From SArugby.com

Jake White just can’t bear to watch the Springboks play dismally anymore. And he’s ready to help the struggling team he coached to the World Cup three years ago.

“I can’t bear to watch the Springboks playing like this anymore,” said White after the Boks’ 41-39 defeat by Australia in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

“I’m ready to do a hospital job and coach the Springboks to the World Cup in 2011 if the South African Rugby Union wants me.”

White is set to assemble several members of his coaching team that helped the Springboks to the world title in 2007.

“I’ve spoken to [former Wallaby coach and Bok technical adviser] Eddie Jones and he’s keen to partner up again. Fitness coach Derik Coetzee is also willing to come on board,” White told The Times.

“None of us are locked into any contracts with other clubs or countries. We could start next week if Saru wanted.

“I’ve already made contact with Saru president Oregan Hoskins but he keeps telling me he has to run the idea past the executive council. Well, I’m saying I’m available because what we’ve seen with the Springboks in the past 10 months is worrying.”

Hoskins declined to talk to The Times yesterday in the wake of the Springboks’ worst-ever Tri-Nations performance.

The 2009 champions lost five out of six games, conceding a record 22 tries, including 12 tries at home. They conceded a record 194 points and accumulated a record low seven log points since the tournament expanded to six games.

And coach Peter de Villiers has constantly been in the headlines for the wrong reasons.

Last week De Villiers told the world that the Springboks supported Bees Roux “100%”.

Roux has been charged for the death of Johannes Mogale, a traffic policeman.

The Boks’ latest defeat came after they had bravely clawed their way back from 31-6 down in Bloemfontein to lead the game 39-38 going into the last minute. Afterwards De Villiers said: “Our structures are in place and they can take us to the World Cup if executed properly.”

Saru’s statement yesterday confirmed that De Villiers would undergo a performance review, a standard procedure after each phase of the international season.

But Hoskins noted in the statement: “All rugby followers are extremely disappointed with results in the Tri-Nations, as are the Springbok team and management. We take the situation very seriously, but there is a process in place and we will follow that through.”

Hoskins said that there would be formal discussions with the coach about some of his reported comments.

He added that he had written to Mogale’s family to express the union’s support and condolences.

With thanks to TimesLive

All right guys, final week of the Tri Nations is under way. The All Blacks have to be considered the favourites here, but Australia could pull off another upset. In my opinion that's unlikely. I pick NZ to win 12+. After the All Blacks destroy the Wallabies, September the 11th will go down in history as a day of carnage.

I've heard on radio that PDV won't be changing the team too much if any changes at all, so we can probably expect more or less the same team for the test in Bloemfontein.Only possible changes I can predict is Aplon in for Habana(due to lack of form) and Wynand Olivier in for Butch James(possible injury) on the bench.

Possible Bok team:

1.Gurthrö Steenkamp
2.John Smit
3.Jannie du Plessis
4.Flip van der Merwe
5.Victor Matfield
6.Schalk Burger
7.Juan Smith
8.Pierre Spies
9.Francois Hougaard
10.Morne Steyn
11.Gio Aplon
12.Jean de Villiers
13.Jaque Fourie
14.JP Pietersen
15.Frans Steyn

16.Chiliboy Ralepelle
17.CJ van der Linde
18.Danie Rossouw
19.Ryan Kankowski
20.Ricky Januarie
21.Wynand Olivier
22.Juan de Jongh

Real team to be announced some time later today...

I am not talking about things like a poor pass missed or the TMP try of Mcaaw , I am referring to when a lineout takes place and we missed the actual line out or when they play and the camera is at the wrong angle and you missed what happened ?

IS it just me ? Am I going bonkers lol ? Or was it different ? Maybe that k@k spider cam was the reason

So with the All Blacks out of the way, the Boks will now have their focus on Australia for the next few weeks. With the coming test being at Loftus, I think it will be ideal to rest John Smit and give the captaincy to Matfiled as he will be making his 100th test appearance in front of his home crowd, thus my team for the test will look like this:

1.Tendai Mtawarira
2.Bismarck du Plessis
3.Jannie du Plessis
4.Flip van der Merwe
5.Victor Matfield (c)
6.Francois Louw
7.Juan Smith
8.Ryan Kankowski
9.Francois Hougaard
10.Morné Steyn
11.Bryan Habana
12.Jean de Villiers
13.Juan de Jongh
14.Gio Aplon
15.Frans Steyn

16.Chilliboy Ralepele
17.Gurthrö Steenkamp
18.Danie Rossouw
19.Dewald Potgieter
20.Ricky Januarie
21.Butch James
22.Wynand Olivier

Though there are better scrum - and - fly-half choices than Januarie and James, PDV will probably stick with them...

Springbok fullback Frans Steyn’s saga with SA Rugby is finally over, and he will join the team on Sunday night in preparation for next weekend’s match against Australia at Loftus Versfeld.

Steyn, who was withdrawn from the All Black match because of a dispute with his club Racing Metro, played a full 80 minutes for his side against Montpellier on Friday night, coming through unscathed.

National teams manager Andy Marinos revealed at the post match press conference that Steyn would be joining up with the Boks after boarding a flight on Saturday night.

“I had a dialogue with Pierre Berbizier (Racing Metro’s coach) this week and we discussed his injury he had. After that injury we agreed it was good for him to play a full 80 minutes which he did on Friday night.

“He should be boarding a plane as we speak and will be joining the Boks when he gets here.”

The Boks, already under pressure after losing at FNB Stadium, will be hard pressed not to pick Steyn, whose massive boot is a major asset at altitude.

Source

So this will probably mean that Aplon will drop to the bench?Just hope that Frans Steyn will be in good International form.

JOHANNESBURG, Aug 22 (Reuters) - New Zealand flyhalf Daniel Carter will be out of action for up to eight weeks after being told he needs surgery on a troublesome ankle injury.
Carter has carried the injury throughout the Tri-Nations, which New Zealand won with a game to spare on Saturday thanks to a 29-22 victory over world champions South Africa.
"Given that movement in my foot is being affected, it's obviously in my best interests to have the surgery now," Carter said in a New Zealand news release on Sunday.
Two things come to mind here.
1. Crap, Daniel Carter is out. That means Cruden will be donning the 10 jersey against Australia, which seriously jepordizes our chances of going unbeaten in the Tri Nations (and I so do want that)
2. Yay, Daniel Carter is out. Now Aaron Cruden can get a bit more game time against the top sides, which will put us in good stead for the RWC.
