In a weird about-turn in events, the man who for better or for worse stuck with the slowly sinking ship known as Newcastle Falcons for so long, has been reported to be in talks with Pro D2 side Racing-Metro 92.

The club, known for its titanic local derbies with Stade Francais in the past, has offered Wilkinson an offer he can't refuse (a collossal 1 million Euro a season which dwarfs Dan Carter's £600,000 effortlessly) and with the club backed by yet another multi-millionaire moving to a plush new stadium and coached by maverick Pierre Berbizier it could seem that Wilkinson can spend his days being injured in the suburbs of Paris rather than the glum surroundings of Newcastle.

But he'll get hurt if they let him play Rugby. I have science on my side! The mans bones are made of crackers!

It seems like an odd move for Racing Metro. Signing Wilkinson would be a statement of intent on their part but what's the point in investing so much money in an injury prone 29 year old? He's a wonderful player but is too much of a risk at this stage of his career.

Thomas Lombard (ex-Stade Français, ex-Worcester and ex french international) who's now in charge of the communication for the Racing Metro 92 said that the rumor was wrong, apparently they will avoid flashy silly recruitement Toulon-style. But they're trying to get Chabal.

no way is sicknote worth €250000 more than Carter, sheer lunacy on their part, he'd be mad not to take it though.

why would a guy who:

1) refused to leave a frankly crap club for a better team even when regarded as the best in the world
2) has had his club stick by him throughout 6 years of almost permanent injury
3) has never demonstrated much desire for a high life or had much material ambition

want to go and play for a Pro D2 side?

It's like asking Kaka to go and play for Man City

well considering they're gonna be promoted he'd be playing or more likely be watching the team playing in the Top 14, and also they'd be at the same level as Newcastle in terms of European competition as well.

I can't see Jonny moving, although he'd like to. As Nate says, at the peak of his power he was still with Falcons, who have always have some potential, but never made more than a whimper. Wilko and Falcons is another Johnson and Tigers type thing. Wilko's rep and form has dropped quite a lot from 2003 it had to happen, and although it'd make headlines, it's not really going to work.

Besides, i hear Falcons wanna make a statue of him. Needs crutches though really.
