2nd test - Australia v British & Irish Lions

This is a pretty good analysis. It's interesting how Faz singled out JGP in the build up for the try and while it was a great fast ball to Keenan there other more key pieces of play in that build up.

Russell's patience and decision making were absolutely huge. Deciding not to go for the DG because he recognised that the Wallabies were knackered and slow at getting into position defensively. Ballsy basketball offload after attacking the space and committing Suualii which created more space out wide. Deciding to play safe by not throwing out wide to Conan because he was isolated and/or may have knocked on in contact (interestingly Keenan didn't pass to him either and instead backed himself to finish).

The Russell of a few years ago might have passed that to Conan, who would have ran down a blind alley with no support and probably got turned over. Instead he realises that's a no-go, goes back into traffic, gives it to Ryan who makes a few yards instead. By this time, Keenan's back over with Conan and uses him to get around Ikitau.

I was with ROG though in comms, a drop goal was probably the most sensible option 15-20m out, but Russell didn't look interested. I can't remember him ever hitting a dropper tbh.

Same*, but it's not a skill many FHs have in the locker these days - or a set-up that many teams practice.
Aside from George Ford, I'd be surprised if any current player has hit more than 10 in their entire career.
It's almost seen as giving up on a "better" score.

As unreal and ridiculous the reaction from Aussie media and pundits has been it’s totally unsurprising.

Forget the multiple offsides in the build up to the try, previous attacks and lack of a scrum penalty.

It was the right result in the end.

Yeah, seen and probably been involved in way less justified crashouts. Sheehan's try is a bit much but Morgan is borderline, right side of borderline imo but borderline.

Anyway, onto next week:

Porter, Sheehan (c), Furlong, Ryan, McCarthy, Beirne, VdF, Conan, JGP, Farrell, Lowe, Osborne, Ringrose, Keenan

Kelleher, Smellis, Clarkson, Beirne, Pollock, White, Russell, Kinghorn

It's quite simply, the right thing to do.

+1

Jobs for the boys. Test caps for the boys including ma boy. May as well make the English, Scots and Morgan fly in economy on the way back from Sydney as the crowning turd in the waterpipe.

Without Aki I think that team lacks balance.

For me, it was fully legal – he was as low as anyone could possibly get in that situation, there was a clear and positive attempt to wrap, and he won the collision. I simply don't get how anyone could think otherwise, and I thought Jac did great when he came on after Tom Curry's magnificent 60 minutes.

The whinging from some parts of the Aussie media is embarrassing. We, as a nation, live by the sword and die by the sword – and above all, I'd like to think we're strong enough as a sporting country to take the referee's word and not blame others, as some of our former players and pundits have done. It's bloody embarrassing, and we should be magnanimous in defeat to an outstanding Lions side.
Not my words, the words of Shakin' Stevens…. Sorry, David Campese.

If a Lions fly half has not been practicing drop goals then thats a dereliction of duty. I dont fancy Bundee Aki having to step up with the drop like Guscott did in 1997.
