Serious goings on at the Man City Christmas party with Joey Barton and Jamie Tandy getting in a right mess. Tandy tried to set Barton on fire and Barton stubbed a cigar out in his eye. Barton has been fined 6 weeks wages and Tandy two. Gobshites the both of them.
Maybe Souness has got one thing right this season by cancelling the Newcastle Christmas party that could, probably would have been us. http://www.therugbyforum.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif

This transfer window isn't exactly proving to be as interesting as some people thought. Doesn't look like Morientes will be going to Liverpool after Wanderley Luxemburgo said they'd be helping a rival, although that doesn't make much sense to me, they're hardly likely to meet any time this season and even if they were Morientes couldn't play.
Villa were brutal today, Alan Quinn did himself no harm with a very good display for the Blades, he's a better option that Miller at the moment for irish backup midfielders.

Miller is too lazy, certainly needs to improve his workrate.
Another dodgy result for Man Utd, held by Exeter at Old Trafford, 93 league places between them. http://www.therugbyforum.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif http://www.therugbyforum.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif http://www.therugbyforum.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif
I think Miller is going to be forever troubled by the Neil Lennon syndrome - an inability to pass the ball in a forward direction.
Great stuff from Exeter City, that's a good result for United!

Looks like Morientes has got his way and is on his way to Liverpool for about €10 million or €9 million if they pay in one go. Lyon had bid €12 million but Morientes wants to go to Liverpool and would have stayed at Real if he couldn't join up with Benitez.

Well not the happiest of debuts from the latest member of the Spannish armada, pie boy managed to score the only goal but another goalkeeping blunder costs Liverpool in a big game. Good to see Roy Keane having a decent game, cracking effort as well unlucky not to score.
I'm still very worried for Newcastle, I know he scored today and I couldn't care less but it has to be for the betterment of the club to drop Titus Brambel, again at fault for a goal today. Signing 2 ordinary defenders isn't going to fill me with the best of confidence. I've seen enough of Babyaro to know he's an ordinary player. I'll give Boumsong some time but coming from Rangers still doesn't fill me confidence.
Chelsea just keep on winning although credit to Spurs they didn't park the bus today, Arsenal stutter at Bolton, even more strange goings on at Man City, Robbie Fowler man of the match http://www.therugbyforum.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ohmy.gif. Wright Phillips really does look the business though.
Results this weekend.
Aston Villa 3 - 0 Norwich
Bolton 1 - 0 Arsenal
Charlton 3 - 1 Birmingham
Liverpool 0 - 1 Man Utd
Man City 3 - 1 Crystal Palace
Newcastle 2 - 1 Southampton

Dodgy reffing in the West Brom Man City match this evening. Yet again Graham Poll gets involved in a controversial decision, albeit one that didn't affect the outcome of the game but highlights his incompetence as an official, afterall this is the same ref who was sent home from Euro 2000. Perfectly good goal from Richard Dunne but Poll claims he hadn't blown the whistle. Still wouldn't have affected the outcome.
Chelsea stretch their lead to 11 points although that'll be back to 8 with Arsenal at home to Newcastle. http://www.therugbyforum.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif Man Utd temporarily up to second place. Everton couldn't capitalise on Liverpool's slip up at Southampton, didn't see that one coming. Norwich Boro looked fairly shite, credit to Norwich for the comeback of the season with 3 goals in the last 10 minutes. Not a bad day all round for the struggling teams.

City was robbed! A screamer of a free-kick denied because he didnt blow his whistle? It might be what it says in the manuel mate, but use your common sense - everyone was ready and the keeper dived for it. Don't see how the attacking side gained any undue advantage from that.

Dreadful performance from Newcastle at Arsenal. How we only lost 1-0 I'll never know, fantastic performance from Given and that was it for Newcastle, O'Brien did alright when he came on, why Souness persists with Bramble I'll never know. Every time I see Dyer play he looks hungover. There's just a lack of quality, and what quality there is Souness is doing his utmost to undermine them i.e. Robert, Bellamy. Why he was appointed I'll never know. The sooner we get to 40 points the better I'll feel cause there's no chance in hell of getting a European place unless there's a chance in the fairplay league http://www.therugbyforum.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif

