Fiji rugby officials have threatened to boycott sevens tournaments in New Zealand and Australia if military travel bans on players are not lifted.

Meh, let them boycott. I feel sorry for the Fijians who do not support the dictatorship, as they're the ones who are left to suffer, especially as players who have no part in the military, will have to obay the decisions of a militant government, who are not acting in either the players best interests.

as a fiji rugby supporter i think its terrible they're stopping players with military ties from playing, almost everyone in fiji have some kind of tie with the military, i think fiji might actually be right to boycott the events, i'm sure the tournaments would suffer because a sevens tournament without fiji just isn't the same

Yeah for one thing, in 7's, you cant say you're playing the best of the best if there is no Fiji. However its Fiji themselves that are boycotting the tournament, players are free to play just as long as they are not tied to that military that we've seen on T.V causing trouble all over Fiji.

Laws can't change for rugby tournaments/tennis tournaments/music festivals. I don't know much about this particular issue and whether it is a justified restriction, that is another discussion. But i think it's wrong to place sporting events above the law.

If in this case the law is a stupid one, people should put their arguments forward and get it revoked ASAP if they want Fiji to play. If the law is there for a good reason, i guess Fiji will just have to cop it on the chin until the whole military regime situation is sorted out.
