Can World Rugby really not find anyone more appropriate to chaperone the World Cup trophy to Romania than Ronan O'Gara? Really truly a bizarre and embarrassing choice.

Played in three world cups, 4th highest international point score of all time, grand slam winner and one of the best European club players of all time... BUT Psychic Duck dislikes him, truly awful by World rugby.

You seriously think is the sort of person you want to be associating with the Rugby World Cup trophy?

I could easily stick up a picture of him scoring the winning drop goal of the '09 six nations or one of the penalties against Australia in '11. This thread is just having a pointless go...

As was clearly stated. ROG has a strong history in World Cup. European players like him are more known in that part than retired Southern Hemisphere players and DHL had a say too and were part of ROG been selected. He's one of the best known guys in that area due to his time as a top name in the club game in Europe and his international time. He's very highly rated and known too in France for his coaching. So all round he's actually an obvious choice as he was available and probably flexible with time.

Should we be looking for someone who looks better jumping off a trampoline? Not sure how that photo is supposed to be showing O'Gara's incapability.

He achieved a lot in his career and he isn't going to tarnish rugby's reputation in Romania.. Also you have to wonder how many people are free to go on these trips.

He had a 100% success rate in bottling it at World Cups, probably one of the least successful players in the tournament's history.

There's no player worse to represent the values, tradition and history of the tournament. Romania must have really ticked off someone at World Rugby HQ to deserve a visit from Ronan O'Gara. Other nations on the tour got real legends. This is an embarrassment and an insult.

I agree with psychic, we should have sent one of those many Welsh guys who have an outstanding history of being knocked out in the pool stages.. someone like Shane Williams, or Mark Ring.

you know, guys who delivered. ;)

I thought they would've just left the cup in NZ, that's where it's heading after the tournament any way isn't it?:D:D:D

Lol, it's not worth getting that worked up over. I don't understand what the problem is? He's pretty 'establishment' in that he is well known, been around for awhile, done plenty of awesome things in rugby and has contributed greatly to the game. Not every visiting player is going to have done something like Wilkinson in 2003. Not sure what you expect really.

Psychic Duck's sourness towards Rog is reaching farcical levels.

Should've sent Balshaw.

You mean that blond haired guy with the lisp sitting as to show off his "tackle" on the Rugby Club last night who has settled in God's own Country after his very successful spell at Biarritz? Why would he want to go to Romania when he can enjoy the Basque country with the odd, well paid, spots on British TV when there is a French angle to it?!!!
