Last week-end was played the T14 first round:

Albi v Bayonne 24-12
Montauban v Narbonne 41-20

The Paris team although ridiculous in their new pink jerzey was quite impressive.

I watched it on Canal+ they were good in the first half, dutring the second half when they played against the wind, Biarritz controlled the game more effictively. Their forwards dominated their Clermont counterparts.

Good on Albi and Montauban getting off to strong starts, also for hiring Canadian Internationals. :P

The Canadian international players I've seen this last week-end are Mike James (with a funny moustache) and Cudmore who has been cited by Biarritz. He intentionaly hits Betsen in the face with his elbow in a ruck.

I saw Toulouse and Biarritz on Sunday. When did Biarritz get so bad? They're seriously in danger of falling out of title contention already.

They started training later than the other big guns, they should peak later. Last season they were a bit in trouble when the season started too. Otherwise if they follow playing like last sunday teams like Clermont, Perpignan or Bourgoin should be above them in the league table in addition of course to Paris and Toulouse and then they would not qualify for the SF.

Well this is the Paris team only which have they unusual jerzeys. This is a way to create buzz and interest. They are quite successful actualy both outside the pitch and inside, they are leading the league at that point in time.

Next saturday there will be the clash of the Stades in Toulouse, it should be great Rugby.

naaaah it's only the jersey but you'll notice their strengh in eurocup when they'll have eliminated a few english team like northampton :) ... if you reach the finals !!!
i know they look like gays with their pink jersey ... but its only an appearance !!! they have a monstruous bench this year.
as donbilly says, its only to be noticed that they have such a colour. so don't be so worry about us, we still have 3 teams able to win the euro cup

Sorry...I have to say, I bought a Stade Francais Pink shirt last year, and If I can get my hands on one of these new ones I will.

I&#39;m in the states and only see the Top 14 teams when they play in the H-cup. Are there any means by internet to see these matches?

I have to get one of these shirts.

You can get access to some of the Top14 matches on www.*REMOVED*.com if you manage to be registered.

In the US if you get access to the TV5 (French TV channel) channel you can watch the "Jour de Rugby" which provides a good summary.

On the Internet you can watch on http://player.sports.orange.fr/7/203.phtml the tries of the week-end.

There&#39;s also http://rugby.france2.fr/rencontres-a-15/ where you can watch Top14 but also ProD2 and some Amateur Rugby.

By the way the new shirt of the Stade Français with the Lys flowers will be on sold in two weeks.

By the way the new shirt of the Stade Français with the Lys flowers will be on sold in two weeks.

i just saisd that to make you react ... it seems that it worked :D

True, England do wear their rose with pride.

I am so disapointed that I haven&#39;t been able to see Stade Francais play this season with them doing so brilliantly. Hopefully we will get full Heiniken Cup coverage this season and I can see them play once or twice there.

anyway i&#39;ll continue in english for our friends ... the main strengh of stade francais is their bench ... they have 30 players of rather the same level wich gives them the ability of resting a lot of players. when they had to play one game every 3 days last week, they&#39;ve changed 14 out of 15 players between the 1st and the 2nd match ... and they won !!! hum avoiding a guy like beauxis (see him form now) and still be competitiv is impressiv (i know skrela is not a ****).

First defeat for the stade français vs Montauban, a team which come from the proD2.
A lack of cohesion or humility DonBilly ? Landreau was afraid about that sort of risk against a strong pack with cohesion.
The ranking is very tight behind the stade français, strange season !

Squalito, I have not watched the Montauban - Stade Français game yet, I&#39;ve recorded it so I&#39;ll watch it this week. Anyway from what I&#39;ve seen on Jour de Rugby Montauban clearly diserved their victory. Their pack is impressive. That&#39;s a shame anyway that there was no try during this game. I don&#39;t know if there was a lack of humility but there was apparently a lack of discipline on the parisian side and this costed them this match. They&#39;re the kind of team which can win although they are dominated, for example if Saubade doesn&#39;t knock on and with better discipline they can return to Paris with 4 points although they don&#39;t diserve the victory.

Something that didn&#39;t help them was the Azurris with their national side and the Pumas training earlier this week in Switzerland.

Anyway I think it&#39;s better that they loose now, the big match versus Biarritz in the Stade de France is next week and the H-cup the following one. This will in the end help them to concentrate and get some humility in case they&#39;ve lost it.

Otherwise, congratulations to the ASM. The game versus Bourgoin after that of last weekend versus Toulouse were superb. The ASM look like having eventually get some momentum and should be among the four SFinalists if they follow this way. I hope so, I&#39;ve always appreciated this team although these last seasons were not really successful.