More mediocrity into Newcastle to join the incompetent management with the signing of Amdy Faye for €3 million. http://www.therugbyforum.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif
I think Bellamy is right to feel agrieved, he has a touch of class that is seriously lacking and if Souness cannot get his head out of his arse and realise that then he should feck off. Unfortunately the chairman seems to be siding with Souness. I'm probably in a minority still but the sooner Souness goes the better, the only problem is finding a replacement.
An Tarbh
28-01-05, 05:30 PM
Unfortunately there was only going to be one winner as far as Bellamy and Souness are concerned, Newcastle and Birmingham have agreed a €9 million deal. Yes he's a hothead but he's also a decent player, something we're lacking especially with the amount of injuries we have. Souness has seriously mismanaged the situation and it's cost us.
SaintsFan_Webby
29-01-05, 08:39 AM
Looking at the Bellamy situation from an entirely neutral perpective (ie. I don't like him or Souness), I would have to agree with the club on this issue. Yes, Bellamy is being asked to play out of position, but he's a professional and should just get on with the job, rather than moaning about the manager. Souness has to deal with the resources he's got as best he can, and if Bellamy refuses to play where he wants him to, then I think Newcastle have got every right to get rid of him.
An Tarbh
29-01-05, 11:00 AM
But the fact that Bellamy has played 20 games out of position shows he's willing to do a job for the club. I don't blame him for getting pissed off but Souness is the type of manager with the belief that you do it my way or you get lost, it's no wonder Shearer won't sign another contract with Newcastle for next season.

Petr Cech kept his run going with a penalty save yesterday, that 13 hours without conceding a goal, although his defence isn't exactly stretching him every game. Nice to see one of Schiemechel's records gone.
Another Chelsea win sees them 11 points clear, wonder what the margin will be at the end of the season. A late Duncan Ferguson winner gave Everton a boost in their champions league quest. Mediocrity again from Newcastle, although an away goal from Shearer from play still give you hope in a 1-1 draw with Man City. Other results saw Pandiani score twice on his Birmingham debut as they beat Southampton while there were 3 penalties missed as Fulham drew with Villa thanks to a last minute Lee Clarke header.

Newcastle again unable to win at home, what more can be said. Spurs beat Portsmouth 3-1 while Arsenal won this evening at Villa 3-1.

Newcastle's unbeaten run came to a shuddering halt, as Aston Villa claimed a 3-0 win on Tyneside.
A well-taken goal from Juan Pablo Angel and two penalties from Gareth Barry clinched the three points - but the result will pale into insignificance compared to the shocking scenes which tarnished the end of the game.
Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer were shown red cards for fighting amongst themselves - as Newcastle lost all self-control as their unbeaten run came to a shuddering halt.
Villa boss David O'Leary has been boosted by the news that he will have money to spend in the summer and it may have acted as a spur to his side, as they took an early lead on eight minutes - but the goal owed much to the shoddy defending of Newcastle.
Steven Davis' cross can best be described as hopeful, but it caused panic in the Newcastle box and Angel lashed his shot past Shay Given after Jermaine Jenas made a real horlicks of his attempted clearance.
Newcastle have found their stride in the last six weeks and they responded to the setback by creating a string of chances.
Jenas attempted to atone by clipping a lofted ball to Alan Shearer, but the Magpies talisman failed to test Thomas Sorensen with his header.
Sorensen did earn a percentage of his fee on 12 minutes when he produced a fine low shot from Bowyer who had combined well with the Laurent Robert.
Newcastle poured forward in waves, with Dyer seeing a low shot well saved and Jenas wasting two fine openings.
Dyer had been asked to play in a support-striker role and he took to the task with relish and he came close to levelling the scores on 20 minutes, but his acrobatic volley flew just wide.
Bowyer was active at both ends of the pitch, as only his alert tracking back prevented Gareth Barry from doubling Villa's advantage after a quicksilver break from the Midlanders.
Barry has one of the finest left foots in The Premiership, but he came within a whisker of netting with his 'swinger' as his low shot from the edge of box hit a post before bouncing to safety, while at the other end the wasteful Jenas was at it again seconds before the break as he slashed his shot wide after being teed-up by Dyer.
Newcastle came out in positive fashion after the break and the vast majority of St James' Park were pleading for a penalty moments after the restart, but Barry Knight failed to see what appeared to be a clear handball from J'Lloyd Samuel which prevented Shearer's header from finding its target - an unmarked Bowyer.
Angel had a chance to put the game beyond Newcastle on 50 minutes but, after eluding Jean-Alain Boumsong with ease, he dragged his shot disappointingly wide of goal.
A combination of Sorensen and the crossbar prevented Bowyer from finding a leveller and Newcastle paid for their failure to find the target as a shocking blunder from Nicky Butt allowed Darius Vassell to stride in on goal and he round Given before seeing his shot blocked by the hand of substitute Steven Taylor.
Knight had no hesitation in dismissing Taylor and Barry stepped up to rifle the spot kick beyond the Irish keeper to bring Newcastle's unbeaten run to a halt.
Referee Knight was not done and he awarded Villa a second penalty after Stephen Carr and Vassell tangled on the edge of the box, with the result being the same - Barry lashing his effort into the top corner.
Villa took a welcome three points back to the Midlands, but Newcastle ended the game with eight men after Dyer and Bowyer started fighting in the Villa half.
The pair squared up and traded blows, which left Knight with no option other than to send the pair from the field.
Newcastle had looked so good before the international break, but their season is in serious danger of imploding - especially as two of their better players on the day were sent off for fighting with each other.

