Yeah that's why i didn't include him. His situation is pretty fluid - if he isn't in the Australian reckoning i'd say he takes a big payday contract in France/England! You'd at least hope to sign a few more sizeable signings post world cup as it seems like UR are clearing the books a bit!

Squad players really, but still a loss. Interestingly, Ulster only have van der merwe (...yeah who?) and Coetzee as overseas players. There is literally no chance in a month of sundays that van der merwe gets a new contract but Coetzee seems like he is playing his way into one!

Have it on good authority that Coetzee is aiming for the 1st/2nd game of the reason for his return! Would love to see Timoney - Coetzee - Murphy playing in the back row with Henderson operating out of the 2nd Row!

Paddy Jackson to Perpignon on a 2 year deal confirmed by the club!

Yeah Ruan to coach is the big rumour. He has apparently indicated that he wants out of the last year of his contract with Montpellier.

I think you hit the nail on the head with Ruan's family never fully leaving Belfast. Francois Steyn's family moving leads to some interesting speculative thoughts on a grim Monday afternoon! Would be a very capable signing if true!

its getting to the point people don't care where he ends up anymore. From an Ulster perspective it puts to be the Carbery option and gives us a clear idea of where we stand at O/Half. One thing i will say.... please not Keatley!!!!

    The Ulster Thread

I am reliably informed that his rehab is going well and he is expected to be back for next season. Shame that his name has featured in a lot of the negativity around ulster "signing duds". a very useful player to have so i hope he can have a 'breakout season'. Far more use than Deysel has...

Professionalism probably wasn't the correct wording to articulate what i meant - maybe his rugby maturity would be more apt? That said he is still very young and that rawness will hopefully fade away to leave the IRFU with a strong post-Sexton contingency plan going forward. You are correct in...

It certainly wasn't a glamorous pick, but i think it will turn out to be a good pick. He's a 10 year stater from day 1. Lions fans were crying out for a offensive linesman/Edge guy. However, Quinn himself professed his priority was to upgrade the run game and we've beefed up the the O/Line...

    Transfers rumours

Well i wouldn't say we are getting the foundations right.... just yet. We obviously have targeted players in Marty Moore, Will Addison & Jordi Murphy who 1) upgrade a position of need, and 2) have international aspirations. Certainly something i am pleased to see as we fell to journey men who...

Probably a fair enough stance by the IRFU - in reality the last thing you want is to force a player to move to somewhere they don't wish to go as this will inevitably impact their playing standard/development. Going against the general consensus of Ulster Rugby Supporters, i actually am not...

I think (along with quite a few fellow ulster supporters) that whilst the decision was not preferential, its an understandable outcome and the Province needs to move on from this saga. My only bone of contention is how the media out-lash was a massive factor in all this and that surely played a...

    2023-2024 transfers

You're not wrong there. As an Ulster fan its so frustrating. The issues we have encountered (for me) are:- 1. Overseas investment- Bryn Cunningham shouldn't be in a job in my opinion. For example, two of our permitted NIQs have played a handful (if even) of games this season. This stream of...

I have always thought Jordi Murphy to Ulster makes sense! Nick Williams thankfully moves on at the end of the season and Coetzee is better in the flank than at 8. Our backrow is our biggest need right now and i could definitely see it happening with the IRFU pushing Henderson to play in the 2nd...

    Transfers 2015/16

Agreed. Brilliant servant to the Irish cause! There is logic behind the move and no-one could blame him for taking a final few seasons to bank roll retirement! Perhaps a good opportunity to give an Ulster man a go in the international scene in the form of Iain Henderson?

    Transfers 2015/16

Did they not bill it as signing the top 4 players in the world (or something to that effect...)?? If so then i wouldnt place Cooper or Nonu up there. last one will be a second row to replace Ali Williams.... Paul O'Connell rumours seem quite strong at the minute... although i was under the...

    Wide Feet Problems

Couldn't agree more on the asics front! i use to live and die by the Addidas Flanker range but converted to Asics last season and wouldnt look elsewhere. depends on your position as to what boot to opt for i guess, but the Asics Warno boot is great!

Jean de Villiers's amazing recovery could see him back for july

So long as he doesn't come back and re-injure himself. To me that would be an even worse end to his career! The difficulty with knee reconstructions is the impact it has on the rest of the leg. hamstrings, calf muscles, reduced mobility, lack of flexibility... it all takes its toll! - - -...

    Transfers rumours

After hearing rumours that none other than Julian Savea would be taking to the RDS pitch, seems like that may not be happening with Zane Kirchner being retained and big talk of Isa Nacewa returning.... Also, Darcy not to be retained? Could signal a Robbie Henshaw move...
