With regard to Roux, what sort of player is he? Ideally he'd supply a bit of grunt as Devin Toner is fantastic at the line out, but a bit light around the field.
Fair enough. Like I said, it's probably a mixture of my paranoia and seeing a player I saw as a big prospect for my club laeve. Hopefully he'll come back a little bit better off.

Hmm, Roux is very much an all-rounder type of player. I can't say he'd comfortably mix it up with the likes of say Bakkies Botha, Brad Thorn, O'Conell etc but he certainly isn't a lightweight. I see him as more of an athletic type though like say, Lawes from England. He gets round the park and gets through a lot of work in both attack and defense. He'll probably look to offload or keep the ball alive rather than smash someone. He does have amazing ball skills for a lock.

He's been immense in the 2nd tier competition for WP- a star player along with our young loose forwards- and when he came on for the Stormers against the Bulls his pass put Kolisi away for the match winning try.

Sounds workable. It's nice to hear he's got a good offloading game, our game is very much 15 man rugby so everyone is expected to be able to play.

As for him only being on a one year contract, well that could be one of two things. Either he wants to get out and see a bit of the world before having a serious go at getting into the Boks squad or Leinster don't want to overcommit after the Steven Skyes fiasco. Either way, the lad will be expected to work his socks off.

Speaking of Sykes... how would you like a free second row?!

Eh, you're all right. What a useless bugger. Worst signing since Owen Finnegan.

True, nobody brought in under this scheme has played for the national team but quite a few foreign players have ended up playing for the national team. Kurt McQuilkin, Mike Mullins and Andy Ward come to mind immediately while Andrew Farley and Brett Wilkinson have both played for the A team.

As far as I know, this is the list of "Project Players" brought in by Irish provinces:
    Mike Kingsbeer
    Jeremy Manning
    Peter Borlase
    CJ Stander
    Dan Roach
    Robbie Diack
    Jared Payne
    Richardt Strauss
    Steven Sykes
    Quinn Roux
    Danie Poolman

It's too early to tell what sort of impact Roux, Poolman and Stander will have while Payne has been injured for most of his time here. Sykes, Roach, Borlase and Kingsbeer never amounted to anything. Diack is a solid squad player with Ulster. Manning was okay for Munster and played for Ireland A. So far, only Strauss looks like being a worthwhile investment. He'll almost certainly be capped next season and will probably be Rory Best's primary backup.

Presumably a joke as he recently signed on again with Wigan, love it though just because I'm now going to go on the Wigan Warriors fan forum and read them all having heart attacks/cursing Union.

Rugby league forums worry me with how one eyed and bitter some are towards union! The threads I saw after Tomkins played for the baabaas just bemused me

I wouldn't be too sad at that from a Wasps point of view. Waldouck seems to be nearly as injury prone as Mathew Tait. He is 24 and has had loads of serious injuries already. He is seen as a promising player, but has never gone beyond that due to his injuries.

Perhaps a better physio than the Wasps one could do him some good.

Sounds like London Welsh are taking recruitment tips from the Dragons ... recruiting from the other regions' discarded players.

Owen would be a good fit for London Welsh. Regular rugby may well do him some good.

Seems like Waldouck to Wasps (as mentioned previously in the thread) is pretty much done.

Like Duck said, I don't think this is a massive loss for Wasps. While he is a very classy player when fit and on form, he's injured so often you rarely get to see that.
    12. Thomas
    13. Bell
and then Daly pressuring for a spot too will be great for Wasps (and a Thomas/Bell partnership is going to smash a few attackers!).

I have mixed feeligns - gutted, but you're both right, Waldouck's played a handful of games in the last few seasons and never enough to string together some form. Sad to see him go, buit also quite excited to see him playing in a Saints backline - If he keeps fit, I think he'll do great and saints will get the best out of him.

The other thing is as you say Olly, he's arguably not first choice now.
Honestly I don't know what Thomas is like as a player?
Last season Bell looked good at 12, and that plus Daly at 13 could work well.

    Henry,
Lee Thomas was a really solid physical player from what i remember, great defence. Sort of like a James Downey. I don't think he's improved in anyway since moving to Lyon, that place seems to be a graveyard for development. Plus he has a kicking game (goal kicking and out of hand) and decent distributing game due to his experience of playing at 10. I was calling for him to be in the Wales squad around 2007/08 when we basically had no centres, unfortunately he was banned for punching some guy in the jaw and he also missed out on selection due to injury.

Latest rumour is Gavin Henson to London Welsh/some French clubs/some English clubs

Thomas is a great player, I was really gutted when he left Sale.
Hit's like a freight train (in defence and ball in hand) and has good distribution and kicking as well (can slot in at 10 in an emergency).
Only downside to him was that he was often injured (would play one or two games and then miss next handful).

Edit: Just realised I typed out what welshglory did

How many Lyon matches have you watched this season?

So how can you say that? What other players were you thinking of as regressing there also?

Lee Thomas has just been suffering with injuries a lot this season at Lyon, I haven't read anybody on French forums say he's been especially poor on the pitch, the player who the Lyon fans seem to think is sh*t is Mark van Gisbergen he's really not impressed them.

Isaia Toeava could be off to the Canon Blues and London Irish have apparently signed Michael Worrincy from London Skolars.
