So apparently it would have been cheaper to settle than for the government to dig their heels in. Bearing in mind this is only going to skew ever further against the government in terms of cost efficiency and it shows this is nothing to do with economics and everything to do with dogma. Talking about penalties. This one is substantially more than £100.

If his total bill was £4.8 million and his penalty was 30%, which is included in that amount.

That means his bill was £3.7 million and the penalty was £1.1 million

So the equivalent bill is equal to the average UK annual salary of 145 nurses
