Very interesting names for Griquas. Vulindlu, Nel and Watermeyer (3 new additions) are in the backline, while Brummer was with the Bulls last season.

Plenty of old Blue Bulls players in that Griquas team, Brummer, JP Nel and Watermeyer.

Gonna be a great opening game for both teams.

And former Sharks in Downey and Vulindlu. I love Griquas and they are a very dangerous team with sort of 'best-of-the-rest' players in their squad. Wouldn't be surprised to see Kyle Cooper heading to Kimberley soon.

The Dragons were looking at signing Brummer earlier (not going to happen now), never really seen him play, is he any good?

Better than Louis Fouche, Kurt Coleman, Earl Rose but not really the level NG wants to be honest. He's good enough for Currie Cup level at best. He might be signed by Zebres or Treviso, maybe even Connacht but the bigger teams can do better than Brummer.

Is this the Stephan Watermeyer that had a stint in Europe?
If so, he is one to watch, great straight runner, I liked his play when he was still a Bulls player

The Bulls have the bench to come good at the end if the Griquas manage (and they do more often than not) to keep the Bulls on their toes.

Looking forward to seeing the which of the young Bulls centers make the position alongside Engelbrecht theirs seeing as Olivier and Sadie have moved on.My money is on a future combo of 12 Serfontein 13 Engelbrecht.

I agree but JJ is a very good winger, would like to see him there and Small-Smith at centre, next to Serfontein
The much hyped Francois Venter has not impressed me yet and I know nothing of Ulrich Beyers

Guess it is time to catch up on the younger and newer talents

    Between

    Jan Serfontein
    Paul Jordaan
    JJ Engelbrecht
    Tim Whitehead
    Johann Sadie
    William Small Smith
    Francois Venter

(in the order that they excite me personally)

    I know nothing of Beyers.

there is a lot of class that has been shown at junior level and glimpses at top level for some even with the only question being how much time they'll get and who'll make the step up. Frans Steyn and Juan de Jongh should both also be available for a while yet and then there's Rob Ebersohn but him and De Jongh.. well they're both good at S15 level but who knows. I suppose this'll work itself out in time.

With this match, the new season finally starts! I cannot wait. Currie Cup has always been about new talent coming through, while the big guns are away on Bok duty. In the past I've seen Daniel, Lambie, Mvovo, Pietersen, F. Steyn and Mtawarira among many others announce themselves to the public and now all of them have earned their Bok selections.

Griquas have a very mid-aged squad which is different from other seasons. In the Blue Bulls team there's some talented guys. I am going to keep an eye on Serfontein, Arno Botha, Hattingh and Adri Jacobs. Would be nice to see some quality talent coming through in Pretoria and see how they do.

Well well... Half-time score is 9-13 at half-time. A try by Rocco Jansen and the 3 types of kicks of Francois Brummer give them the points while Louis Fouche converted 3 penalties so far.
