    Kick off formations.

    Hello

I searched for a thread about kick off formations, and didn't find anyone. So my questions is about formation for the reciving team on kick off. The forwards as far as I've seen usually is grouped toghether on one side of the field. And I don't get the point why they do that, besides that i know that mauls is easilier formed. But is there any tactical purpose behind it?

Backs and forwards genarally split on seperate sides. I guess there's no big reason why but forwards can support each other allowing the team to regroup and kick or run. While the backs should be able to those themselves. The ball is usually kicked of to the forwards.

Usually the receiving team mirrors the team kicking, the goal of kicking off is (mostly) to regain possession so the ball is normally kicked high and short for the forwards to regather. Also the formation the forwards lines up often resembles a scrum front row on or near the ten 2nd row behind that and the back row at the back. This often changes so players can be lifted to receive the kick off.
    Soon we shall rejoice

You mean it's allowed to lift player during play?

Yeah it's something tough enough to get the hang of it's usually only done at full senior level.

Thanks for the video. I watched some replays of the last RWC, and realised now how the tactics work and such. And thanks for clearing it out mates.