Top14 is very contested this year, that&#39;s nice, the rest of the season should be very interesting.

montauban are quite impressiv this season, they won against big teams of the top 14... they are the soilsport of this begining of season.

for ASM its a bit different, they were supposed to be one of the favourites few seasons ago and they got very bad for 2-3 years but they came back where they were supposed to be.

i&#39;m surprised by perpignan who are doing a huge pile of crap ...

Squalito
10-10-06, 07:37 PM
ASM went bad since the Tim Lane departure five years ago. Too many players&#39; changes, and I don&#39;t speak about the staff modifications every years... Now JM Lhermet want to build a stable foundation, young players which have won the junior competition three years ago and the B team championships last year are not so bad. Experience and youth, the end of the star wars, wait and see.
It seems that we have found THE coach which was missing to this team. I don&#39;t think that we will be able to be in the four finalists, but who knows...
The best thing for us would be that the Blacks made a big RWC B)

For Perpignan it seems that since O.Saisset they have lost something...

Montauban frighten me, they will come to the bibpark with a homogeneous team, whereas we shall have a big lack of international players...

This Biarritz is less impressive than the one who win last year, in front of the SF I think it will be very difficult for them at the "stade de France" after the the parisians&#39;s defeat at Montauban last week...

I agree with you that the BO is less impressive than last year, however I think they will try to make a "coup" at the Stade de France prior to start their European campaign. Paris will do their best to win and Biarritz, I think, will show that they are the reigning campions. This is going to be a cracker ... I will be there by the way.

I&#39;m agree with you Titus regarding the SF&#39;s bench, but who has the same in france ?
Montauban iss very homogeneous, a team of warriors with Raynaud a great captain. Lots of turn over in the team since the beginning of the season, and no big behavior diference.

I&#39;ll go to the bibpark this week, I can&#39;t miss the famous derby "jaunard vs coujoux" !

I&#39;ll go to SF - BO with a Canadian and an Australian friends. This will be the first time for them that they go to the Stade de France. This can be a cracker. I think that the BO needs a victory if they want to remain in the top 4 of the league table and this would also be good for the own confidence, especially before starting their European campaign. This season they have clearly indicated that the H-cup title will be priority 1.

Stade Français have not loast at home since 2004 and they want to keep their record alife. They will do their best to win although as you&#39;ll see in the following they start to have problems with the injuries.

I don&#39;t know how big will be score but I expect a very contested match.

SF team:

L’équipe : 15. Hernandez – 14. Saubade, 13. Glas, 12. Liebenberg (ou Messina), 11. Dominici – 10. Skrela, 9. Fillol – 8. Sowerby, 7. Du Plooy, 6. Kayser – 5. Marchois, 4. Auradou (cap.) – 3. De Villiers, 2. Szarzewski, 1. Marconnet (ou Roncero)
Remplaçants : 16. Blin, 17. Roncero (ou Montes), 18. James, 19. Samo, 20. Corleto, 21. Albouy, 22. Beauxis
[/b]
Many back row players are injured, so they end up with a hooker as N°8 and an lock as a flanker. The front row is simply France front row.

BO team will be:

1. Lealamanua, 2. Noirot, 3. Wessels, 4. Thion, 5. Carizza, 6. Betsen, 7. Hall, 8. Harinordoquy, 9. Dupuy, 10. Traille, 11. Bobo, 12. Bidabé, 13. Cabannes, 14. Gobelet, 15. Dambielle, 16. Denoyelle, 17. Avril, 18. Couzinet, 19. Dridi, 20. Yachvili, 21. Peyrelongue, 22. Marlu.

So Damien Traiille as FH. This could be a goog training for him for the November tests if Laporte wants to test

The point for the France side is that there are three very good centres, Jauzion, Fritz and Traille, Marty of Perpignan is also very good. I hope that Baby will be back at the level he had prior to his injury and thus they would be 5 to postulate for the blue jerzey.

Anyway, regarding Ellisalde, he is with the Stade Toulousain, not the Biarritz Olympique. In the Stade Toulousain they have Dubois, Michalak and more recently Jauzion as you know. Baby again used to be a FH. Toulouse have actually many options although it depends on the number of injured players. By the way, have you heard that Michalak is likely to come back to competition by the end of October only? I don&#39;t think he will be able to play the Test Matchs of November if he&#39;s short of competition.

i know elissalde is in toulouse :wall: but i was wondering wether he could play as fly half or not (i know he&#39;s scrum half) but for france ? &#39;cause we have a lack of international level fly halves...

yesterday&#39;s match, jauzion played as fly half for toulouse and he got quite competitive at that position; a possible solution of substitution for laporte for france&#39;s autumn tests.
more widely think a few teams of the top 14 really started their season with the H cup matches ... we could think of toulouse with a come back to their creativ game with quite a lot of rythm, biarritz and perpignan, who had quite a difficult start the league.

