A Political Thread pt. 2

By extension Scotland can say the relationship Britain has with the world has fundamentally changed as so they can have a 2nd.
Scotland were sold a future within the EU if they remained part of the UK - and explicitly told they would have to apply for EU membership as a compeltely fresh application if they did leave.

So turning around literally a couple of years later and pulling them out of the EU very much is a fundamental change.

Yeah, you could argue the Brexit referendum. But everyone with 2+ brain cells knew the Brexiteers were selling a diet of kool-aid and rainbows. No fundamental change - except to the extremely thick who thought the empire would have taken over half the world again by now.

I see our resident mod;s MP opened his big mouth by showing he can't tell offering a job to your mistress is an even bigger conflict of interest than your spouse.

I am really amazed at how the Conservatives and their media are portraying the strikes as Labours fault

The Tories have a catalogue of go to rebuttals and excuses. When Starmer challenged them on rising COVID case numbers and deaths, Johnson responded by accusing him of 'running down the NHS' or 'running down Britain'. They try and position themselves as the good guy/on the side of the people and won't take any responsibility even though they're in Govt.

"People are starting to like us again, quick open up twitter"
Its always complicated because they are trying to sell themselves to both sets of voters. For example in places without a strong union background (like Tiverton and Honiton) its very much seen with the miners strikes of the 80's the unions were as bad as the government, so you have to kind of look through from a very weird both sides lens. If they came out pro-union they'd probably scupper any chances in the by-election and potentially further target seats.

Bit better from Starmer, hammering home the crass hypocrisy and the Nero fiddling as Rome burned attitude of the Tories.

The UK bill of human rights.
Probably the only bill of rights in history that reduces human rights, and makes it harder to claim them.
Certainly a misunderstanding that human rights are human rights, not Britisher rights, whilst foreigners are less human...

Lets completely misunderstand the point of having technical standards!

Ignoring the fact that we didn't leave before it "mandated" the type of chargers, as shown by the fact there are only 2 chargers now as opposed to every manufacturer having their own charger in the past. This backwards cretin probably still uses a rotary phone or has nanny do it for him though so wouldn't expect him to notice that little detail either.

The USA is genuinely lurching towards something very very dangerous, these people have completely taken leave of their senses and the language they are using and the sort of concepts they happily float are the sort of extremists. Republicans have gone over the edge now, they are beyond redemption as long as they keep their current lot and their current platforms. The crazy started with the tea party movement and now the crazies have fully taken over. Remaining sane Republicans need to either grow a spine and oppose these lunatics or watch the USA tear itself apart. Russia and China must be sitting back laughing watching the west tear itself apart as all the right wing lunatics destroy the countries they claim to love from the inside.

Texas was already insane and half this country was already gone to begin with. Sane republicans are just becoming the conservative wing of the Democratic Party or giving in to the MAGA heads. It's that or give up on politics.

The decline of preeminent super powers and/or regions is inexorable and cyclical. It happened to Egypt, Greece and Italy. The Islamic Golden Age tarnished in time. So it goes with the West. One only needs to observe the lack of meaningful discourse nowadays, stemming from an inability to think critically, to know that the West is terminal. Any improvements to be made are merely palliative.

Education and personal study is ridiculed and demonised (outside of the lucrative spinner of herding kids into universities to complete worthless degrees, emerging with little else but the yoke of debt and peculiar desire to see the immolation of any public speaker with an opinion contrary to their own).

The Far-East has long been on the ascendancy. Regardless of whether their economies are performing or sluggish, the gulf in the mentalities of the East and West are massive. And I don't think the mentality of the East has been ameliorated by American influencers either.

This breed of Republican is emblematic of a country in the death throes, gasping for breath as a particularly aggressive hyper-capitalist cancer ravages its body. They know how to drive a wedge - they learnt well from Rove.

Things are only going to get worse in the West with the paucity of resources. We're all feeling the pinch. But this transition of regional dominance is going to be far more bloody. Neo-colonialist tendencies and entitlement dies hard.

Meanwhile, I'm going to take my daughter to her Sports Day tomorrow. I'm going to try not to think about what a **** inheritance she faces.
