Who are you going to create first up?? (apart from the Saffas)

Connacht will probably be one of the first teams I'll make, provided they aren't in the game(which is reasonably likely since they weren't in the EA Rugby games, as afaik. Would be cool to have them for franchise mode! If other Irish teams aren't in it/licensed I'd probably see to creating/ editing them next.
Rugby challenge is looking more and more like a club game and RWC for internationals so I'd probably go about editing clubs first, and see how the 'international game" plays. That said, I'll probably end up just playing the one with best gameplay, regardless of teams etc.

Man I can't wait for these games!!

Quick question (sorry if its been asked before) but will players be able to share teams or players they have edited for others to downlaod on their consoles to save them time etc?
I would love to know this as well looking great so far guys.

The player editor is looking fantastic.

I have a question for Mario or Milla about the little snippet at the end.

Is that a pre-done cut scene using the the in game models? Or is a actually taking place in real time?

What im trying to say is.......

If I were to watch a manual replay (fingers crossed) would I see that animation take place from whatever replay cam I was using after a try or are they pre made and called in accordingly?

EDIT..Obviously all of the animations are pre-done and called in, I mean the scene and shot as a whole.

Milla
23-06-11, 03:27 AM
It was rendered in the game engine after a try.

CeeJay
23-06-11, 04:44 AM
Awsome......that just makes me want a manual instant replay even more!!

Seeing the amazing work you guys have done so far, like an create a player better than most EA sports titles, an instant replay
shouldnt be a problem!

But Sidhe managing director Mario Wynands told attendees at the User Experience conference in Wellington that its Rugby Challenge game for PlayStation 3, XBox 360 and PC, due for release about the time of the Rugby World Cup, could be its last traditional retail title.

The console games industry was undergoing rapid change, he said, and faced a challenge from cheaper, digitally distributed games, that can be supported with advertising and offer enhanced, monetised features and services.

Sidhe met with mixed reviews for its contract work, but its home-grown downloadable brick-breaking game Shatter was well received by critics and consumers.

Its FlickKick Football game, developed by mobile gaming arm PikPok, has been purchased and downloaded more than a million times, he said.

From next year, nearly all its games would be free or very low cost, but would allow people to purchase items or services within them, he said. `We're not a production line any more. We're a service provider."

According to a Facebook post, they said it doesn't mean they won't make an RC sequel, they'll just distribute it digitally instead of selling it in stores. Personally I am all for that. Discs are stupid.

yes eb are pushing this hard in nz saw a similar thing to sambad at my nearest eb all blacks rugby challenge completely dominating the front of the store with a huge pre-order display. I'm pretty sure rugby challenge would be aimed to come out in time for the start of the world cup which would be a late august early september release. submission to sony and microsoft typically takes between 8-12 weeks so I wouldn't be surprised if both games had already been submitted or were only a couple weeks away from it.

just saw that ranfurly shield is in the game. i hope it moves about to teams similar to how it works in real life. Like if you start a franchise and canterbury have it (like they have now) if they lose it to auckland and then you play an ITM cup season that new team has the shield.

come to think about it, i dont know if i would like that or not... anyway its to be seen how this works. hoping it comes out when pre-orders are saying it is. I am still undecided which one I will be getting first.

How much of a difference could one expect between the Xbox and the PS3? Is it much easier to share files on the PS3 compared to the Xbox?

It seems that Sidhe always gives the kiss of death!!

They predicted Crusaders win in SR final, and they lost; now they made a (great) screenshot of Waratahs and Benn Robinson, and this morning he's been ruled out of the RWC due to knee injury!

Please Sidhe, stop publishing anything!!! :D :P I'm already happy, I don't want to know anything new about the game :D :D

Well, stop joking, I'm very happy that Sidhe still cares about old pc-users, who has no money (and time to waste) to buy gaming console, but proud of using their NASA-computer (warming more than hell, up here in a 40°C July in Italy) also for playing rugby games!

I'm only disappointed about not having Italy's license, just bureaucracy matter, and rights and money issues asked by white collars in FIR... but anyway I don't particulary mind, as here in Italy nobody plays rugby... we only play a strange sport of 15 men running straight into 15 men, with 4 sticks and 2 bars dig in the field.

Yeah exactly. Having the competition between the two means they will probably have to do this to survive, otherwise everyone will jump to the other. I personally hope that both provide a good amount of replayability. Nothing more annoying (especially in a sports game) than it to be completely mastered in a week or so. I do have trust in both developers to not have made this error, and Alistair has assured us 'hard' now means 'hard'.

I find it difficult to understand the fanboy element going on with these games. Why can't people be happy that we'll have two rugby games, instead of siding with one and making bogus statements about the other... People seem to forget that the rugby market has been starved of a game for four years- maybe this is what happens when you spoil people!

