Here&#39;s all the features so far:

http://www.rugbyleague2.com/images/features_main.gif

and here are some extra things answered in the FAQ:

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
Can players jump in Rugby League 2?

Yes, they can jump to take a high ball.

How have cut scene graphics improved for Rugby League 2?

Cut scenes have been greatly improved with the addition of more interesting screen transitions, better camera framing, lifelike animation, player interaction, and facial animation.

What commentators will feature in Rugby League 2?

Andrew Voss will be the only commentator featured in the game.

Will the commentary be the same as the first version of the game?

No, all commentary has been completely re-recorded from a new script. Some classic comments from the old game still appear, but there are plenty of new comments to hear as well as much more commentary overall.

If I create a player with a certain surname, will the commentator refer to that player by name?

Yes, the commentator will refer to that player by name if that specific surname has been recorded. There are around 900 recorded surnames in the commentary, so most popular names as well as a few more obscure names and past greats have been covered.

What camera angles will be available in Rugby League 2?

All the original cameras in Rugby League will once again be available in Rugby League 2. In addition to the original camera, there are new camera options including one that is much closer to the ingame action.

How do the passing controls work in Rugby League 2?

The gamer has the option of tapping the pass buttons to pass to the players to the right or left of the ball carrier. Optionally, the gamer can hold down a pass button which will bring up buttons icons over the heads of various players along the attacking line. Pressing the relevant button will pass to that specific player.

The gamer can also tap both pass buttons simultaneously to pass to the &#39;playmaker&#39; player, allowing a kick to be made from space.

In this way, the passing control in Rugby League 2 allows for quick arcade play, as well as a more strategic approach for crucial moments during the attack.

How do the conversion/penalty kick controls work in Rugby League 2?

Conversion and penalty kicks in Rugby League 2 rely on the gamer achieving the right mix of power and accuracy via a moving onscreen meter. There is an interdependence on both power and accuracy, so the gamer may choose to strike the ball with less power in order to have more control over accuracy.

Will the video ref appear in Rugby League 2?

Yes, the video ref will appear when the onfield referee is unsure of whether a try has been legitimately scored, usually as the result of a strong tackle during an attempted try.

Gamers will have the option of disabling the video ref.

Will the name of the gamer&#39;s currently selected player appear in Rugby League 2?

Yes, the name of the currently selected player will appear at the feet of that player.

Gamers will have the option of disabling the player name display.[/b]

There are other things answered, but these are the only questions that are &#39;properly&#39; answered (as in not "more info will be released later).

Other than that, I just found out that players will exhibit more facial emotion this time around. They will now have an advantage rule aswell, so no more instant stoppages even when you&#39;ve taken the ball from a knock on.
Also, there will not be a coin toss at the start of the match unfortunately... But thats not too big a deal.

I love this game already. It&#39;s about time you can choose who you want to pass the ball to.

it&#39;s still there, but not as bad this time... When you sprint, and you reach a decent speed, you can plateau it by holding the button from there (so you can maintain your speed from that point just by holding it down).

pretty cool i guess...im hoping that u tap it a couple of times for forwards to get to there full speed but lesser for backs or faster players

kaftka
07-06-05, 08:40 AM
I&#39;d think that would be the case. Faster players or players with good acceleration would reach top speed quicker than slower ones. I think that sounds like a good way.

I like the way Sidhe are coming up with new big ideas to improve the gameplay rather than just putting out the same mediocre ways with improved graphics. As these (passing, sprinting etc.) areas are very important. This game sounds like a winner in my one-eyed opinion.

i dunno..locksley came out and said that rugby2005 was way better than jonah lomu...

i and many others played lomu till the death of the ps1...still some losers play it lol
but after purchasing rugby2005 and playing it for a week and ahalf....

i am bitterly dissappointed that this game is supposively the best rugby sim out there!!!

I SO HOPE THAT THIS IS THE PERFECT FOOTBALL GAME...
coz if it aint..im personally gonna address mario.....

Theres no such thing as perfect. Rugby 2005 is better than JLR. Get over that game. Please.

But, based on what we&#39;ve heard so far, they have really done up the gameplay, and everything else. I mean, look at the gameplay features....Jumping, stripped balls, an &#39;inventive&#39; sprinting system (which sounds workable imo), a god (sounding) passing system (one which I have been wanting for ages now), a new kicking system.

And if they get those done right, thanks to the franchise mode and all of the teams, we&#39;ll still be playing this for well after the 2 week lifespan of Rugby 2005.

