Gonzalo Tiesi - Pumas 13 permanently since 2007. Currently injured but was getting plenty of game time for Stade Français. On form he has been okay but not overly good this season. He needs to finish the season on a high but is still on the sidelines.

Marcelo Bosch - having a good season at 13 for Biarritz. Naturally a flyhalf but Argentina have options there without him and for the World Cup will go for Hernández, Contepomi and Santiago Fernández. Before injuring himself basly last season, Bosch as playing 15 for Biarritz and before badly injuring himself badly the previous season he was playing 12. While in his first season he was playing 10.

Both Bosch and Tiesi will make Argentina´s New Zealand 2011 squad. Other Argentina centres in Europe look unlikely to make the cut. I can´t see Miguel Avramovic (Agen) or Federico Aramburu (Glasgow) being picked. Maybe Horacio San Martín (Aironi) could make it but other than that I think its going to be just Tiesi and Bosch for 13. Bosch will be picked to cover 12, 13 and 15 with Martín Rodriguez starting at 15 and Contepomi 12. 13 though looks like it could go either way as Bosch is on fine form for Biarritz.

Who should start at 13?

I think they're very weel covered in the centers, but none of them is really playing fly-half this year, except for Cintepomi and I don't think he has played a full game for a few years now. Bosch, Fernandez, Martinez Gurruchaga and Bustos Moyano (who were al playing 10 when they were in Argentina) have all been playinf center or FB. And Hernandez has been far too inconsistent to be trusted in a world cup. I think Contepomi will be the first choice with Fernandez to cover. Anyway, a backline of:
Vergallo
Some other SH (probably Figuerola or Lalanne?)
Contepomi
Fernandez
Bosch
Hernandez
Aramburu
Martinez Gurruchaga
Bustos Moyano
Agulla
Tiesi
Camacho
Gonzalez Amorosino

plus some other young guys playing in Argentina, as Belisario Agulla (as Horacio Agulla was for WC 2007) can give enough choice for the outside backs. As I said, the half-back pairing xwill the most troublesome.

Anwering your question, Tiesi or Bosch? Bosch all the way. He's a top player IMO.

Marcello Bosch had a great game last week against Brive and has been a consistent performer since his return from injury. I would have to support him although not as a 10, where he has only played once or twice for us despite our lack of class in that position.........wish he would not try and do everything though, he does have some good players alongside!!

Merci!

I have to agree that Bosch should be looked at seriously for the Pumas 13 shirt vs England at the RWC and also that he needs to link better with his team mates rather than try to do it all himself. He´ll be in the 22 for sure. If Hernández is fit then things could get interesting.

There is still a little time to go but right now my World Cup Pumas backs, for the match day 22, are as follows:

9 Vergallo (Toulouse)
10 Fernández (Montpellier)*
11 Camacho (Harlequins)
12 Contepomi (Toulon)
13 Bosch (Biarritz)
14 Agulla (Leicester)
15 Rodriguez (Stade Français)

20 Figuerola (Brive)
21 Tiesi (Stade Français)
22 Amorosino (Leicester)

* Juan Martín Hernández starts if fit.

In no way whatsoeer would I put Contepomi at 10. He is a clear 12 and better served linking like his try making pass today for Toulon vs Perpignan.

Marcelo Bosch is pants,

he does have an occasional spark of brilliance, but most of the time is unreliable and has poor handling skills

Tiesi is far more reliable and a better defender, but is more limited in attack

they are both natural inside centres in my opinion

but Bosch had his chance to play against Ireland in November and was plain awful and ruined several attacks, dreadful performance from the entire Pumas backline that day (apart from LGA)

the Pumas could do with a natural 13 like Gaitan was, I don't think playing two 12's really works, but then there are none currently

I would consider Rodríguez at 13, with Bustos Moyano at 15 in a warm up game perhaps

Juan Ignacio Gauthier was also tried there against the French Barbarians but I'm not sure he's good enough to make the squad to be honest

Gauthier was very good for Hindu a few years ago, though I think he was playing FB.

Th problem of the Arg backline is a lack of size. I would have taken Avramovic at 13, but well...

And I disagree with you about Bosch, Duck, I really like how he plays.

Tiesi has played 13 his entire life. SF used him for some games at 12 but his position is certainly 13. he has missed out on a lot of chances through injury. He was to start in all the World Cup matches in 2007 but was injured and so only got to start vs Georgia and Namibia.

Bosch this week spoke to the Buenos Aires press about thast game. He can´t believe how bad the team played. Bosch was rubbish and admits it. Lets not judge him on the one game. For Biarritz he was one of the best backs this past season.

Argentina had a number of players there who will miss the RWC.

the Pumas could do with a natural 13 like Gaitan was, I don't think playing two 12's really works, but then there are none currently

I was a Blackie, i.e. Gaitan fan, he scored great tries in RWC 2003, esp vs Romania, but he was never considered as a first choice 13 because of his defense. Tiesi is just as good on attack.

I would consider Rodríguez at 13, with Bustos Moyano at 15 in a warm up game perhaps

I read that Rodríguez is in line to play 10 if Juan Martín Hernández misses out. This would make it as follows:

15 Agulla, 14 Camacho, 13 Tiesi, 12 Contepomi (C), 11 Bustos Moyano, 10 Rodríguez, 9 Figuerola.

Bustos Moyano is a fullback in the making. The three for the 15 shirt for NZ 2011 are Rodríguez, Agulla and González Amorosino.

Juan Ignacio Gauthier was also tried there against the French Barbarians but I'm not sure he's good enough to make the squad to be honest

He is rubbish. Couldn´t make the Hindu side right now, seriously!

Gauthier is not a great player and will never feature for Argentina again. his only appearances were in South American matches which took place when the professioanls were unavaliable. He is a fullback but can play 13. He played in the pro d2 last season for Colomiers and in Italy before that.

No way would I ever want Avramovic in the Pumas 13 shirt, never again. He is a tackler and thats it. He has had chances and never been able to impress. He´s way down the list for 12 and 13 and will never play for Argentina again.

But his style is more suited to inside centre, he's not creative enough for outside centre and whilst Argentina don't have many other options at 13 he'll do, but if the Pumas ever find a young up and coming attacking 13 he should be fast tracked into the side

Fair enough not judge him one match and to be fair he wasn't the only player to play dreadfully that match, but I think Tiesi is far more reliable than Bosch despite Bosch being more creative, Bosch sometimes just has days where he just blows up, and Argentina can afford one of those to be against Scotland/England/Georgia or in a quarter final

He was going to be the RWC 2007 13 (not Tiesi as you said before), but pulled out after a heart problem and subsequently retired, the Pumas could do with a player like him now, attacking backs is their problem

I read that Rodríguez is in line to play 10 if Juan Martín Hernández misses out. This would make it as follows:

I don't think that's a bad idea actually, my problem with Rodríguez at 10 though is that I think the Argentine management should have tried him there against the French Barbarians or at least once in the past year. However I wish Rodríguez would drop his stupid drop goal obsession, Stade Français last season wasted so much attacking ball with Beauxis/Rodríguez going for 50 metre drop goals at the hope that one in twenty will go over and they'll get seen on Youtube

As for Bustos Moyano, I like him, he reminds me a lot of Chris Paterson, I think he would be a good full back for sure, I hope Montpellier convert him to full back and LGA to wing, but Benjamin Thiéry will probably keep one of them out of the side anyway

I would be with Bosch, just because I'm a Biarritz whore.