Saturday's results
Blackburn 3 - 0 Southampton
Bolton 3 - 1 Fulham
Chelsea 1 - 1 Birmingham
Man City 1 - 0 Liverpool
Middlesbrough 0 - 1 Arsenal
Norwich 2 - 0 Man Utd
Portsmouth 4 - 2 Charlton
Not surprising to see Portsmouth and Man City picking up wins with the first home games for their managers, strange to see a full house at Man City. Man Utd dug the final nail in their championship coffin with defeat at Norwich, Chelsea only need 8 points for the title although the only thing Arsenal and Man Utd will be pushing for is that automatic champions league spot.

Another poor weekend for Liverpool's quest for the Champions league qualifiers, Everton taking the advantage back in the race for fourth spot today with a 4-0 win at home to Palace.
Not exactly confidence building stuff from Newcastle facing into the biggest week of the season with the away leg in Lisbon and the semi-final in Cardiff losing at Spurs today.
No la Liga thread, but Real just beat Barca 4-2 with Beckham believe it or not being the best player on the pitch, in doing so setting up Owen for a pretty decent goal. Hate both teams, but today I was glad to see Eto'o, Ronaldinho and Riikjard nicely beaten again.

Chelsea pretty much have the league done and dusted now after not losing to Arsenal. Man Utd gave Everton a great boost for their champions league qualifier spot wiht a 1-0 victory at Goodison plus gave Newcastle a bit of hope with the sendings off of Gary Neville and Paul Scholes meaning they'll miss Sunday's match, not that that should make much of a difference from a team that can't beat Norwich. Liverpool still kept their champions league qualifer spot alive with a 2-1 win at Portsmouth.

I'd say Liverpool will be hoping that Spurs win Chelsea the championship at Arsenal on Monday, hopefully they'll celebrate a bit too much ahead of Wednesday's game.
Winning the Champions league is looking more and more like the only way they will get back into next season's tournament after losing 1-0 at Palace. Chelsea winning again this afternoon and Everton got a late draw.
Norwich and Palace doing their survival hopes no harm today, they'll be hoping for a Pompey win tomorow against Southampton.
A win for Newcastle should see survival secured for another season.

Everton have secured their qualifying spot for next years champions league, could end in tears though, Liverpool would have been guaranteed their champions league position while Everton will probably fall in their qualifier. Can't understand the FA's decision espeically with the document that said last year that if a team outside the top 4 won the Champions league that they would get to defend their title and it would be UEFA cup football for the 4th placed team.

Come next season, I predict Drogba's critics being made to eat their words. I've been a fan of his for a couple of years, since I saw him playing at Marsailles, and I think that having got some Premiership experience under his belt he will really start to repay his transfer fee next season.

Man City have finally announced Stuart Pearce as the new manager.
About time too, Phsyco has done a top job since taking over the role, guiding the club from mid-table mediocrity to pushing for a European place, and fully deserves to be awarded the full-time appointment.
I'm glad for him, he's better than 99% of the free agent mangers floating about like Peter Reid, Robson, Howard Wilkinson etc.

Alonso has been up with Premiership pace since day one, he won't have any problems because he hasn't had one in the first place.
Cisse is getting there, I expect him to explode very shortly.
Kezman has a better goals to games (minutes on pitch) ratio than Cisse!!

Palace have conceded too many late goals this season to stay up and again it costs them today. As for Norwich you can't expect to have much hope of staying up if you can't win away from home.
Gutting way to finish the season for Man City, ironic with Fowler actually showing some decent enough form as well.