This week-end, the USAP will host Paris this should be the match of the week-end. Perpignan are apparently doing better with the two first rounds of the H-cup, will they be able to level up versus the Stade Français, I think so. I think they will be very difficult to beat at home. This should be a big fight between the two packs. I don&#39;t know who&#39;s going to play for the Stade Français but I would not be surprised that this match had a impact on the French selection for the AIs. There can be injuries among the front rowers.

Just finished watching the highlights of Top14 and boy you can see why Albi were unbeaten at home.
They played ugly, but tehy played hard.
However, as far as the highlights showed, it really was the wingers day. Rougerie showed his speed and huge strength, but who was the other winger? He was running riots also.

They only showed very brief clips of Castres V Montauban, but clearly they felt the only bits worth showing were the fights and the endless amount of times the referee seemed to pull a card from his pocket :)
I definately saw one red card for a headbutt, and at least 2 yellows - sounds like a tough game.

This week-end the Top14 resumes. Sport is France stop for a week or two for christmas and new year&#39;s day. We&#39;re all too busy eating and drinking to dedicate time to sport.

This week-end the number three (Perpignan) plays number 4 (Toulouse) and number 5 (Biarritz) play number 6 (Bourgoin). The ranking can change at the top of the league table. Paris goes to Bayonne who are ranked last but have progressed a lot these last rounds.

Otherwise Toulouse start celebrating their 100th birthday of the fundation of the Stade Toulousain club. Rugby started sooner in the Pink city and actually the Stade Toulousain is the merging of two clubs based in Toulouse.

At this occasion a new jerzey was released and it is light pink, pink being the traditional colour associated to Toulouse due to the roofs and briks typically used their for the buildings.

Well Perpignan pack is very strong and could lead to Perpignan with more ball possession. However Toulouse are very motivated and having been eliminated in the H-cup they will focus all their energy in winning the French title they didn&#39;t win since 2001.

<div align="center">http://www.stade.fr/dbimages/Image/inside_actualite/popup/070127_aff_sf-toul_b.jpg</div>

All the tickets were sold two months ago. Toulouse come to win and Paris want to keep the lead of the championship. Max Guazini has organised as usual pre and post match shows but the real point of this evening of Rugby will be the match itself. It will be broadcasted in prime time on TV. It should be accessible abroad on TV5 the French channel.

Another clash this weekend will be Perpignan versus Bourgoin, strong forwards, scrum very contested. For Perpignan a victory would make the SF qulification easier but for Bourgoin it would be almost the end for their hopes to finish within the four first positions which open the SF.

Yeah it&#39;s live on TV5 and Setanta, the last big game at the Stade de France was only on one of the extra Setanta channels that you have to pay for, this time it&#39;s free.

This is going to be tough for both teams. Toulouse lost the first phase match at home. They have not won in Paris versus Paris for decades. They want to change that.

Donnie, what&#39;s the word on Andrew Walker? My man tells me he wants out of his contract and is in talks with the Reds for the coming season. How&#39;s he been playing over there?

He plays for a ProD2, Gaillac, and we don&#39;t hear too much from him. I guess that&#39;s a good thing fot him, to be anonymous again.

Was a great game alright, Paris certainly got the rub of the green on some of M. Jutge&#39;s calls though. If Toulouse had played like that in Europe they&#39;d still be in the competition. Good to see Baby on the comeback as well.

This was a great game for sure. Toulouse are coming back and they could have won, I think they&#39;ll win the Brennus shield this season. They will defeat Paris.

Anyway I think this was an excellent match for the players that will play next week-end for their nation. Many French players of course but also some Italian such as the Bergamasco brothers and Perugini.

Hello everybody, This is my first post.

I agree with you, it was a great game, Paris was very lucky, Toulouse was the best on this match. I think, they are now favourite to the “Bouclier”, Biarritz is slowing down, and Paris too. But after the Six nations, all can change.

Some pics of Stade de France ( 79 604 spectators :bravo: ), with Michel Delpech in guest star. And I thank Mr. Guazzini for this show.

Baby can play 10 and I think this is his main position in the U21 teams he was in. Next season he&#39;ll play for Clermont, I guess he&#39;ll replace with a different style Tony Marsh who will stop his career at the end of this season.

