Haven't seen the Welsh side yet.

Like the look of the Sale side, though. Apparently Cipriani was keen to play but it didn't work out with regards to where he's at with his pre-season.
Have to admit, I don't recognise a lot of names from the Saints/Tigers sides.

Interesting that McAtee is with Welsh when he has signed for Plymouth Albion this season.

Hardly a stellar Saints team.

1 Ethan WALLER - Decent prospect, especially if he develops as well as his older brother.
2 Jack ALLCOCK - Don't know much about him.
3 Darrell DYER - Seemingly following in Courtney Lawes footsteps.
4 Tom COLLINS - Having taught him, a pain in the arse in a classroom. Good footwork though and plenty of gas.
5 Tom STEPHENSON - Bright prospect, could see a few LV Cup games in the centres this season.
6 Ryan GLYNN - Another name for the future. Already established himself as Saint's 3rd choice 9 - not bad at 19.
7 Alex WOOTTON - Dont know much about.
8 Alex WOOLFORD - Heard the name.
9 Will HOOLEY - Highly rated young 10.
10 Alex DAY - Nippy 9.
11 Anders MOGENSEN - Great step and quick with it. Would rather see him getting 1st team game time than Noah 'no effort' Cato.
12 Howard PACKMAN - Another I've had the pleasure of dealing with in a classroom. Decent lad with wheels and an eye for the try line. Very young though, may be found out as a bit lightweight.


Must admit I was a little disappointed with the squad. Knew we were unlikely to send out the big guns, but would have been fun to see the likes of Artemyev, Armstrong, mini Pisi and Harrison getting a run.

Argh, was really looking forward to seeing this but I'm not going to be near my laptop this eve and it clashes with the "Team GB" warmup football game, so (of course) every single pub round here is showing that instead.

It was always going to be tough to put out a side as they only found out a week or two before that they were playing, however I'm sure they've got enough players on their books that wanted to play to field a side rather than draft in (basically) Samurai 7s.

They know they're in for a *ahem* "challenge this season and I can understand why they want to keep the 1st choice players as fresh as possible.

Notable how the established big boys are generally using it for development while the mid-lower sides are mistaking it much more seriously. If welsh go on and win it (al be it by drafting in specialist 7s players rather then using their own XVs), it will be a significant morale boost which they'll need. They'll struggle for the most part throughout the season.

Winning it last year didn't exactly help Newcastle's cause... and that was with actual Newcastle players (well mostly)

Newcastle are well known for playing a lot of 7s in their training sessions.
