I wouldn't describe Pollock as a prick feel like that is a bit harsh.

Can see how he is easy to dislike though.

Maybe, but Lawes' article about him kinda backed up what his on field personality alludes to

Some players are just like that, maybe he'll grow out of it, maybe he'll lean into it
As long as it doesn't effect his gameplay who really cares, just gives people a pantomime villain to get behind or cheer against

Have said it before: he's a player you only want on your side. As an oppo player he's a total shitbag. If he gets a regular England spot we're probably going to love him in time.

He might be an arsehole but he's our arsehole

It’s in every 20 year old’s job description to be a complete plonker. He’ll change, everyone does.

But hopefully not too much - his talent is huge but dressing rooms also need the energy, can-do and, yes, arrogance that he just naturally seems to have. Any coach that tries to neuter rather than nurture that is a fool.

I think what annoys me is how the media spin it's a good thing the attitude it brings in new fans

Like is it actually? No just gives them easy headlines to make
Meh, idk - the celebrations and general aura seem to have cut through. A lot more of my non-rugby obsessed friends know who Henry Pollock is compared to even the likes of Curry who have been international mainstays for a while.

Celebrations are good

I don’t get the general aura stuff though

Most top young players in every sport tend to have a cocky swag on the pitch but off the pitch are not bad

Look at Yamal in football tbh

There are a lot of World Class players who quietly go about their business and let the way they play do the talking. I've never liked cocky barstewards.
Without going to Pollock specifically, but there's a huge difference between self-confidence and arrogance.

No-one could ever accuse Wilko, or Carter, or McCaw, or Jonno, or Nobody, or BoD, or... of lacking in self confidence - or of being arrogant with it.

TBH I'd even go the other way - and say that the more confident you are in your ability, the less you need to make a thing of it. The true greats carry their aura with them, they don't need to big themselves up, it's just known.

Yeah, you've got your pricks as well, your Henson, Guscott, Sexton or Campese - I'm struggling to think of one who wasn't a (slight) step down from a more humble, better player in the same position - even merely of the same era

To be fair I think BOD did cop a bit in his early playing days. Bleached hair and all that.

But that’s only part of the story. The other bit is that some people are simply extroverts and Pollock seems to fall squarely into that camp - Jonny, McCaw and Johnson were all introverted or fairly taciturn.

There has been a bit of a pile on on Pollock which I find extraordinary. He’s incredibly talented but only really in the first year of his career and isn’t he precisely the kind of character who people have been crying out for on other threads - someone perfect for the social media age (not relevant for those others named), someone marketable who will attract new bums on seats?

Yeah he’ll make mistakes, there’ll be periods when things go against him. He’ll learn when to go full bore and when to rein it in but for now just let him be an exuberant kid. In Aus or USA he’d be unquestionably celebrated.

(BTW not digging at you WT, just tying together a whole load of strands).
