top ten players generally rated much more highly than they deserve to be:
Andy Sheridan
Joe Roff
Percy Montgomary
Fade Cooper
Xavier Rush
Rocky Elsom
Andy Ellis
Jeromy Guscott
Brian O'D
Bakkis Botha
I'd love to have Chris Ashton too, havn't heard anyone describe him as world class for a while though, which is a shame

Hate to say this but recently possibly Chauncey O'Toole from "The best amateur player in the world" heaps of glory at Churchill Cup's three years running and a contract with Osprey's, to many of us in the Canadian fan base glad that Nanyak Dala started ahead of him against Georgia last month(not that Dala is a bad player by any stretch but he's been an impact sub his entire career).
As in am I fearful that you might burn me at the stake? Not very!!
I would have used a smiley face there to indicate light-heartedness, only I loath the things.
Rob Horne, he is an absolute pleb, but dingo deans in the only person who rates him I think.
I disagree with Montgomery, but see no issues with the others, Keithmurdoch.
Monty won the 2007 World Cup. His boot took all pressure off James and Steyn.
He is also a Sharks and Newport legend, so that too.

Montgomery once moved to fullback came into his own.
No one else agree with Hernandez?
One good season with Stade Francais and Argentina and suddenly he's the second best fly half in the world, and people still talk of him in the same breath today.
Hmmm some of those clips were quite good. Percy getting smooshed repeatedly by Frank Bunce ended up on the cutting room floor though, obviously.
Soz bru, Monty is on my list of players I'll defend to the hilt.
I find Alun Wyn Jones overrated. He simply isn't consistent enough to merit what many say about him. Same goes for Bradley Davies.
I think Willem Alberts is also overrated by many. He puts in some huge hits, but again, too inconsistent. He looks best coming off the bench with 20 or 30 minutes to go.

I do admit that I respect his status as the smallest guy ever (in tests) to employ the Maori sidestep as his number one attacking weapon. As the vid shows, if you can survive doing that every week for a decade, sooner or later guys will miss a tackle and you'll be in!
Also winning a world cup probably does mean you're not completely terrible, but it dosen't necassarily mean you're awsome either - remember Butch James is in the same catagory. He was an OK player, ran straight and hard and usually kicked his goals, improving under pressure as he got older. Defensive liability though, and makes my top ten because he's been represented as god's gift to rugby in some quaters, which he clearly was not.

Anyone read the comments under the article? Some are hilarious. Apparently Ferris would be lucky to be in the top 5 for blindsides!![]()
Saw them. That one guy in question hasn't watched Leinster play either clearly.
Yeah but he was played out of position as 15 was his first choice, 2nd ten and third 13. That according to his highschool coach. Mallet moved him to 15 and may I remind you he was part of that 17 winning streak team. He was the leading points scorer in the Tri Nations in 2004 and 2005 , and currently holds the record for the most points scored in a career by a Springbok rugby player, have a world cup winners medal. A bad start does not make him overrated.
Sometims people win lots of medals despite being shit at their jobs. My boss was one such, as was Percy. Big whoops, he kicked some pressure goals vrs England. Good on him, and he's clearly a better rugby player than me. Is he qualified to shine Chritian Cullen's boots? No freeking way. He could possibly stich up Mils Muliaina's shorts if he asked nicely.
Percy's won a world cup though, something which Cullen hasn't done or Muliaina for that matter (OK he was part of the squad)...

So Andy Ellis is a better halfback than Will Genia becauase he won a world cup? Its not even an argument eh? Think about what you're saying for a second.
I'm saying that he's not overrated.
He had the bollocks to kick the Boks to victory and acting as their main tactical kicker, that is a big role. Choose a different player to pick on
Apologizes for double post. Phone messed around
