I am 14 this year , have been playing rugby for two years. A loosehead prop. I was wondering does asthma affects your training or matches? Because quite alot of time when i do a crash move. I got short breath and breathe heavily. Have been doing lots and lots of fitness. But it dosen't seems to improve. need advice.

Like any other form of exercise with asthma, you simply have to be careful and know your own limits when doing anything.

I've played alongside a fair few team-mated who had asthma, they usually had a parent/friend make sure an inhaler was close to hand. Medics should always have your inhaler if there's one on duty.

I myself was on the touchline breathing heavily too but more because I'm really unfit! Nothing much you can do unless there's some other form of increasing your tolerance before an attack happens.

If one does, simply get the hell out of there.

Thank you for your answer :) , but i have not had an attack for at least 5-8 years already. But i still don't know why i still breathe heavily.

My town has one of the highest rates of asthma going allegedly because of the mushroom farm a few miles away , as a result there are about 8 - 9 guys with asthma on the team but all they really require is a coach to have their inhaler ready at the touchline know your limits and be safe mate.

I have a mild form of asthma where in summer when there is high pollen counts if I do exercise outside I can get asthma attacks but it hasn't affected me (as it seems I no longer have those symptoms for around 2-3 years) but when I did it didnt affect me at all just made sure I had my asthma pump nearby if I needed it so it stayed with the coach or parent on the sidelines etc.
