A Political Thread pt. 2

Oh yeah absolutely, the mask has been slipping for a good while now and it's fully off with this:

There's no way anyone can claim he's "just asking questions" anymore

The world's biggest interview podcaster being the most impressionable guy on the planet is hilarious.

If anyone ever told me that they listened to Elon Musk for 158 minutes, I think I'd immediately go home and cry for them.

I find it quite funny how those on the right live to claim the left are blind sheep and yet you look at all the most popular programs in the USA, they are Fox for "news" and then things like Alex Jones, Rush Limbaugh, Joe Rogan etc. They gravitate en masse to a select group of people who tell them exactly what to think. The left simply doesn't have the equivalent to anywhere near the same scale.

This is part of the reason why conspiracies are sticking so much on the far right, all they're information is coming from fundamentally corrupt sources and they are all listening to and watching those same sources. They are getting their information all from the same place.

Even if Harris wins, the far right in the USA, and to a lesser degree here, had become so indoctrinated I don't think they can be deprogrammed. We will just be looking at yet another 4 years of escalating rhetoric. I think we have now been pushed beyond the point of no return, whoever wins I think there is going to be a period of political violence in the USA that may then be replicated by other far right actors across the developed world. It seems the lessons of WW2 and letting these ideologues get their own way has not been learned.

I have been listening recently to a number of podcasts about the American civil war and it's interesting that slave owning states in the 1830s tended to see slavery as a necessary evil and many in the "northern" slavery states had gotten rid of their slaves (mainly because cotton was a soil hungry crop) selling them down the river to the deep South. It's only when there became a real abolitionist movement in the North that all of a sudden it becomes an issue that ends up sparking a civil war.

I don't know how Americans are going to vote and apart from the outcome for Ukraine I don't really care but they are on a very dark path now and hero worshipping people like Musk and Trump will only lead to sorrow IMO.

It's like the Dominion/Fox lawsuit. $800 million Fox had to pay out. Show me anywhere on the left that is even in the same universe of unhinged craziness.

this is my first time voting in a relatively safe blue state so I don't have the election fever. However, I've travelled to PA for rugby and it's unhinged.

Turned on to see the Channel 4 coverage of the US election, and it's Boris Johnson.

Disappointing

Dems seem worried, early exit polls suggesting independents who went Biden last time have swapped to Trump, hopefully the youth have turned out in numbers to balance it out

Don't want to wake up to a Trump presidency tomorrow

Don't trust the American youth - the boys have swung very much to the right.
It's the young ladies specifically, we need out voting.

I've just switched on, and it's not looking clever at the moment - got to hope in that Red Mirage being a significant one.
How the hell is it even close? I just don't understand people looking at Donald Trump and thinking "yeah, that's what I want... screw democracy" (the answer, of course, is that they only see such a hugely skewed version of reality, through fox news and twitter)