...And they all lived happily ever after.

thats my whole point

if rugby2005 is BETTER than jlr
how come me and thousands of others only played this game for like a week???

its stupid really
i remember when lomu came out there were competitions held at home amongst neighbors and at school for prizes, even in town at efans and stages(gaming arenas in auckland) they held massive cash prized competions for the best lomu players.and this is over a period of 3-4 years!!!..and rugby2005???...what..where???

if this is the best its quite tragic really..if these developers r smart then they will deliver some real gameplay for footy fans and their succesful game will grow instead of me purchasing a game that boast alot but only to put it on shelf next to madden 99 and international superstar soccer98...and instead of me and many others thinking :im not gonna buy this game...becoz the last thing that came out like this and promised so much..it sucked.....so im just gonna rent it out every month or so http://www.therugbyforum.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif

Yeah, and remember how at Central Park and Electronic Boutique they still were selling JLR on their shelves way after original players like myself (hahaha) had played it to death for years earlier. We would walk in and say "It&#39;s still here."

I thought JLR was such a good game because there were so many masters and grandmasters and supersaiyangrandmasters around that I was never confident of ever being the best. I only felt that sense of self doubt with Unreal Tournament.

No, we don&#39;t get any NRL on TV (that I know of) and I don&#39;t really like it but Rugby League games are kick ass! I had an old game called &#39;International Rugby League&#39; made by EA in 1996 (I think) which I played for years. I really enjoy the quickness of the game which is quicker than Rugby Union but I personally MUCH rather like watching Rugby Union.

So Mario, (if he is still visiting here)

Is the currently slated release date of 21st October looking likely or unlikely?

No big promises, no guarantees, just is it likely or not?

By now a fair idea is surely not a huge ask is it? http://www.therugbyforum.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif

He said it was likely to come for the september release date, so even if he did the same for october it wouldnt mean much. Unless there is something really wrong with the game that we dont know about, I reckon it will come on the 30th of October.

Well, if not an indicator to a release date, how about some idea as to whether this is going to be a franchise, yearly or otherwise?

This title is called Rugby League 2, not Rugby League 2006 or anything like that. If sales match hopes, will it be a yearly franchise?

How about some good news of any kind from Mario as some sort of "Thanks for being patient, guys" kind of thing.

I know your busy Mario, but lets hear something from you, please?

How about telling me if my team, Cronulla is nearer the top, bottom or middle of the NRL teams abilities in the game?

Well, here&#39;s hoping...

There isn&#39;t much to say really, other than quash the rumours of an October release. Many people are expecting that because some retailers have suggested 21 October will be the release date.

A release in October is pretty unlikely at this point.

the odds of this being better than rugby 2005, 4:1
the odds of this being better than rc2006, 2:1
the odds of this being a hox to boost pre-sales revinue, and the reallity is that there is no rl2, 1:1

do the developers have any sence of urgensy what-so-ever muzz? although weve seen disasters caused by rushing (ala r2005) theres a point when this game could turn out like guns and roses next album, chinese democracy (axle rose has been saying its been coming out every year for the last 10yrs for those playing at home)

Well, I don&#39;t know about everyone else, but thanks for that Mario.

Now at least I can still look forward to it but without having that "it&#39;s almost here" feeling that I think kinda ****** people off.

I&#39;d rather be able to dismiss it for October, and focus on something else for the time being. I&#39;m sure I&#39;m still gonna love it when it comes out, I just feel good now it not like a carrot on a stick in front of us.

Obviously there are issues that need dealing with, but for future titles from you guys, how &#39;bout promoting it with a release window rather date. Like "Oct-Nov 05" untill the whole 100% sure factor kicks in.

Anyhow, can&#39;t tide us over by telling us who the top 3 rated teams are?

Well, "September 05" was the initial release window, and we shifted the release window in early September. We have never set an actual date.

Things only become 100% sure when the game is 2-3 weeks before being on shelves.

In any case, the continued development has proven very beneficial for the title, so everyone will benefit in the end. Waiting sucks, but hopefully you&#39;ll find that its worth it.

Things only become 100% sure when the game is 2-3 weeks before being on shelves.

In any case, the continued development has proven very beneficial for the title, so everyone will benefit in the end. Waiting sucks, but hopefully you&#39;ll find that its worth it. [/b]
Let&#39;s hope so

I think we were all hopeful that the delay would only be small and would come out in ocotber but its not the case now. So long as it comes out before the end of the year I will be happy and as others have said they are other games to buy and play while we wait for nrl 2 to be released.

At least most of us are not having a mental breakdown here about the delay compared to the official league forum members - would probably sign up myself on that forum if it wasn&#39;t for all the under 10 year olds on there moaning about things they have no idea about............

