This only tells part of the story. In the Qualifying Competition which led to these playoffs, Italy had three teams: Rovigo, Mogliano and Fiamme Oro. Five other countries, Belgium, Romania, Germany, Portugal and Spain each had one which were Royal Kituro, Timisoara, Heidelberg RK, Direito and Valladolid RAC.

Mogliano were beaten by Heidelberg and Valladolid while Rovigo only just snuck in to the Playoffs on the last day after hammering Royal Kituro. Otherwise, it would have been Heidelberg contesting Enesei-STM for a chance at a place in the ERCC.

Full stop, the Russian and Romanian clubs, which are fully pro, have proven that they're a cut above Italian Excellenza. Likewise, some other countries clubs have shown that they can compete with the Italians when given the opportunity. The only club that looked out of place was Royal Kituro and even they didn't fare to badly against Fiamme Oro, only losing 24-6.
