Etzebeth banned for 12 weeks. I think that gouge was so egregious and sustained it deserves more.

Don't quote me on it but I think "weeks" is just the language used in the judgement, but it actually equates to matches.
Also we have to consider that Etzebeth claimed he was worried he'd be rag dolled by Mann.....
I don't believe the gouge was accidental. I'd respect Etzebeth more if he just admitted he mistakenly thought Mann went for his eyes so got angry and retaliated. I'd be much more understanding of him just having a really bad moment and would set it against an excellent record (even if he does push people in the face too much for my liking).
Wonder if Habana will apologise for spreading that BS about Mann gouging Etzebeth now that Etzebeth himself said it didn't happen?
Yeah but there's a strong likelihood Etzebeth would've been rested quite a lot in the upcoming weeks after a busy summer/autumn with the Boks
I saw Tim of Eggchasers talking about this. Do you do it like in football, if you get red cared for your country, you serve your ban for your country only. Not buying his statement at all. Since when did etzebeth ever worry about being rag dolled? Also he didn't accidently stick his thumb in his eyes, he was looking right at him as he did it and was driving it in.

I prefer this yeah, Ireland copped some amount of abuse for gaming the system in the 6n and it could be avoided like this.
I think you could have a hybrid system, let's say red card is an automatic 2 match ban at the level you received it or higher (so if you get it for your club, it can still apply to country but not vice versa) and then any additional punishment is at any level you'd have played.
So in this case, Etzebeth misses 10 Sharks games instead of 12 and the next 2 Boks games. Missing those Sharks games is no punishment at all for him. A gift really considering how they're going this season.

I have to add i find the character witness statement from ardie...weird, saying hes a good guy off the pitch kind of makes it worse...rugby makes him agro...and so he shouldnt be punished as harshly?
