'At least 73' killed in Egypt football violence

Not being funny but Egyptian football and noteably al-Ahly's Ultra's are notroriously known for creating violence at games and its without a suprise that something like this was going to happen at somepoint. The country is still in a poor shape. Police are to afraid of policing for fear of a backlash.

It's absolutely sickening. There's a horrific image on twitter of a dead supporter with his eyes gouged out.

This is absolute madness... Its only a game!

The people that do this care nothing for the sport it is perputratored in, they are just vile cretins who seek an avenue to express their hatred and vileness. For these particulars they use football 'loyalty' to express it.

I have no sympathy for the any individuals that actively participated in this (trying to hurt others) and died as a result, only their families. It really is a sad thought that the world is better off without some of them. :(

Anyone know is this linked tp previous trounles in Egypt over political problems?

Yes it is, the lack of Police presence is directly linked to the post Mubarak state, as well the activities of the Al-Ayha Ultras link them to much of the violence in the revolution.

al-Ahly ;)

Reminiscent of the Dinamo Zagreb vs Red Star riot. That ended badly.

Appalling. Nobody should go to a football match and not come home.

Al-Ahly players Mohamed Aboutrika and Mohamed Barakat have retired immediately from playing football. Emad Moteab is retiring until the mess is sorted out.
