[2018 Rugby Championship] Round 3: New Zealand v Argentina (08/09/2018)

Why is it that it is always Smithy (I think?) who is the commentator for the Argentina matches and not Grant? It seems like it happens every year for the Argentina games, both home and away.

[2017 Rugby Championship] Round 4: New Zealand v South Africa (16/09/2017)

Not the forwards. I'm talking about the backs. Starting with the scrumhalf and on up. NZ aways seems to win the last 20 minutes. Whatever their conditioning coaches are doing is clearly giving them a significant edge on the opposition.

[2017 Rugby Championship] Round 4: New Zealand v South Africa (16/09/2017)

Too much time in the weight room for the Boks? Every player was bursting out of his jersey - impressive musculature but outweighing your opponent by 15kg is useless if playing an opponent with an expansive high-skill game and you run out of energy after 60 minutes.

22 October 2016 v Australia, Eden Park, Auckland

So Luatua is back in the mix? I haven't been following how he has been playing in the domestic matches. Is this a form selection?

22 October 2016 v Australia, Eden Park, Auckland

I wonder if the NZRU will be thinking hard about trying to keep Cruden from signing an overseas deal. I don't know if they can compete with the NH clubs obviously, but surely his experienced and steady hand (and boot) is going to be needed. - - - Updated - - - We have the challenge system...

[2016 Rugby Championship] South Africa v New Zealand (08/10/2016)

Looks like the Boks ran out of gas badly at the end too, and probably got demoralized. I just saw the Liam Squire try on YT, and it amazing how much running the AB backs did with nary a Bok hand on them. It is as though they were in live motion while the Boks were moving in slow motion.

    Aaron Smith's Aerial Adventure

This has even made news out here in the rugby wilderness that is the USA. For the first time, I have seen a rugby-related new item on the front page of CNN. I don't think even the ABs winning the WC made it to the front page! I guess salaciousness sells much more than actual athletic achievement!

What does the announcer say at Millenium Stadium?

When Wales makes a score, what does the announcer say? I can't catch the first part, is it in Welsh? The second part goes something like "Penalty Goal for Wales. Number 10, Stephen Jones!" Thanks!

    my rugby position

This. Focus on the basics - catching and passing the ball in traffic at speed, tackling, etc. Depending on who else is on your team, you may be able to play anywhere from lock to full back. :)

    England Post-WC discussion

That was quite possibly the funniest clip I have ever seen! I just about spat out my coffee all over my keyboard this morning!

[2015 RWC] Final: New Zealand vs. Australia (31/10/2015)

Haha, that's some funny stuff. I guess I've got to go back and read my history, but why are you guys different countries anyway? Seems like (at least to a North American ignorant of regional history), you have very similar colonial backgrounds, still part of the Commonwealth, etc. At least...

As a rugby fan, what/who do you look forward to over the next 4 years?

I hope I can continue to watch the SH matches in the rugby wasteland that is the US. Thankfully, most of the matches can be found a day or two later in the back allies of the Interwebz. And oh yeah, looking forward to seeing the ABs reclaim the RC. :)

    Is rugby your favourite sport?

Thanks. Ill watch the match you recommend. As far as Hayne is concerned, its a great story but unfortunately, as a punt returner, he is there to do one thing and that one thing well, which is to catch the punt safely without dropping the ball. Everything else, yards gained after the catch...

    Is rugby your favourite sport?

Yeah, that's what I thought so too, but RL seems too one dimensional to me. I am sure there are subtleties that a fan who grew up with the sport would appreciate, but to me, it seems like bash into the defender 4 times, then kick. With American football, there's so much variety with throwing...

    Is rugby your favourite sport?

It's American football and NBA basketball for me in addition to rugby union. I don't like soccer, and RL does nothing for me. NHL hockey is pretty good too, although I usually only watch the playoffs.

    Note to heineke meyer.

I wonder if a "B" team (somewhat like the NZ Maori, although I concede that the comparison isn't quite accurate) consisting of black players would be a good way to give up and coming black players more exposure, especially at the international level, assuming that they hve a reasonable level of...

    Note to heineke meyer.

As an American, I watch the Bok team selection process with bemusement. I'll be the first to admit that my country has had its fair share of race issues. To address some of these wrongs, we have things like affirmative action, to give historically disadvantaged minorities a leg up in...

[2015 RWC] Final: New Zealand vs. Australia (31/10/2015)

Oh OK, I missed that. Living in the US, we have to skulk around the Knockturn Alleys of the Interwebz, looking for bootleg match videos. :D I just got one with the medal ceremony, so I'll have to look at it carefully. Thanks!

    The RWC CHAMPIONS gloating thread

As an American, my country does not have the rugby pedigree that you guys do (the Olympic gold notwithstanding) but I've been a player of limited ability and have always enjoyed watching rugby in addition to playing it. To me, the All Blacks represent everything that is beautiful about the...

[2015 RWC] Final: New Zealand vs. Australia (31/10/2015)

So, does Woodcock get a medal as well? I am sure Moody got one. I assume the IRB will give medals to everyone who played, even if they had to be replaced on the squad with another player.