Milla
13-07-11, 11:11 PM
It's inevitable, I think. Xbox versus Playstation, iOS versus Android, Windows versus (any other OS), etc. If there are two products competing some people feel compelled to champion one of them at the expense of the other. Mario's observed that (from what we know of RWC 2011) we could well find that our two titles complement one another really well. I can't wait to check out RWC 2011 :)

People really don't understand the reality that we're extremely lucky to have 1 rugby game being released in our current economic state (let alone 2 games). Keep up the good work both companies, along with the staff at TRF (who i'm sure are sick to death of the same silly posts).

Looks good (licence terms) obv. the trailer doesnt show loads in terms of "actual" gameplay. However am glad that the pro12 is in the game :)

Interesting that it's the old Ospreys kit, there's a shot of a Blues player getting tackeld by an Edinburgh player, and the it's def the Blues's new home kit.
Really like the look of the offloading in the game (if thats what it's like in the real gameplay anyway) which was something I hated in the last Sidhe game I played (Rugby League 3). Then again, that wasn't helped by the annoyingness of the Wii controls.
Try scoring animations look good too, hated all but 2 of them in Rugby08, too unrealistic for most of them.

From what i gather, the system allows you to offload in either direction (or at least attempt to). Success of this will be stat based. I'm sure Mario and Co will give an expert comment on this or head over to SIDHE forums, its defo been explained there :D

From the (leaked) gameplay footage, offloads are pretty similar to sidhe's rugby league games. Closer to JLR than HB's. I only going by video footage tho

it never bodes well with the sidecam community, when the behind cam has 3 times more variables

i wish the side view had more options - far, close or wide - cause then there is room for error and flexbility

right now if side cam is not right, the game wont be right for the sime cam purists

Replay on or off implies the same kind of replays as RL3......does this mean that manual instant replay is out? Are
you able to comment on this yet? Surely its getting to the point where stuff is either in or out and there will be no
further additions.

Based on there still being no manual replays, and the short gameplay footage posted on Twitter, I feel that this game is going
to share alot with its cousins (the RL series).

The gameplay footage, while short reminded me alot of RL3. The running animation, the try dive and the player movement/directional changes
all looked familiar. This is not a bad thing, its the other things that this game may inherit that have me worried.

At this stage I expect to buy this game and be blown away by the graphics and presentation (minus replays of course) and to have a lot
of fun on the next level up from easy for a few games. I will then put the difficulty on the hardest level and expect to see the game
fall upart as did RL2 and RL3.

e.g. Wingers getting run down by props consistantly. This results
in no runnaway tries for either side.

No draw and pass made it nearly impossible to put guys away
without spamming the sidestep.

Hot potato offloads (this ruined league god mode. the AI just offload like
maniacs and lose the ball, they never complete a set)

The AI could not score (on the odd ocasion where they did get a
break they would often throw it back 5 metres to a marked team
mate when they were clear to score.)

Anyway, you get the picture. I will buy this game, but I have this sinking feeling that Im going to
the same old road. RC has graphics and features that rival the best. (minus manual replay of course)
But has this left any room for some significant changes in how the AI plays? I hope so, but I'm sceptical.

This is how I feel at the moment, of course my opinion will likely change as I see more and I really hope that
Sidhe prove my doubts wrong this time.

Rant over, I promise I won't mention replays again.

Considering also that the World Cup is kicking off on the 9th September and I could have sworn Mario or Milla had said that the game will be released before the World Cup, so it possibly could be likely that these dates are in contention.

If the release date is around the 9th of september, that would be great... A day before my birthday :p

3 new teams?? Samoa, Tonga and Fiji? i hope they are licensed :)

TRF_Olyy
25-07-11, 12:48 PM
I reckon those three would already be in there, licensed or not and they said these are three new teams, not three new licenses for teams already there

I reckon B&I Lions, Barbarians and someone else (Pacific Nations XV, Classic XV, World Cup Winners XV, something like that)

That's a mighty improvement on the "leaked" vid. Smoothly does it.

Only 1 NH stadium I presume?

I'd guess at "London" "Cardiff" and "Dublin" appearing, but I'm not sure how many they've said are in the game

Good to see two game angles in there too - Side on looks good, think it looks more "real" that way, the behind cam view looks a bit arcadey or something (maybe not the right word, but basically I've always preferred side on view to behind)

6 from Europe if I'm correct. Game looks awesome, and yes an improvement on the Beta vid for sure! Passing looks slick.

Vid looks good, liking the offloads and tackle breaks :D :D Not sure the Turks would play attractive rugby shown in the vid, but that's just nit picking :P :P Certainly looking nice, can't wait to see if the controls are responsive.

there does seem to be a lot that can happen at once. There also seemed to be some kind of bar or a circle that would influence set pieces and other things like rucks. On the plus side it looks amazing and the passing looked super slick too. Definitely seems like a step up from sidhe's league games.

