Irish Rugby - The Isolation Years

Looking at the squad, it's clear Ireland are weak at hooker. Going on a tangent, James Ryan and Andrew Porter were fast tracked into the Ireland squad despite being nowhere near the Leinster team. Is there something to be said for fast tracking Dan Sheehan in a similar fashion? He has very...

    A great big Munster thread

Couldn't agree more. A lot have been arguing for some time for Munster to trust in younger players rather than seek quick fixes and it's great to see it happen. Results have been favourable too. Keep it up and by next season Munster will be real contenders in Europe.

    The Leinster thread

No idea. Would hate to see it but could understand. There'll be a huge number of players who are on good wages yet aren't on the international radar. They could be low hanging fruit when it comes to cost cutting.

    The Leinster thread

Some very encouraging performances last night. Jimmy O'Brien, Tommy O'Brien, Harry Byrne, Josh Murphy and Scott Penny were excellent. Nice mix of youth and experience in the side. Rhys Ruddock continued his stellar form.

ProX Round 3 - this is also on

Very impressed by Jimmy O'Brien for Leinster last night

    Transfers rumours

https://www.the42.ie/ben-murphy-leinster-munster-5242551-Oct2020/?utm_source=shortlink Ben Murphy to Munster on a short term deal. It's a good move for all parties. Munster need scrum half cover. Murphy will be higher in the pecking order than had he stayed with Leinster and has a chance at...

    2020/21 Guinness Pro 1?: Round 1

Saw this in the comments section of the42.ie report on the Munster game: Having not seen the game, I can't accurately comment on how Peter O'Mahony played. If those stats are correct, it doesn't make for pretty reading.

    2020/21 Guinness Pro 1?: Round 1

Johann van Graan earlier this week: Craig Casey in the team only because Conor Murray is injured. Ben Healy on the bench because there's no more experienced option. No sign of John Hodnett, Jack Crowley, Jake Flannery, Roman Salanoa, Keynan Knox, Matt Gallagher or Liam Coombes in the 23...

Cheetahs and Kings booted from pro 14

I feel sorry for the Cheetahs as they added to the competition. The Southern Kings were a joke and won't be missed. This has the potential to be a game changer for the former Pro 14 in terms of revenue and bring them closer to the French and English leagues. Hopefully something can be...

    SA teams in Pro??

Peter O'Reilly in today's Sunday Times says to expect an announcement on Tuesday about the big 4 SA teams joining the new Pro 16. Southern Kings are in liquidation and Cheetahs will be cast aside. I'd like to see an 18 game season. Play teams from your own country home and away (Scotland and...

    Champions Cup 19/20: Semi-Finals

Delighted with that result. As easy as it is to admire Saracens as being a brilliantly effective unit, the style they play with is horrible to watch. It'd be great for the tournament to have a first time winner.

Champions Cup Quarter Final: Leinster v Saracens

The more I think about it, the less disappointed I am with the result. Leinster's problems are fixable. Improve the scrum and tighten up discipline and they win the game. Leinster are a coming team with their best years ahead of them. They are where Sarries were 5 years ago. In the pack Ronán...

    The Leinster thread

Problem was depth at tight head I thought. Despite being good in open play, Andrew Porter clearly struggled in the scrum. Just wasn't his day. Shame Tadhg Furlong wasn't fit. My biggest takeaway was Leinster need to develop prop depth. I've a lot of time for Michael Bent but he wasn't trusted...

    The Leinster thread

Ryan Baird developing into a quality starting player. Dan Leavy and Tadhg Furlong soon to return. More opportunities for Harry Byrne. Looking forward to next season.

Champions Cup Quarter Final: Leinster v Saracens

Best team won. Vincent Koch was man of the match. Was it 7 scrum penalties? Nobody had a bigger impact on the game. Second half subs brought Leinster back into it. Ryan Baird was excellent when he came on.

Champions Cup Quarter Final: Leinster v Saracens

As a Leinster fan it's very easy to be critical of the performance so far. Instead, focus on Saracens. Scrum, defence, pack and kicking game have been brilliant. Full value for their lead and probable big win based on the opening 50 or so minutes

The grass is greener for Roman Salanoa and Jack Aungier in Munster and Connacht respectively. Vakh Abdaladze and Tom Clarkson have a chance to step up.

    A great big Munster thread

Not sure I agree with this. While he's not getting ahead of Furlong or Porter any time soon, they'll be in international squads quite a bit which frees up opportunities in the Pro 14. John Ryan and Stephen Archer will hoover up those opportunities in Munster. I'm not saying it's a bad move for...

    A great big Munster thread

Roman Salanoa appears to be the latest player to make the move from Leinster to Munster. https://www.the42.ie/roman-salanoa-munster-leinster-5098109-May2020/ Hard to know what to make of it. He wasn't getting ahead of Tadhg Furlong and Andrew Porter. John Ryan and Stephen Archer aren't getting...
