[2015 RWC] Pool B: South Africa vs. Japan (19/09/2015)

Bloody hell, I'm Japanese but I figured there's no point waking up at 3:30am to watch SA steamroll over Japan so I didn't set the alarm. Woke up, checked the score and had to do a double take. Definitely going to watch the replay this evening.

[2015 Super Rugby] Rebels vs. Chiefs (Round 12) 02/05/2015

I understand the yellow card for the knee, but I really hope they get back to penalising players holding on to defenders because it's been creeping back into the game since they stopped enforcing that rule.

[2015 Super Rugby] Blues vs. Lions (Round 4) 07/03/2015

Christ, the Blues can't seem to find the tryline (or the ground behind it, rather) to save their lives.

[2015 Super Rugby] Bulls vs. Hurricanes (Round 2) 20/02/2015

Hurricanes definitely has the upper hand at scrums so far.

    Oceanic name pronunciation...

I do wish commentators took a few seconds to check tricky names with players themselves. Since I'm Japanese, the one that stands out is Shota Horie - it's "ho-ree-eh", not "horry". Also, Jerome Kaino. Everyone says "KAY-no", but isn't it supposed to be "KY-no"?

[2014 EOYT] England vs New Zealand

I'm not upset about the outcome; I just don't like the way it came about. I don't believe we should ignore an error if it didn't affect the outcome; it should be addressed so that it won't be repeated in a game where it does affect the outcome. If Owens wanted to make a decision for himself, he...

[2014 EOYT] England vs New Zealand

Jesus, what is it about England vs. All Blacks matches that bring out the worst in our posters? :p I can only say this in hindsight, but I knew the All Blacks were going to win when they were only 3 points down at halftime despite England putting them under massive amounts of pressure. They...

The Distribution of Top Tier Rugby Clubs Around the World

Yeah, but Japan's population is something like 25x New Zealand's, so it's not so surprising.

    Kurtley Beale in Trouble

I agree. There's just so much we don't know, so whatever we speculate might be totally off the mark and we risk blaming the wrong party/parties no matter where we stand on this issue. Having said that, I can't help but sympathise with Patston. When you're a woman in a male-dominated field...

[2014 TRC] Argentina v Australia in Mendoza (04/10/2014)

That try didn't look 'comically bad' to me. ;)

[2014 TRC] Argentina v Australia in Mendoza (04/10/2014)

Ah, that's where our communication broke down. I was talking about Senatore's try near the end of the first half - which was, of course, credit to the Argentinians, but I said it was a good result for the Australians as well because it meant they didn't get a man sent to the sin bin (in that...

[2014 TRC] Argentina v Australia in Mendoza (04/10/2014)

Skills... to concede a try? Read my post again, I didn't say it was lucky for the Pumas, I said it was lucky for the Wallabies.

[2014 TRC] Argentina v Australia in Mendoza (04/10/2014)

Lucky for the Wallabies that the Pumas scored that try - otherwise Owens would have lost patience and given a yellow card. HT: 8 - 14, Australia leads.

[2014 TRC] Argentina v Australia in Mendoza (04/10/2014)

Not sure about the decision to go for a scrum. Argentina needs to get some points on the board if they want to stay in the game. Edit: and there's why...

[2014 TRC] South Africa v New Zealand in Johannesburg (04/10/2014)

Eh, I thought Barnes actually had a pretty good performance. He was fair and consistent and let the game flow for the most part, though I'm not a fan of the way he reffed breakdown turnovers. A lot of his 'not releasing the ball' calls should have gone the other way for the tackler being off...

[2014 TRC] New Zealand v South Africa in Wellington (13/09/2014)

Crotty should be back from his injury next week, so he'll be fit for the match against Argentina.

[2014 TRC] New Zealand v South Africa in Wellington (13/09/2014)

I get that 14. Smith and 15. Dagg is a much better option than the other way round, but I feel like we lose so much by playing Smith at wing. He was completely anonymous last week against Argentina. Also, has anyone else noticed that Savea is the only 'specialist' winger for the All Blacks...

Supporting your Team & Changing Allegience

Despite being an Aucklander, when I started watching Super Rugby in 2012 I was actually a Crusaders supporter... In my defence, the Blues were a difficult team to support in 2012! I warmed up to them as I attended more games in Eden Park.

[2014 TRC] Australia v New Zealand in Sydney (16/08/2014)

An awful game in awful conditions; wish I didn't bother staying up for this game. I don't think Peyper was to blame for that, but I didn't watch the entire game so I can't be sure. I ended up falling asleep around the 50min mark and woke up to the handshake line and the 12-12 score on the TV...

    The Movie Thread

I had "The Kick" recorded on TV and watched it today - a little cheesy, but I enjoyed it. My brother and I had endless fun trying to guess which player each actor was supposed to be.