The French Rugby fans will all be captivated by the matchs of the next two weekends. One could think that this is due to the test matchs versus the mighty All Blacks but not at all, actually most of these Rugby fans won&#39;t care about these test matchs. All their attenbtion will be on the Top14 Semi-finals and the Final one week later in Paris.

The first semi-final will be played on Friday evening in Bordeaux; Stade Français will face Biarritz Olympique. These two clubs have won the last five Brennus shields.

The second semi-final will be played in Marseille on Saturday late afternoon; Stade Toulousain will face the ASM Clermont. These two teams are the in-form teams and play a very attractive Rugby.

When not speaking about these final stages of the Top14 most of the French Rugby fans discuss about the relegation to ProD2 of two monuments of the French club Rugby i.e. Narbonne (which have just celebrated their 100th anniversary) and Agen (which will celebrate their 100th anniversary next year). These two team had always played in the elite division. ProD2 is becoming stronger and stronger, the average club budget has increased a lot. Clubs like Toulon, Paris (Racing Métro) or Lyon have budgets close to 10 Million € (approximately 6.5 Million £).

Once the Top14 winner has received the Brennus shield then the French fans will start thinking about the RWC and may then realize there have been two tests played versus New-Zealand.

France is going to play in NZ with a 3rd-4th level experimental team and none seems really intersted in it in: the 2 games are going to be played in the early morning on a tour the FFR didn&#39;t want to play (and tried to cancel)

summer TM in the year of the RWC are absolutely stupid

Top14 semifinals are absolutely exciting

Biarritz didn&#39;t play a too good season but now they&#39;re in and dangerous as usual, Stade Français is affected by many injuries so, even if they ruled the league all year long, now they are not so sure to get to the final

but the real crunch is the 2nd semifinal: Toulouse is in great form and so is Clermont, some weeks ago the two teams played an outstding spectacular game and the match in Marseille promises to be a wonderful one (me, I&#39;ll be personally at the Velodrome: I have one more ticket I don&#39;t need, @DonBilly if you know someone who&#39;s interested just tell me)

the Top14 semifinals will be broadcasted live all over Europe by TV5 Europe fta, in UK and Ireland by Setanta, in France by Canal+

The two games were thrilling, Stade Français managed to defeat Biarritz Olympique and ASM Clermont won versus Stade Toulousain. All the Rugby fans are discussing about last week-end and excited about next week-end when the grand final is played (I&#39;ll be there).

The attendance of the Top14 increased of 8% this season compared to previous season. In ProD2 it increased of 46%!!

ProD2 is becoming more and more important. Clubs from Paris, Lyon, Toulon, Grenoble, Agen, Béziers, Narbonne will play the ProD2 championship. More and more of the ProD2 matchs are broadcasted on free to the air regional TV channels. Canal+ will start broacasting some of ProD2 nationaly next season.

Rugby: French eyes on Paris, not Wellington

The France-All Blacks test here tomorrow night will be little more than an entree for the majority of French rugby supporters this weekend.

The marathon French club season reaches its climax when Stade Francais play Clermont in the Top 14 final at a sold-out Stade de France in Paris on Sunday morning (NZ time).

French sports newspapers and websites this week have devoted more prominence to the final than the second test at Westpac Stadium, which will feature a French national team severely weakened by players who were forced to make club duty their priority.

There is a New Zealand interest in the final, with Clermont coached by Vern Cotter, the former Bay of Plenty mentor and assistant to Robbie Deans at the Crusaders.

In his side is New Zealand centre Tony Marsh, who will be playing his last game for the club he joined in 1998 before retiring.

Clermont are sentimental favourites because they have lost all seven previous appearances in the final.

An indication of the length of the French season is that Clermont&#39;s Australian first five-eighth Brock James has amassed 350 points this year.

The traditionally-strong Stade Francais have grown into arguably the world&#39;s richest club.

They hosted the All Blacks at a Paris training run last November, memorably presenting each of the tourists with a pink jersey

I don&#39;t pay that much for Canal+ le bouquet with the TNT, it&#39;s less than 20€ and I have Canal+ and Canal+ Sport. I&#39;d like to get Sport+ to be able to watch the Super League, anyway I found an alternative.

I think in UK and Ireland, the domestic competitions, i.e. GP and the ML are either on Sky (Private) or Setanta (Private). In Wales they have STC too which free over the air and which may show some ML I don&#39;t know.

In the SH I think that in NZ the NPC and Super14 are on the Rugby Channel which belongs to Sky. In Australia I think it is also in a Private Channel. In SA I don&#39;t know. In Argentina Rugby is on ESPN which is private too.

So as you can see in most of the Rugby countries the club/province Rugby is brodcasted by private TV channels which require specific subscription.
