Overall the review is pretty poorly done................

.......for a guy that played the game for 12 odd hours he really fails to tell his readers the real guts on how the game felt or played.

I mean where does he mention anything about the computer AI??? (I would think that is one of the BIG issues.......) http://www.therugbyforum.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif

What "problems" remain if it is not "problem free"??

Why have this guy review the game??

P.S. My guess is it's Chris Flannery, even though he is not that good looking in real life.

That review definately was not worth the wait. What the hell is the anti tampering deadline? I dont like the sound of the fact that star players can leave your team without negotiations, this could be a game killer. You might work hard to get your favourite players only to have them leave through the back door. I think that the idae of players choosing to go elsewhere is awsome, but you must have some control over it through negotiations.

It means that a player who is coming off contract cannot be approached by any rival club in the NRL until after June 30. This way it gives clubs half the year to hopefully resign all their players.

Just been reading the Q&A with the NZ gamer reviewer, and he said that hes only seen two different try touchdown animations,(after playing like 45 games)and they were both dives. I thought there were lots of different ones to help stop you diving dead all the time like in RL1.

woosaah
29-11-05, 02:29 AM
meh good questoin

i was playing rl1 last night (omg i was bad and nothing was working) and the computer dived over the sideline going for a try that was funny.

i remember when i first got it i thought the graphics were pretty good, looking at it yesterday um.. what was i smoking?

just thought i would share

ah good stuff woosaah. i gave my copy of rl away a few months ago to a friend who is loving it. soon the wait will be over and we shall all have rl 2. graphics defintely look pretty sweet. yeah I thought there were meant to be more animations this time.

Im pretty sure ive seen more than two in the videos ive seen, there was a rolly polly one, and surely on a big run away you can just dot the ball right under the post?

The guy who reviewd it also said it had a 15 minute learning curve!? I got the impression from locksley and that, that it might take a good day or two to get into full swing. Maybe he was on easy?

esoj
29-11-05, 03:55 AM
yeah hard to say reviewer was proabbly on school boy i guess. defintely from locksley review the learning curve is bit steep but well worth it.

kaftka
29-11-05, 04:00 AM
Those 'learning curves' used in reviews are hard to judge as there are usually too many factors to take into consideration.

For example he may not have bothered using many of the features. Sure, he would have tried some of them, but I'm sure that you can still play games without using the advanced passing system.

Also, take FIFA, you can win games just by playing a straight-forward pass, pass, pass, shoot method, or you can get into it and take the time to use the tactics available, and pop lofted through-balls etc.

And, above all else, some people find certain things easier than other people and vice-versa.
I wouldn't bother too much about that part.

They haven't officially announced it yet, but from all accounts it seems one is being done and it will be released in a few months... If that happens, I'd say LIVE would be a given.

presumably the game will come out on x-box maybe a few months later and will be live enabled as the pc and ps2 verions have online play.

serge we all know it is a cut scene but based on that the overall graphics must be pretty good.

Just been reading some more of the Q&A with the reviewer, and he has pointed out a problem that will affect the internationals and origin selection. All the simulated games are simulated at 80 mins, so unless you play full length games your stats will never match up, and players from your team wont make the stats based selections of represenitive teams. I remember this problem with the stats in RL1, but it didnt really affect the game because there was no franchise. I naturally pressumed that this would be fixed, shocker!

I knew something like this would happen

This is a major problem, and cannot believe it hasnt been picked up from Sidhe

Just like the over-the-black-dot - missed kick from RL1

MONKEY TESTERS http://www.therugbyforum.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif

Poor programming, from a poor mob with no capital, which they will use as justification for this error. http://www.therugbyforum.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif

Half the fun is gorne...........If my franchise players cant play rep, then really, whats the point........I aint playing 80mins matches for 60-40 scorelines and 10 line breaks per match

what a shocker http://www.therugbyforum.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif

I never got my hopes up for this........RL1 was poor.......Sidhe proclaimed the AI headhighs were something you can do about - WHICH U CLEARLY CANT - This constant false advice and NO idea of what u can and cant do, just illustrates the amount of flies swarming this pile of ****e

So we get a delay, and they havent made it glitch free

The mods will be kept busy as per usual on this league franchise.

