Ashton in La La Land

However, Ashton has backed his side to respond to the defeat. "The history of this England team is to bounce back in adversity," he said. "We have been in this situation before with England. You just focus on the processes of what we have to do.

"I have every confidence they will bounce back against Ireland [on Saturday]. They have to - it is as simple as that. We are all in this together. We thought we had made some pretty good strides last time out against France, and that is why it is so frustrating."

Is it me, or is this attitude just not helping? Surely the coach should be admitting that "bouncing back in adversity" is not what a national side should be doing.

The players need to do what they did at the World Cup and take control of things for themselves. Trouble is... who's left in the squad that could make that call? Vickery is Ashton's man and Wilkinson can barely control his own game at the minute
If ever England needed a leader it's now!

That is so true Vambo, leadership has to come from the top, its not so its time for a change. Vickery is certainly no Johnson or Dallaglio and those are the sort of hard nosed guys you need. Maybe we need to put a younger man in as captain and stick with him. Its a shame that Rees is off form as apparently he was a superb leader of England teams throughout the different age levels. Perhaps we have to go with Haskell as he is young and a definate starter if fit.

A history of bouncing back? Last time England lost up here they went on to equal their longest ever loosing streak!

And Ashton should know all about that - thats why he was appointed manager!
