Final 30 man Bok squad for the June Tests. Includes 4 new caps.
Well, it could be worse. There are some selections I don't agree with, but De Villiers seems confident with his squad selections.

No Du Preez?

Wow, that's a big turnaround - last year he was one of the top players in the world, now he can't cut the squad?

He's not injured?

Yip, injured. Him, Burger, Fourie, Bosman and I darn well hope vd Merwe as well. If that man beast got dropped for not performing I'd be ticked off. Very little players can push him back.

I like this squad, not too bad at all.

People are allways going to whine about someone not making it, but this really is a good squad in my eyes (injuries aside of course), with the right combinations I think they could be lethal.

Bring on Whales.

I dont see Wales beating this side, i think that if the Springboks have a 'good day' Wales might be in for a whitewash.....

It seems you are underestimating the Welsh here, they didnt win the grand slam for nothing and bet the likes of France and England in the process. France especially a team the Boks struggle to beat.

Anyway onto the squad looks good to me, furious at Steve though for giving me false information about the beast, he's eligible now stoopid :P Really hope they give Bekker a chance in one of the tests, this guy is gonna be the best lock in the world in a couple of years. Even Murray Mexted said so

Sorry, i mean under the circumstances. Wales have injuries to key players, and i think they are tired after a pretty long season. The Boks have just come off the tightest Super14 season ever, and based on current form, a lot of these players are going to shine. I think the Welsh wont be as motivated, coming all the way here after a good season, without key players, to play a Springbok team with as much pace as this... I dont know....

Lol, oi! Don't blame me, blame Rugby World SA. They said he'll be eligible RIGHT before the Tri Nations.
I don't think Jer1cho is under rating Wales too much, as long as they keep Bobo and Conradie on the bench we should be ok

Good squad overall. I definitely have less disagreements with this squad than White's last year, which can only be a good thing.

Ah! Of course... totally forgot about Burger as well...

This squad looks really strong. I'll put it out there now - I wouldn't be surprised if the Boks won the Tri Nations this year.

I think they've got some really good depth in the squad and there have been some really exciting players unearthed this year. Combined with some of their experienced talent coming back from Europe I really do see the Boks as a real threat.

Now that you mention it all 3 teams are gonna have an interesting Tri Nations campaign this year. New talent, new coaches (well not NZ). Judging by the S14 this year, everybody has a good chance.

I agree, it will be very tight. I think the 'Boks have the strongest team though, at this stage I'd have them as favourites.

Yea your right, but the All Blacks are always the team to beat. This could be the closest tri nations ever, all 3 nations have plenty of positives from this years super 14. Could go down to bonus points like in 2004.

Its a bit of a transitional peroid for the AB`s, the Aussies are still weak in the tight and the Boks have just won the world cup. Getting themselves up after such an emotional high will be tough and the appointment of De Villiers is a negative in terms of the long term selection of the team. I`d still slightly favour the Boks as they have experience in all the key positions and they know how to win. Have to agree with other members when they say this could be a tight tri-nations between the big two.

Good point you make there danny, Deans has always had a strong pack to work with at the Crusaders. Will be interesting to see how he works the team. Although the Waratahs pack was impressive this year. The Boks pack looks really strong this year. But we got some unexperienced loose heads, I think that could be a weakness. Such a pity vd Merwe can't help the cause, I hope he'll be in the Tri Nations squad.

One of the Crusaders' strong points is their fitness levels.

While Australia might not have the strongest tight five, hopefully Deans can improve their fitness levels because one thing that cost Australia in the World Cup last year was support play. Their forwards simply weren't getting around the park fast enough.

I think the Waratahs' forwards have already improved this year. Last year they were pretty much playing with nearly the same pack (minus Vicks and Waugh) and they were just hopeless. I believe most of their players had beefed up during the off season and were just completely un-athletic.

Just read that Schalk Brits is still training with the team, even though he was not selected for the final 30 (Dont ask me how that happened...). This is good news, he is a great player, and has superb skills...

Yeah I read about that too, so is Pietersen apparently (allthough on form I think we've got better wingers right now then JP, I'm hoping he can pick his game up)

Yea its ridiculous Brits isnt even the squad, for me he was the standout hooker in the S14. He's definetely better than Smit but of course isnt the captain, as its only summer tests they should have found a compromise.

Gutted about lil Ricky :( Its a joke that Conradie is in, he has just been a bench warmer all year and has shown little when he came on. Kockott or Pienaar would have been much better choices,

Welcome to South African rugby. Color, is worth a lot more than skill and merit. Just ask Wayne Julies.

To be fair, apart from a couple of bench warmers, That was the best possible side we had i reckon... One of the best Springbok teams we have ever had.

Wahey ! :bravo:

I wonder if Div isn't thinking of giving him a run in the Italy test ?

I know he's using the excuse of possible hooker injuries for keeping him there, but I think a test match might be on the cards for old Brtiz. :)