The main thing is we questioned these potential flaws and gaps in the system...yet they havent really adressed it, or given anough attention, and now guess what - FAILURE.....failure in the rugby genre - success in the sales, success in the under 12 minds - hence i smell EA antics all over the joint

I ALWAYS WANTED MY CONTROLLER MORE ANYWAYS!!!

This is what the reviewer said.......

2. I do understand and you're correct! It's quite hard to have a score 24-22 when you're playing 10min games, the most I won by was 12-0. This is a little annoying for Rep selection, the one thing I'd suggest is playing 20min games to get the high stats that the CPU teams are getting. Case in point would be my season with the Warriors I'm 4th and have a pionts dif of +12, whilst the Roosters are coming 1st (4 points ahead on the ladder), and they have a points dif of +126.

He is playing 5 minute halves (hence his best score of only 12-0!!!) - play on 10 minute halves and all will be fine..........

yeah ak mate calm down it sounds like the reviewer is playing 10 min games total length. play 10 min halves and your stats will be fine. the game is not ruined.

with regards to bugs in rl 1 they actually knew about a lot of them but had to ship the game with them due to the deadline. they did fix some with a patch that they released.

IMO - the reviewer is a spastic aswell

I reckon 10 mins games - i'd get more than 12-0 scorelines.........not that I am boasting, but i remain confident even 5 min halves will be a good challenge to get guys on the rep side

Also i remember Mario sayin, only a maximum amount of players can be 'summons to represent' (hello PES) from the same team...thus perhaps 3-4 is the max anyways

Heck Ronny got SHIF picked in the QLD side and not HUNT.....why is this....I'LL TELL YA WHY..............LOCKY, CARROL (TBA), PETRO, TATE, HODGES and even other broncos got picked...thus the programming needed someone from another team, and HUNT couldnt make it as the broncos would be pilfered and turned into the BABY PONIES (or whatever they call themselves around may/june).

All sounds good to me

More Raiders in rep sides, the more authentic/simulated the game really is IMO http://www.therugbyforum.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif

30-11-05, 02:50 AM
I'd suggest it would be crap to play only 5 minute halves - takes the player fatigue factor out of the game, and probably the reason the reviewer was getting some really low scoring games/wins..............

30-11-05, 02:52 AM
yeah you maybe onto something there ak with the amount of players from one team that can be in a rep team. because don't you only get a squad of 25 in franchise mode so if you had over 4 out due to rep selection could be cutting it close playerwise.

Yeah Esoj - Mario DID say only a maximum 'X' amount of players from 1 club team can represent.........due to the roster count during the split rounds of the SOO

I remember asking if I was dominating the comp with the raiders, that all raiders would be picked for rep

He shut me down with that explanation...........perfectly accpetable, and makes total sense.

Sorry for causing a bit of panic, I knew all along that playing 10 minute halves would be fine, i still think its pretty bad for those who want to play different length games. I played ten minute halves when I first got RL1, but once I started playing on league god mode it was immpossible to hold a lead with 10 minute halves, so I shortened and it was awsome.

128MB RAM
32MB 3D DirectX 8.1a compatible accelerated video card
16 Bit DirectX 8.1a compatible Sound Card
850MB of Hard Drive Space
Windows 98SE, 2000*, ME, XP*

PC Recommended Requirements:

P4 1.3GHz

64MB 3D DirectX 8.1a compatible Texture & Lighting video card
16 Bit DirectX 8.1a compatible Sound Card
850MB of Hard Drive Space
Windows 98SE, 2000*, ME, XP*
24x CDROM drive

*With latest service pack

Alan said though that it wat not very accurate

also found this post from mario
The final minimum specs for PC are around the same as for RL1, but for good results you should have a 1GHz+ processor, 512MB+ of RAM, and a 64MB graphics card.

Basically the faster and better the specs of the machine the better the results will be.