....and Mario: Can&#39;t see why people are complaining about the video ref in that NRL deluxe vid - that first try was clearly grounded prior to being lost (and correctly given as such by the video ref)..........also a totally different animation to the disallowed try shown in the same video (also correctly not given by the video ref).

Well, "continued development" eh? I&#39;m all for anything that makes a game better prior to release, it really is the gamers preferred legitimate excuse.

I mean if the delay has meant 4-5 annoying bugs are history, well, I could stand waiting a little longer even. As long as it means this game has the lastability of something like Jonah Lomu Rugby.

Also, if your out there Mario, is a PSP version, ruled out ever?

While we&#39;re on the subject, if there is a X-Box version, please have custom soundtracks, I get soooo sick of the same music over and over and over.

It seems to me I&#39;ve found a possible weakness of Mario&#39;s, being reasonable in my expectations and not screaming insults or sales threats, like someone that it&#39;s been better without recently.

Only rubbish stuff. I normally hire games out.

Won&#39;t buy until I get a decent footie game out.

I don&#39;t know much about PS2 online. Seems very small fry here in NZ. In fact I haven&#39;t seen anyone I know who is PS2 online, just the XBox people.

But if we can work this out then playing overseas people would be great as all these people around me hate playing me because I am too difficult to play. Yet I know that I am not that fantastic at all, it is just that the local competition are pathetic!

FIFA 06 is a million times better. Maybe not quite as good as PES in gameplay, but the amount of options, and the gameplay improvements it has closes the gap pretty well.

you just get a network cable and connect it to your network adaptor then connect it to your modem....you need a memory card...and before you play anygames you have to setup a network, dont worry it comes with the cd. We would like to bring a rugby league title to PSP. I think it would make a pretty cool PSP game actually, especially if you could hook it up to another console to take your franchise on the road with you.

Whether it actually happens or not is another story.

While I try not to go off topic, it seems appropiate here...

PS2 online in general is pretty weak.

Here&#39;s what I&#39;ve tried with PS2 online:
SOCOM2: Generally plenty of players in Australasia, but I enjoy shooter games far more on PC.
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory: Only games you&#39;d get would be laggy.
Burnout 3: Hardly ever found games that I could play in, when I did it was laggy but bearable.
Hardware Online Arena: Plenty of players, is about what you&#39;d expect for a free game though.

I&#39;m hoping there&#39;ll be plenty of Australasian players for RL2 http://www.therugbyforum.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif.

yeah can depend on the server and the connection of both people that are playing. generally speakintg nz will get worse connections to uk and america but will be fine within nz and to Aus.

Just downloaded the NRL deluxe footage, although its not very clear it is the best gameplay footage relesed so far, it looks pretty good and I only noticed a couple of things:

1. The passes were all very slow and lobbed making it difficult to pop a quick ball to a suport player(players seem to run in support quite well)

2. Does the video ref only make calls on strips over the line? In one of the tries scored by the tigers, the guy cleary slides dead and the try is awarded without the video ref. If it is only on strips, is there more than one animation.

If Mario or anyone else knows the anwsers it would be much appreciated

P.S. The tigers do this gay high five celebration, and Freddie Fitler sums it up nicely!! Its pretty funny. Apart from that one, the cut scenes looked pretty good. Overall im impressed, hope its not too far away!

I&#39;ve got a 256k upload speed, which is actually below the recommended 512k upload speed, so it might be playable with a better connection than what I&#39;ve got.

However, it makes sense that, the further away your opponent/server is, the worse your connection will be.

Thanks for answering Mario. Lets hope we get to hear that other story some day.

Does RL2 have create a team, so that you can take your own created team into a season or franchise?

Also, I&#39;ve had an idea for a game feature, one that I&#39;ve talked about for about 6 years and that EA have just adapted into this years Fifa, (probably not because I e-mailed them the idea twice over the last couple of years, but more likely that one of their development team probably thought of it too), but it&#39;s called the Fifa Lounge in their version.

Basically theres a mode where all players with a profile play each other as often as they want in friendlies and the game keeps records of all the stats, wins, losses, who beat who, who beat you, goals, passing etc. Its great being able to settle all of those arguments about who&#39;s the best in your own multiplayer group. It completely makes ordinary friendlies only for newbies who&#39;re afraid to take you on till they are upto speed with you.

It sends my flatmate nuts that I&#39;ve played him 11 times for 9 wins and 2 losses. http://www.therugbyforum.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wacko.gif http://www.therugbyforum.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

So, finally I get to the point, is there ever hope for this in any future Rugby League game? Or even other sports title, if you guys have one that it might apply to? http://www.therugbyforum.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif

If you could do so I would be grateful.