Very very impressed! Gameplay looks very smooth, the tackling and the breaks look superb! Kicking system looks similar to the Rugby League titles, but much better. Liked the variation in the rucking techniques and the lineout and scrums looked cool. Can't wait for this to be released :D

Forwards are pretty slow IRL :D Pace looks realistic IMO... seems like RWC will be fast and arcade, will probably be good to have 2 different games.

yer i think the pace issue is due to the fact i've been playing JLR a lot lately, that can get hectic :P Had a second/third look and its all seems good :D

A couple of questions i have which may have been answered:

Are the Ospreys and all the magners league teams in it? I presume they are, but is the actual magners league there?
Are all clubs licensed and so have all players and likenesses?

I presume the international teams apart from NZ and Aus are all unlicensed but do all the players get rated as they are in real life, but with just different names? And also do these players look like real life? If not a lot of player editing to do ha!

Gameplay looks perfect speed to me. They look like they have a perfect balance tbh. I'm really excited now. I'm certainly getting this over RWC. I will probably end up getting RWC when it comes down in price if reviews are good just as it's an alternative rugby game though. But the fact the teams are so limited, and gameplay looks average means that isn't an option atm for me.

Yes they are, The Magners league has a new sponsor and is now called the RaboDirect Pro 12 league. In the gameplay trailer, the ospreys are seen in the game (although wearing last seasons Purple and Black kit - which i really like so i aint bothered :P)

Presume the purple/black is just a placeholder until the new kit is released

Ahh wasn't aware what new sponser was, last i heard Ford were on the front line. Wasn't fussed on the idea of the Ford League haha!

I didn't like that kit much, but kits don't bother me. Chuffed the league is on there :D

this is amazing
anyone that doesnt think this is the greatest looking and flowing video game of rugby is lying to themselves
even the side cam look amazing and finally i see a bit of complexity with "alot of things happening at once" - which is a good thing
god dam - i'm getting both games, but i cant have 1 month of annual leave
which game to i take holidays for?
ferk what an epic predicament i find myself in

The mighty Connacht in video game form! happy days...

Really like what I see, the "pop-iness" of the passing from the leaked vid seems to have been improved/eradicated and looks considerably smoother - side cam looks very good, with enough of an angle to see the necessary gaps between players in a defensive line whilst also retaining the detail & quality in the graphics.

Not sure if I am going to be able to get used to the slo-mo effect of kicking during play (can this be turned off? what about when playing local or online multiplayer, does slo-mo still happen there too?)

Some of the tackling looks excellent, dummy passes look superb and just generally the overall polish and sheen of the title really stands out. In terms of the look and atmosphere during a match, RC does stand up to current versions of FIFA (what we all seem to agree is the benchmark).

The game pace did seem a little slow and perhaps juttery at times (but still improved over the leaked vid's) but I'm not willing to make a judgement call on that until I have a controller in hand and I can feel the pace myself in tandem with the controls I'm inputting.

The only thing left for me to hope for now is that the depth in customisation hits my expectations and allows the realistic creation teams and their kits not featured in the game (I'm talking English Championship, Currie Cup etc, not unlicensed teams).

Kudos to Sidhe so far!

I think you can turn the slow-mo kicking off in Rugby League 3, so I'll be suprised if you can't in this. I never did turn off the slow mo kicking though, found it quite useful. You do make an interesting point about multiplayer though, never really played RL3 with any of my mates (and obviously you couldnt go online) so never found out what happens there/

Watch 1:16 to 1:20 great piece of attack from the AI against the user! It makes an attacking play from it's own 22m.

The computer player dummies the user then goes right draws the user in then gives a great short pop up ball to the support player, who then gets tackled by the user player coming across from the left side, but the comp player keeps his feet and is able to give a great cut out pass which is just missed by the users flanker (who's postioning awareness was exposed by not staying wide) to his player unmarked outwide with just the users full back left to beat with a man in support on his right and left.

just watched this for only the second time. mainly because I am at work and have been working.

I must say I am quite impressed with what i have seen, I was watching it and cant get over how cool it looks.

some of the passing looked like the players were stopped when receiving the ball, like the animation stopped to say, hay this guy has the ball, just for a split second. i thought it was just a couple of plays but it looked like it happened almsot every time someone caught the ball.

Other than that it did look great, i loved the place kicking bar, very nice. as well as how the scrums looked. though a couple of times in the ruck formations that the second or third guy in the ruck would join in a funny place, but thats nit picking as it still looked good.

the lineout also looked good, having to get it in the centre to make sure your lineout is straight, nice touch.

i jsut want to get my hands ont eh game to see what it plays like for me as well :)
