World Rugby announce relief fund for cash-strapped nations

My big question: why only the SANZAAR and Six Nations countries? The other unions, if anything, are even poorer, especially the Pacific Islands.

World Rugby announce relief fund for cash-strapped nations

Cash-strapped Rugby Australia is set to benefit from a World Rugby relief fund. World Rugby on Thursday announced a relief fund of $US100 million ($A158 million) as the coronavirus pandemic continues to wreck havoc on sporting events and organisations. The fund, comprising advances and loans...

Could rugby ever be as global as basketball or even football?

The gradual financial fallout caused by Covid has unfortunately put into sharp relief many much deeper and underlying problems with rugby. In particular, the few wealthy Tier One countries and their clubs spending beyond their means - even France, considered to have the most financially healthy...

    Pro14 Suspended Indefinately - Covid 19

Given that three Welsh rugby stadia are being converted into field hospitals, that doesn't portend well for resuming the season.

Irish Rugby - The Party Years

Couldn't the Pro 14 resume in a few weeks, only excluding Italy and SA?

    Pro14 Suspended Indefinately - Covid 19

Um, I think Cardiff are rather more likely to make the European Cup this time round than the Ospreys are...

[2020 Six Nations] England vs Wales (07/03/20)

Just a correction: Welsh regions won the Pro 12/14 three times since Gatland took over: Ospreys in 2010 and 2012, then Scarlets in 2017. Also, Dragons have been rather worse than Bath most years - more like Worcester level if anything.

[2020 Six Nations] England vs Wales (07/03/20)

Mostly good points, but just to point out: Wales lost to the Chiefs 40-7!:D I think the Gatland years were more a silver generation than a truly golden one - 1970s Wales or early 21st century England they were definitely not. Gatland maximised the talents and abilities of the players available...

[2020 Six Nations] England vs Wales (07/03/20)

'Shocking' is an exaggeration, surely? Even when not winning titles, Wales were not usually Scotland/Italy level of bad.

[2020 Six Nations] England vs Wales (07/03/20)

I wonder if Wales looked relatively good during the Gatland years due to how poor the 'blue axis' of Argentina, France, Italy and Scotland often was, plus the occasional away wins over Ireland and England and occasional home wins over SA and Australia?

[2020 Six Nations] England vs Wales (07/03/20)

Scoreline flattered Wales, although if England really want to progress to being constantly as good if not better than the All Blacks they need to sort out their discipline.

Súper Liga Americana, new South American Pro Rugby Competition

A little bit, but I think this is based on World Rugby's rankings: the six countries involved in the new league are the top-ranked teams in South America.

Súper Liga Americana, new South American Pro Rugby Competition

This is certainly an exciting development. The more rugby grows globally, the better.

    U20s 2020

Well Nick Cain in The Rugby Paper complained about the team that lost to Ireland being under-strength.