Have asked the reviewer a few questions on his site.........

He reckons he has seen NO bugs at all as yet (and he has pretty much completed a full season in franchise mode).

This has to be excellent news. In RL1 you could play one game and find plenty of major bugs that affected the gameplay (kickoff hotspot, easy scrum tries, blackdot "no goal", players not picking up a loose ball, endless headhighs, dodgy forward passes etc etc).

Maybe that extra month SIDHE took to "clean up" problem issues was well worthwhile after all.....??

Though I thought the review was poorly done, the questions the reviewer has since answered has put my mind at ease somewhat - really looking forward to the 8th now.

christmas eh? who would have thought....

and rugby challenge in february next year...delayed again.......

who would have thought..

There was a guy who claimed that.....and was rubbished and booted for abuse of Mario and Trev...what I was saying? that Mario was lying and the game would come out in december.....mmmmmmmm

Same guy thought the ABs would win the TN, the Lions series 3-0 and then nail the grand slam with ease and sweep all awards and be known as one of the greatest teams of all time.....

Poor guy....seems that never eventuated either.

You mods should be embarrassed and ashamed...and that is my opinion (one I think has merit).

My hunches have often proven well-founded, but I got no benefit of the doubt on the delays...just jargon and the eradication of freedom of speech. You can;'t censor someone becos you don't agree with them....often, revolutionary or insightful comment is made by the minority and a shift occurs. Again, the proof is in the pudding.

Mods - you were WRONG.

there.....waited six weeks + to remind you of what you already know and will never admit. Feels pretty sweet.

Poor Ak.....you must have been dying with the sheer predictability of their actions..I feel for you.

Oh and my game is pre-ordered Mario and arriving on the 8th..I just can;t wait to play it and enjoy it and benefit from your hard work. I pre-ordered it in the last week.....I NEVER fell for ONE of your false release dates....I was just playing mario.

that is a cool idea. that way all impressions can be in the one thread and not spread across lots of threads.

Los Lover - nice to see you back. there were rumours rc2006 could be delayed until next year and maybe not at all. it is nott swordfish"s decision when it releases so I think trev and the rest of the guys should be cut some slack as it's up to ubisoft when it releases.

rl 2 yes has been delayed but who cares it comes in just a few days now.

Well I wasnt going to do it but.......seeeing you came back to relish the boasting wave of future insight..........my turn http://www.therugbyforum.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif

There should be a name in the credits, and that name will be of:

Miles Balman

My best mate since 1998, my flat mate since 1999, formerly worked with NRL stats, at the time Sidhe/HES were outsourcing their info for RL2.

If his name isnt in the credits then NRL stats had his name removed before the submittance to Sidhe/HES (whomever they dealt with).

He cant wait to see if his name pops up in the credits.......
Being a Cronulla fan, there's a small possibility they may be a little exagerrated.
He did confirm pending no changes were made since he left NRL stats that the Tigers werent going to be very good in the game.

My copy arrives tomorrow....

No God complex....just don't think it was fair...harsh sure...but untrue?

haha! Luke McAllister...got me on that one..and I am sure there are PLENTY of other errors I have made too. I have made 1400 posts after all.

Anyway, I'm sorry you guys don't think I have a point on being right in my ire over them bending me AND YOU all over the christmas couch while the corporates raked in the presales made investments and pretty much ended up making reverse influx profits of god knows what from it all.....and sorry you are not brainy enough to see through their facade like I was.

yes I was rude...and for anything I said that was not ture, I sincerely apologise.

I'm sorry you are still hasseling me on the god thing etc...it has been over a month and I have had time to think abvout a few things.....including the things I DID and did not get wrong....

Give me the benefit of the doubt eh? I was, ironically, always on your sides. You just couldn't see the trees for the wood (purposely reversed).

I wish I was technically savvy enough to rehash posts where I made some quite sensational predictions (IMO) and also some very true comments regarding the games releases and BLATANT lying (as I knew what was really going on).

