G'day all!

I'm new here. My names Brendon and I'm from Australia. I'm 19years old and have played rugby for the past 8 years. I play anywhere in the front row, but specialise in loosehead prop.

Now my question to you wise folk here in the UK and Europe, I'm chasing some boots, preferably screw in stud type and was after some suggestions. I will most likely be purchasing from rugbyprodirect as they seem to have the largest range I've ever seen in rugby boots. We in Australia basically have sweet frig all to choose from in the way of brands and styles. Basically we have Nike, Puma and Adidas. Very few retailers carry anything else except the occassional Asics boot and very few stores carry screw in style boots, its all moulded "blades" as we call them hear in Australia. And our prices are absolutely exhorbitant! 100AUD for the very bottom of the range boots from Adidas and Nike..

Now I've already had a look on rugbyprodirect.com and have found some boots that I like the look of and I also like the style, and even better... THE PRICE. Now I'd like some opinions/advice on whether these boots would be suitable for a bloke about 5ft 11. 115kg and a prop with an exceptionally wide foot. Any other recommendations and experience will be welcomed.

These are the main ones I have been looking at. I like the Under Armour and the Mizuno the most, as you get 2 boots, soft and hard ground for the price of a single pair of boots over here. Our field conditions vary amazingly over here. One week the field may be nice and soft, the next it's as hard as rock. So I think the "Pro packs" are great for what I am chasing.

But any and all suggestions are extremely welcomed.

Cheers.

Brendo

Preference is to an 8 stud. But 6 is fine as well. It's more so width and fit I'm chasing. Number of studs not so much of a worry. Being a prop though 8 is more preferential

forget the under armours and go for something more rugby specific. of the ones you put up i would go for the optimums. as a fellow front rower i usually go for kooga, canterbury gilbert or mitre as they are rugby specific and generally wider fitting

I'm a front row player too (Like you primarily a 1) and Mizuno boots have always been good for me. I don't have wide feet so I can't comment on the fit, but they're hard wearing and comfortable. Canterbury boots tend to be a bit too heavy for my taste, and the one pair of Adidas rugby boots I had tore apart within a month of having them. I'd reccomend the mizunos though.

I'm wearing american football boots at the minute, they're pretty great for mid-to hard ground and are awesome in the scrum, since they're made for linemen that play alot on their toes, like you would in a scrum. Really awful in soft ground though and since they're moulded blades/studs it means I have to have two pairs of boots.

i dont know much about rugby boots but i know an extensive amount about football boots. I agree with the there real good for mid to hard ground the screw in spikes are 10 times better the molded blades, i played as a lineman on both side and they allow you to drive with quite a bit of force (off the line) also as you would in a scrum. If you on soft ground they do ok but if your in the mud you can have an advantage for people i don't know if it is aloud in rugby but they make spikes that a 1 and 3/4 inches long that stick in mud and i bet real soft ground very well, like i said i don't know if there legal but they work extremely well. the 1 and 3/4 inch spikes take a bit of time to get used to.

Hi all, I'm new here, I've been playing rugby for 17 years now and gone through all manner of boots, and this season boots needed replacing again, I've had Nike Mark Low for the last few years, really comfy boot, but no longer in production, This season I've bough the new Adidas Flankers and couldn't be happier, leather is soft, much lighter than their previous incarnations and cheap to boot (pardon the pun), may be worth a look and pretty good prices. I also managed to pick a pair of Predator RX's for 80 quid on ebay, Not a prop boot I know but so comfortable and at that price I couldn't resist, so maybe ebay is worth a look, another excellent one is lovell rugby
