They might be right through. If half the current England squad switch and are banned a lot less people are going to watch England matches if they forced to start players who would not currently get near the squad. Trying to protect the domestic league will only be accepted by so many people. If other countries select their switchers the World Cup will become an unequal farce,

They're trying to recreate the 7s series except without the already established fanbase of following your country, and by making it less accessible to non-rugby fans (as XVs is a very inaccessible game whereas 7s is a fun weekend regardless), and 7s is dying even with the established tournaments and teams

Their whole business seems to be based around trying to entice expats and rich bankers who want to jet off for the weekend to watch the ruggers with the lads from their old dorm at private school to watch the various dates

That it's also being led by Tindall and Hooper should really show how unserious of an idea it really is

Getting fans is a major major issue. As well as getting legal permission to host events that will be seen in England as destroying the international game. I can see the likes of Pollock and the Smith’s switching.

The Lions Tour contains players who have signed up so that will be fully overshadowed for sure. If names leak players could even drop out if the backlash becomes so bad.

WR expect it to happen they just think it will flop but some big names will switch for the payday. (And that only some countires will ban switchers while others won't)