So what that the game is out tomorrow and in my ps2....so what if it is awesome! None of that is really relevcant to what I was saying and just shows that you all are happy to tolerate intentionally misleading requests for orders by certain dates etc...even to the point of taking down the harshest opposition to that.

It's like friggin 1984 in here (the book/film NOT the year).....Imagine when the yanks finally leave Iraq..are you all going to say "Oh it's cool...they are OUT now...so...HEY cool! It's like, like they were never there dude".

that is 1st class baloney....

That the right thing finally occurs does not mean the wrong beforehand never happened.

Sorry to draw a political analogy....but that is just such a glaringly obvious way to put it.

I have changed as much as I have needed to....and NO MORE.

You will come to see that if you don't exhibit the same trigger-happy abuse that you are simultaneously accusing me of.

think about it....

The problem was that your abuse (for want of a better description) was directed at the wrong person/organization.

Both Sidhe (and swordfish for that matter) did all they could to get the game out as soon as possible, and in the best possible shape (ie relatively bug free) - once that was complete it is the next link in the chain (HES etc) that have "held back" on releasing the games earlier.........

Look at Swordfish/Trevor now - sitting around wondering why their completely finished game hasn't been released yet, and maybe staring at the possibility of it being released in direct competition wiith rugby 2006.

Hi http://www.therugbyforum.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif, by the way....

read: lied.

It is as simple as that....they were originally withholding the truth, which was bad enough....but then once ak, myself and others pointed out the wafer-thin and, frankly, transparent dealings that were going on......that is when out and out lying began.

I am not answerable to my contempt at that kind of rubbish.

Only my behaviour in terms of swearing and threats (I WAS very angry and Mario trying to brush me off and tell me and ak we "were wrong" etc...it was bolliocks and insulting to our intelligence) I deserved to be sanctioned.

Did it ever occur to you that sometimes, sometimes, there isn't a conspiracy behind a relatively simple piece of information?
On the Mario front, he provided a service, he didn't have to be here, and because of you (there may have been a few other reasons, but no doubt you were the problem) and your wild accusations of him purposely holding back the release and being a downright meanie, we ALL lost the privilege.

On the Trev front, kudos for providing me with the biggest laugh of the yearL

Cheers for that.
And also, as for stating that Trev held back the release of his game until near Rugby 06's release. Why? Why in the name of f*** would he do that? Some sick twisted little mind game? Of course, that's what game developers do. They have full control over the release date of their games and have their publishers on a leash, playing awesome tricks on them and the consumers like delaying a game until competition arrives.... Or, and here's a conspiracy theory for you, you are the one who is delaying the release. Maybe this could be your attempt to "single-handedly halve his sales"...

Stupid move Los Lover.

just started playing RL2 again after giving it a break, i actually really like it. The tackles feel right, i'm starting to get on top of the kicking game and the atmosphere is great. Especially if your playing at home and make big line break and you can hear the crowd going wild as you near the tryline.
couple of problems though;
1- how come you cant sign aussie players to your superleague franchise and vice versa.
2- theres no golden point in the superleague but there is in the game

Oh, and nicework frontline on beating everyone to it...
is anyone else sick of watching a injured player grabbing there knee and rolling around in agony? it seems like in every game you can get injured in it happens
even when u get high tackled around the neck when he gets hurt from it he grabs his ankle.thats strange
coz when you get tackled high ur legs go numb and therefore must grab and wriggle it to let everyone know u have back problems....

geez evryone knows that  [/b]
well i didnt thats why i asked

I actually started playing it again recently and have been surprisingly enjoying it also, but I really do think the motion engine needs to be completely scrapped, because players just take so long to change direction it's ridiculous! Also I think the passing, while it has the right idea, needs to be tightened a fair bit and the offload system needs to be completely redone so that you can only offload a short distanc (seriously some "offloads" in RL2 travel 15 metres) and onlyin tackles where your arms are free.

There's lots of other stuff I'd love to see happen, but these problems are the main ones in my opinion.

rugby league 3 if they do it needs a hell of a lot of improvements on player AI.

rugby league 3 needs to not be released. for leagues sake.
