No it's not just tourism but it's the main one I see and hear from royalists with regards to them bringing in money. I agree we'll likely never know mainly due to the fact they won't be going anywhere in our lifetimes.
Agreed it's very hard to quantify and tourism is definitely just one part of it. Much of the land owned by the Royals isn't even registered at the Land Registry because it was never bought legitimately when they seized it many moons ago. They sent the heavies in and butchered any residents who refused to leave. You then look at modern day cash grabs like that new wind farm off the south coast of England that sees a load of income go straight to the crown. The crown also inherits the estate of any UK citizen who dies without any living relatives and a will.
Wealth inequality is biggest root cause of societal problems in this country but this is never the point of focus because the establishment would rather everyone talk about migrants staying in a Holiday Inn, TV adverts or Rachel's rental license.
