No one is actually suggesting Byron should coach England, it was a **** take because I said England should raid Tigers again

The Telegraph (I think?) article makes it sound like they're grooming RW for the role but it's so long away who knows

I'd like AF to be the next England coach but have very little faith in the RFU getting him

Seeing as it looks like Wigglesworth is likely next in line I'd have felt much better about that if he'd have gone back to Tigers for two seasons in the head role rather than played musical chairs with England

Yep. Head coach is more about people management and big picture stuff than getting yards dirty coaching.

Including me.

My point was simply that no-one would have predicted McGuigan would be an obvious candidate to become a sought after defence coach.

Wigglesworth might find his niche in that role. Who knows?

El Abd as forward coach could be a good shout mind. Has experience and success in that role. Be interesting to see how he gets the pack working...if any changes...

He might indeed. But the national team isn't the place to find out.
I still think it would be better if some of these went on to be head coaches at prem teams or (teams abroad as El Abd has experience of)

But i still think part of Borthwicks remit from the RFU is to build experience and rounded coaches...hence some of this moving about.

I'm still sceptical. A club at the bottom of Pro D2 is the extent of his coaching experience prior to landing a part time England spot and we haven't stopped leaking points since he came on board (for weekends only)

He won the top 14 league with Castres as their Forwards coach....

Also Oyonnax who he got promoted to the top 14 as Head Coach has a population 22k people...so i think he probably did well to get a small club like that promoted. He also got them in the Champions Cup.

I wonder if there is a big 'on paper' element to this with the actually changes being smaller than we think, Al abd forwars/defence coach which Wiggs just does defence but not alot changes as I doubt he will fully rework the system behind implemented.

Yeah

Yeah i think you're right, probably not huge changes.

Going to be interesting to see how this plays out. Definitely scope for friction if England are just seen to take.

From the article
Bath's centre Ollie Lawrence, who suffered a ruptured achilles while playing for England in the Six Nations, could return for his club in a friendly against Worcester Warriors — his old club who have re-established this season — a week on Friday.

That's about 6 months? bloody hell - that's pretty much "miracle cure" territory. Didn't expect to see him this side of Christmas.
I also wonder if that puts us in a salary bind, having signed Chris Harris as injury cover - which I had thought came from the injury dispensation
ETA: may shed new light on Bailey's departure as the club will have been far more aware of his rehab progress

Having a read of the regulations around the injury dispensation; and... it's a bit weird for an injury covering 2 seasons.
3.36 The entitlement to an Injured Player Credit shall be lost if the Injured Player is selected by a club for a match day squad in any match (i) before twelve weeks has elapsed from the date the Player was certified as having been injured in the Injury Certificate, or (ii) during the first eight weeks of the current Salary Cap Year, where an Injured Player Credit applied to the same injury in the previous Salary Cap Year.
Given that player contracts generally start July 1st, that 8 weeks would already be over - and would normally be over before the first (competitive) match of any season. Which feels like a ****-take, and one that's been deliberately written into the regulations.
Of course, if "salary cap year" is still defined as September to September, then it's no problem - but would create an awful lot of shenanigans for a whole bunch of contracts that cover 2 months of 1 season and 10 months of another - and trying to balance that.

Sad as a Bath fan but happy as an England fan. Hopefully he does well and keeps the gig for a reasonable amount of time so we can actually build some consistency.

This is something we have spoken about on here...the urge to rush players back after iniury for England ignoring their club. I for one do have sympathy with the clubs.

Eg Why rush Tom Curry back when you have the numbers of back rowers that we do fightng for a spot. Hes quality but we can afford to give him more time...

It'll be interesting
