I want to say 'woohoo! 5 log points for WP!'...

Does that mean our first defeat of the season? Surely that would be too much of an upset especially at home.. not challenging here though! TBH though it would do wonders for the competition if the bottom 3 can get some wins; the bottom three wouldn't even climb one place if their log points were added up!!

Well regrettably I don't think the bottom 3 will win this weekend.

Only the Bulls are playing at home, and they are playing against the Lions who already smashed them this season.

The Bulls will also have to make a forced change at fullback because Jurgen Visser and Jesse Kriel are out with injuries. With that said, Tony Jantjies and Jacques-Louis Potgieter are fit again for selection, so maybe JLP will move to fullback.

You're probably right, Hein, as sad as that would be for the competition as a whole.

I'm a bit miffed with Senatla being out for us; he has been the revelation of our season so far. Just glad the ankle shouldn't keep him out overly long. The worst for me is u20 WP and Bok lock JD Shickerling breaking his neck (literally) against the u20 Bulls last week. A very promising player for both WP and Bok seniors. He's said he is dedicated to coming back to play rugby. I have to admire that, I mean the guy narrowly escaed paralysis. I really do hope the SARU comes down hard on head locks. Not even a citation so far though as far as I know.. just pathetic if you ask me.

Marvin Orie was cited yesterday, http://www.sport24.co.za/Rugby/Blue-Bulls-Under-21-lock-cited-20140901 and the Blue Bulls Rugby Union wished him a speedy recovery.

Senatla's injury looked very bad on tv. And I was surprised when he talked to the guys on Supersport after the game.

Hopefully JLP will be at 10 and King Pie Ulrich Beyers at 15. I don't rate Jantjies at all!

Did you guys see this article (it's in Afrikaans) http://www.beeld.com/sport/2014-09-02-bulle-nog-vyf-bly-in-top-liga

Loosely translated it boils down that the 6 Super Rugby Franchises' teams are guaranteed a spot in next year's Currie Cup Tournament. and that there will only be promotion/relegation matches if the Pumas and/or Griquas finish in the bottom 2 spots.

So if we look at the log as it currently stands, only the Griquas will play promotion/relegation.

Kings (assuming Bulls will pull up their socks during the course of the tournament) will be glad to hear that.

Frans Ludeke says that this weekend's game is the make or break game for this year's season.

I'm hopeful, but I just don't know...

Okay, All the teams are up!

why does Frans Ludeke always have to wait to last to name his damn squad!! geez!!

One week ban for Orie. Not sure how I feel about this. I don't think the break was 100% the fault of the headlock and at least in part due to the other shoulder charge but still I think they should've come down harder on the headlock; in rugby contact situations are by default dynamic and keeping a player in a head lock is just exceptionally dangerous simply because it's not just the two players and one can't predict outcomes. I hoped a tougher call would set something of a precedent and make an issue of what is an issue IMO.

I see Senatla out has meant we are making quiite a number of shifts in the backline... I know it's only the Kings but three changes in the backline is quite a lot though I like how it creates opportunities for Howard and Gedult possibly.

Lions not looking at their best either so maybe the Bulls have a good shot. It'd be pretty poor going into the half of the season with only 1 or 2 wins. How do you get your players motivated at that point?

Well, I hope the Bulls can pull through. I'm very curious in seeing how our new Backline shapes up. JJ back at 13, Ulengo on the wing and Beyers at the back. Along with JLP making his return should add some spark to the Blue Bulls. And if their forwards play like they did last week, we could just beat the Lions...

Just on the U/21 WP player breaking his neck, I see a lot of people are going ape **** about the short suspension and they do have a point but one has to remember that according to the rules of rugby, the seriousness of an injury doesn't mean a longer suspension.

Why does Ludeke persist with Rudy Paige? He is nothing more than a quota player.

Yeah, I'm with you on the Shickerling thing.

To me they made it a storm in a teacup. And from the footage I saw, I wouldn't even have sighted Orie. I honestly thought that the impact from the other player who came in first, was worse that Orie's action.

Having a person in a neck lock in the dynamic situation of 4 players going to ground is a recipe for breaking necks. I think the people calling out for a heavy suspension- well at least this is my view- is not Orie per se but the situation that needs a heavy sanction simply because of the danger of the act not the seriousness of the injury though the two are of course linked.

I know if it were my son I'd be physically sick if I were to read it called a storm in a tea cup and such.

Yeah I know. But to me Orie's action was a bit half-hearted, it didn't look to me like he wanted to put him in a head lock or hurt him in that section of his body.

I'm looking at it from a neutral perspective. Not as a father, a fan of any of the players, or as a doctor.

GG for the Bulls and about time too!

WP spanking the EP went a good ways to calm me after the Bok loss and Racing Metro getting schooled by Clermont.

Well, I was a nervous wreck by the time the Bulls ran onto the field.

With the Pumas "upsetting" the Cheetahs (I say upset, even though the Pumas are the second best team in this tournament), The Griquas clinching that narrow win, I was sure that it's going to be 3 in a row for the away teams...

Luckily the Blue Bulls showed that they can actually play rugby.

Dire, dire, dire. Not much more to add.
Wiehan Hay got 35 minutes before suffering an injury. Left with Wentzel and Lewies as our only fit second rows now...
