Was a 5 second piece of commentary during the Blues v Toulon game this weekend that brightened up my year....

Alain Rolland is to retire as a referee at the end of the year.

Good riddance! Shame it wasnt 4 or 5 years earlier.

Not a popular man maybe, but I can think of many refs a great deal worse.

Eh, it's hard to stay on the international stage for any great length of time without having large amounts of the rugby community unhappy at you. Got a RWC final, must have been doing something right.

I liked him, spoke French. It's a scandal that more top end refs don't.
