Glasgow v Toulouse
Date: Friday 17 October 2008
Venue: Firhill
Kickoff - 20:00, Live Sky Sports/Canal+Sport/Sky Italia

So Glasgow's hopes of progression are all but gone having failed to win what should have been their banker away fixture. Obviously that was made more difficult by injury to key players who return this week but it's a big ask for them to make a difference this week especially when one Dan Parks is a player in question.

Toulouse for their part need a big performance as bonus points will be crucial come the end of this pool and a last day trip to Bath could easily see them eliminated from the tournament so time to start picking up the extras with these 4 games against Glasgow and the Dragons.

Ah hahahahaha.

They've got more hope of winning this than Saracens have of winning a full house fixture...

Happy to see Jean Baptiste Ellissalde coming back, and find back a Kelleher/Ellissalde bridge
Toulouse will certainly close up a bit their defense...

Decent start from Glasgow but that should have been a Toulouse penalty when the Glasgow centre played the ball from the knock on.

Toulouse got out of jail there. The try-line was begging for Glasgow. :C Toulouse are appalling.
...And that's a wonderful try from Skrela.

Sucker punch for Glasgow there, good line from Skrela, looked all too easy.

Thought Glasgow were rather fortunate to get that penalty but Parks makes no mistake.

Sir Speedy

I guess that evens it up - Médard also cocks up a sitter...
And Skrela shows why he - along with Parks - is the most embarrassing fly-half in World rugby today... What an absolutely shocking DG attempt with no pressure on...
And it's HT: Glasgow 9 - 7 Toulouse

You don't expect Toulouse to be blowing chances like that.

Better play from Toulouse setting up the drop, again thought Glasgow were fortunate to not be pinged.

Wouldn't mind seeing that pass from Nyanga again.

Sir Speedy

DG from Kunivoreos and a try for Kelleher, despite some indecision from the ref.
17 - 9? Nope, that berk's fluffed it...

...Wow, who'd have guessed a bit of pace would threaten a defensive line? If Glasgow had finished that off it would have been stunning...
And that's the try of the evening (so far; not saying much either really). Lovely chip over the defence and a great finish from Jauzion...

Game over now.

Larl. Glasgow try after a laughable mistake from Skrela. Game very much winnable now: 16 - 22 to Toulouse.

Almost spoke too soon there but that's a great result for Bath with Toulouse not getting the bonus, good performance from Glasgow but you've still got to think Bath should go there and get the full haul. Toulouse could be in serious trouble in this competition.

Sir Speedy

Agreed, Bath have at least a 2 point advantage over Toulouse and I expect that they'll need to win at The Rec if they want to top the pool now...

and given what Lineen just said about concentrating on the league you'd wonder what sort of effort we'll see from them in their remaining games.

The commentary was like watching a Man United match for god's sake (Ronaldo Is God and the best player ever and all that shite)! According to them Thom Evans should have been able to beat Toulouse on his own with both hands behind his back. Why do sky always feel the need to hype stuff up?

It could be interesting to see a Paris vs Toulouse in the Stade de France in quarter final if Toulouse didn't reach the top of the pool. ^_^

Poor performance by Toulouse. Medard & Ahoteiloa were especially bad, Skrela... a few embarassing moment like always but a sweet try, he's not that slow after all. A great Jauzion, back in his top form, now the all team need to step up at his level for a win at Bath in january...

Tolouse were lucky, on the balance of play Glasgow deserved to win but missed a few oppurtunities and they were split open far to easily. Tolouse shouldnt be to worried, i think the Warriors have a great chance to beat Bath at home but they'll be dissapointed to miss out on a bp. What the hell was Beattie doing kicking it out, to stay in the competition they had to score, it typifies all thats wrong in the Scottish game.

It's a shame that Glasgow just don't have the winning mentality. If they had a bit of experience in snuffing out some of the big boys they would have pounced on toulouse's miss-chances and that scoreline would have been something different.
I wouldn't feel too confident if i was toulouse at this satge. They said, "If you can win playing badly, then you're not in too bad a state." obvisouly i'm paraphrasing but it wasn't as if it was a comfortable win. A bit more clinical rugby from glasgow and they could have walked away from that game with a few more points to their name.
Play like that against a better team and they'll be punished left, right and centre.

They're making the same mistake as last season with this very lassez-fare approach to group games and the early-knockouts.

Each time with a fair bit of grumbling, they've done just enough to get across the line first and they got some serious shocks from London Irish and Blues last season before being completely unable to break down Munster.

Well, good, i say.
If they're gonna be so flippant about group stages (i'm not sure it's arrogance, just a little complacency, maybe) then they deserve to get grilled all over the field by the better teams...and it'll happen again this year.

I don't know if this is complacency, at this point in the season they are not as good as they were last season. That's what you can see with some other teams to, just look to Clermont or London Wasps. Other teams on the other hand improve look to Bath or Stade Français.

They may not be as good as they were last season, but they are a better team than they showed to be against Glasgow, that's for sure.
