Argentina Super Rugby Team 2016 - Los Jaguares

What about the missing players? I guess the SR franchise should have around 38 or 39 players, am I right? At present time, we have only 29 players and SR stars on February.

The Stormers played 2015 with a squad of 42 players but its not necessary as such and of course not all those players saw game time despite the Stormers suffering a raft of injuries. That said you'd probably want at least ~36 players just for that extra depth in specialist positions than what one would expect from say a RWC test squad simply because its a much longer tournament.

I'd say your expectations of 38/39 is quite reasonable.

The SA's franchises have the larger squads. The Aussie franchises only have something like 33/34 players. So 39 players is a good number for the competition.

Los Jaguares are going to smash all the South African teams :p

I actually tend to agree. The only SA team in their pool worth anything at the moment is the Lions.

We are having enough difficulty filling 5 SR sides seeing as exactly (close enough) half our pro players are overseas and now we have 6 sides to contend with and we aren't as organized top down as the NZRU.

Its easy enough for the SA franchizes to have large squads seeing as they are basicaly the provinces so have access to junior provincial players and players that play in the Vodacom Cup and Currie Cup. I agree this is not necessary but it can come in handy if the injury curse strikes. I remember in 2014 (or was it 2013 already?) the Stormers went through 6 different flyhalves.

I share the sentiment about the Argentinian team coming top of their pool. I just realized something more fun though... Some South African teams (such as the Stormers) will be playing Super Rugby next year in four different continents, In four very different time zones.

At the risk of going off topic that had me crying over the ridiculousness of this format and SARU's incompetence. One of the main reasons for the revised format was travel. Well, we ended up having more of it somehow!

Since travel is seemingly not a factor I just wish we could get another revision and go back to a round robin where every team plays every other team once.

Back on topic. I see easy points for the Jaguars in-pool apart from the Lions. I think the Lions will actually relish playing the Jaguares as I expect a wide game from the Argentine side if the recent endeavours of the national side is any indication as to how they will try to play? They do face the NZ sides rather than the Aus sides though.

Three teams from the SA conferences will go on to the knock-outs. I see them as being the Stormers and Bulls and I can't split the Lions and Jaguares. I do think that the Stormers/Bulls conference will be the one with two finalists; just 'easier' match-ups.

It was confirmed that CASI's stadium will be used for Los Jaguares' matches. Hope I can get tickets since it will only hold 10 thousand people.

Hosting in CASI stadium is a very stupid idea! they will destroy the club just to make a stupid 10k stand of tubes!

Just use a football stadium and forget about these dumb, half-assed projects ffs. Rotate between Velez and La Plata according to schedule availability and just leave the rugby clubs alone.

I'm really looking forward to this. Questions though, and please forgive my spelling.
It's been said here they are called LOS JAGUARS. I'm assuming "LOS" means "the"??
So it's just "the jaguars" not the "Buonos Aires Jaguars"??
Also can anyone confirm the shirt colors, i think i read here they'll be in jaguar print??
Thanks in advance

There are little information about the shirt. First some sources said the jersey will be a jaguar print, then others sources said the jersey will be white or blue. So we aren't sure about it.

And yes, the name is The Jaguars or Los Jaguares in Spanish

The team is supposed to be called Los Jaguares, but there has been no official confirmation of that yet. The same happens with the shirt colours, but the rumour about the jaguar print is true.

I found this on Twitter:

It seems someone saw it at INPI, which is basically the Argentine entity that deals with copyright.

Any Argentina fans who saw the Barbarians v Argentina last night. I noticed that there were quite a few regular Argentina players missing (e.g. Imhoff, Fernandez-Lobbe, Hernandez, Leguizamon, Bosch) and a few players I haven't seen before; Boffelli, Moyano-Joya,

Was that team the basis of Los Jaguares, because if so, they look like they will be a force to be reckoned within next year.

As a matter of fact it was! Hernandez, Creevy, Tuculet and Leguizamon will be playing in that team too.

I agree and was thinking that with their top players included, they will be a real handful in the SR and Internationallly!

Are there more quality players following through behind this squad to refresh the squad following inevitable retirements and injuries over the next couple of years? If so, are they playing in Argentina or abroad?

I am hearing conflicting suggestions about the future selection policy of Los Pumas. On the one hand, some are saying that they will not be selecting any players who have contracts with European clubs from 2016 onwards, so we won't be seeing players like Juan Martín Fernández Lobbe, Marcos Ayerza, Juan Imhoff, and Juan Martin Hernandez, and on the other hand, I am hearing that players who already have current contracts in Europe will still be selected, but any who renew their contracts to European clubs will be excluded from that point on.

Any Pumas fans care to comment.

I understand the only players that can be selected for the Pumas from now one are the ones playing in SR or in Argentine local rugby.

It has been stated very clearly that Fernandez Lobbe, Ayerza and Imhoff would not be eligible for Pumas.

Hernandez actually signed for Jaguares.

This is probably the only down side from the Jaguares for the Pumas: the top tier playing minutes for Pumas players will be limited to the Jaguares, wich means that the second choice for the Pumas in, say, Fly Half, would be the substitute Jaguares Fly Half (meaning he had little playing time during the calendar) or a Fly Half from the local league (URBA or other, meaning he is facing lower opposition).

An exception seems to be Cubelli, who has signed for a Aus franchise if I'm not mistaken. That's a path that will have to be more travelled in the future, with Argentinian players signing for other SR franchises, or we'll risk having little depth at international tournaments.

Anyone has any idea when will the team, jersey and staff be presented? I thought that was going to happen today. :(

Edit: btw...
