At my leaving lunch for work last year I remember getting into a bit of a discussion with one of my work colleagues who was trying to defend him and she was saying how his record on Covid wasn’t that bad and why he should remain PM and how he could not possibly have foreseen how bad it was going to be. This was a few months before he was forced to resign. The narcissists prayer:
That didn't happen.
And if it did, it wasn't that bad.
And if it was, that's not a big deal.
And if it is, that's not my fault.
And if it was, I didn't mean it.
And if I did, you deserved it
Now compare that to Johnson's justification for partygate. Spot any parallels? The only one not reached is that we deserved it.

From another ethnic minority (mixed race), who wasn't born in this country, I disagree pretty strongly when it comes to most people (though it will have been the case for some). From an ethnic minority, who was born and grown up in this country I can tell you it appears Boris being white and English (although born in the US) combined with his bumbling persona are the main reasons his supporters defend him and to give him more leeway.

I didn't say most people. I was referring to my perspective. And I was referring to those who still continue to support him. The 3 work colleagues I was referring to was an extremely small straw poll and not necessarily reflective of all English voters of Boris. But still English and in their 50s middle class. From another ethnic minority (mixed race), who wasn't born in this country, I disagree pretty strongly when it comes to most people (though it will have been the case for some).
I genuinely believe people who still defend him are blind to his faults because they subconsciously believe he is one of them so they give him more leeway and that is why they have been more forgiving of him even after the facts of his premiership.I genuinely think it was just a deference to perceived authority in a time of crisis, combined with a lack of actual interest in politics that may have been sparked by someone considerably more interesting than most, and with an undeniable charm.

Like always the Tories have a real issue with morality. Just because the rules they made allows them to do this doesn't make it moral. Pathetic human beings.Guardian article on

True. He’s earning more from the speech circuit and could no doubt top that up returning to writing his columns. If there's a byelection - will he bother fighting, or consider it too much effort?
Boris the battler, has never been in character for the lazy sod

Not sure on that, especially with Sunak as PM. He's become incredibly toxic and pushes more voters away than he brings in. Only his die-hard fans and supporters would want him back and they are fewer by the day.True. But like Trump he’s also power hungry, now he’s had a taste for it. He still believes he can return to be PM one day. Even if loses Uxbridge and Ruislip I think he would try for another safe seat. No doubt Tories will find another seat somewhere for him.

I think voters have incredibly short memories. He was a liar way before partygate, including his time as London mayor. There are many of his supporters who still back him despite partygate because he has that so called star dust which helped him win Brexit and a 80 seat majority for the Tories; and still don’t think he’s done much wrong. And Never discount how desperate the Tories can get during the next election If it comes down to the wire. Politics is ultimately about winning and power. Not sure on that, especially with Sunak as PM. He's become incredibly toxic and pushes more voters away than he brings in. True, but then his time as mayor only really Londoners and those interested in politics would have truly seen his true colours. I doubt the wider electorate paid much attention other than some publicity stunts. Partygate exposed him to the entire nation and he can't wash it off as easily.I think voters have incredibly short memories. He was a liar way before partygate, including his time as London mayor. Him being fired from his job as an editor and losing his position as an MP for lying was also made public when he ran for PM, people of this country are just ******* idiots and would prefer a useless, malicious clown over a competent but dull person.True, but then his time as mayor only really Londoners and those interested in politics would have truly seen his true colours.
