Adrian Lewis survived a late fightback by Gary Anderson to defeat the Scot 7-5 and be crowned PDC world champion for the first time.
Lewis, 25, was never behind in the contest and hit a stunning nine-dart finish in the opening set, the first man to achieve it in a world final.
"I think I deserve it," he said. "I need to push on from this."
The win represents Lewis's first major ***le and pushed him up to second in the world rankings behind Phil Taylor.
Lewis, who takes home £200,000 for the win, becomes just the fifth player to be crowned champion since the inception of the PDC event in 1994.
Despite dropping the opening leg of the match, Lewis blew Anderson away in a frenetic first set. The man from Stoke-on-Trent produced a sensational nine dart finish in the third leg, before before clinching the opener 3-1.
