Ellis sent for tests after head knock

Otago centre Brett Mather and Counties prop Simon Lemalu have both been cited for incidents that took place in two Air New Zealand Cup matches over the weekend.

Mather's alleged dangerous tackle on Canterbury's Andy Ellis left the All Black with serious concussion, making him a slight doubt for the World Cup next month.

Lemalu has been cited for allegedly striking during an alleged dangerous tackle on North Harbour fly-half Tusi Pisi in the match between Counties Manukau and North Harbour at Mt Smart Stadium, Auckland, on Friday, 10 August.

Lemalu and Mather will appear in two separate judicial hearings at the New Zealand Rugby Union offices in Wellington on Wednesday 15 August.

Am I the only one jumping for shear delight? I know the chances are slim, but bring back Weepu I say :) .

andrew ellis is the future 9 of new zealand, he's marshall reincarnated! (mind you marshall isnt dead of course  )

he's 100 times better than michelin man piri weepu.

i found weepu doing his new job!!

Sounds like Cowan is doing some goos things in the ANZC. Although Weepu does have the experience, but wonder if he is not full of negative energy after being dropped.

Hope Ellis comes right. And Somerville!!

They dropped Piri cause he's Maori they did it to Norm Berryman, Christian Cullen, Frank Bunce and now Piri's the latest victim bloody racialist I say lol.

Whatever Ellis' skills, he is unproven. It's ridiculous to drop someone of Piri's experience on the basis of form when Ellis never performed for the ABs and supposedly shined for the Jnrs(imho he was only average).
The difference in intensity between the 2 levels can't be compared. You can't justify taking 2 backup halfbacks with single digit test caps when you have an experienced player like Weepu who is showing better form than Ellis in the NPC and performed on par with or better than Kellewanker in the trinations.

ive said it once and ill say it again... ELLIS IS RUBBISH!!!
he cant even hold onto the Canterbury number 9 jearsey over Kevin Senio yet people are talking about him being an all black... GET YOUR RED AND BLACK BLINKERS OFF!!!

as for cowan... while i think hes rubbish too... hes alot more viable than Ellis. but stuffed if im gonna pick a guy that was made to look like a biarch by rookie.... deadset... John harts nephew must think rugby is a piece of **** after 5 minutes against that shithouse former all black...

the only reason why weepu was dropped was because of his attitude. it would have to be the only reason... theres nothing between Weepu and Kelleher form wise and Ellis and Cowan have been playing against a bunch of village teams in the pacifc nations cup. he was also the only reconditioned all black not to make the squad... even sommerville got the nod after playing a couple of club games and 1 ANZ Cup game.

it has nothing todo with race though....

the more i look at that comment, the more ****** i am. pardon the language here everyone but what the f*** are u trying to prove by calling the pac islanders village teams? that they are poor? that they live in straw huts? that they climb coconut trees and prance around bonfires chanting "woo ga shagga"? I respect the Pac nations the most because they make do with what they have, which is almost nothing, and yet they still are always up playing good quality rugby. poor, or bumpkin-like as these people maybe, they've produced unparalleld talent like serevi, caucau and lima. which RICH nation has has a player that has the durability of lima? every single one have tem has gone home crying about having to wake up in the morning with tweaks here and there? then what about the islanders? not so much medical options then? so they might have to retire with so much more problems like health state being so much worse than those RICH nations. after retiring, how're they going to support their family? coconuts won't get your far. they're not offered jobs as pundits or head coach.

what the bloody hell

what kind of stupid a$% reason is that?!?! ellis is FAR better than weepu

[/b]

I know it isn't a racial thing I was just seeing what sort of reaction people would take. But you must be smokin da meanest if you think Ellis is better than Weepu. I'd prefer Cowan over Ellis and Piri's better than both of them and thats just being real.

i know weepu has boatloads of exp compared to the other two. but some how i feel ellis is a better option if onl slightly. can't quite put my finger on what though. but weepu with those dumb corn rows! man that would have warranted exclusion alone :p

I'm not sure why everyone seems to love Piri Weepu - sure he was impressive when he came onto the scene a few years back, but he has done nothing in the last couple of years to warrant inclusion in the All Blacks. Last year he ate copious amounts of pies* and ended up waddling around the field like a duck through most of the year including the end of year tour.

He played well in one NPC game when Wellington slaughtered Otago, but to be fair I'm sure half the posters on this forum could have looked good playing halfback in that game against a hopeless Otago team. And where was Piri the next week when the Wellington team lost to Hawkes Bay? It was a wet day and in such a situation a halfbacks performance is crucial, and he had a poor game....

So I'm not surprised that he has been replaced. The inclusion of Ellis over Cowan was purely on Pacific Nations Cup form. Cowan would have been ahead of him based on Super 14 form (by quite a long way), but Ellis played much better than him in every game in the Pacific Nations, either when coming off the bench or when starting. Ellis seemed to set the backline going so much better than Cowan, I don't think anyone who seriously watched all of the Pacific Nations Cup games would suggest that Cowan should be in ahead of Ellis.

Anyway its the third halfback position in the squad so whoever was chosen is hardly going to be starting in crucial world cup games...
