No, they really did not. I mean they told us there would be a lockdown three days in advance but not many people thought that they would ban alcohol and tobacco. You should see the smokers they are going crazy. The black market has shot up immensely. You could find alcohol on the black market about a week after the ban but the police and Army cracked down heavily on illegal trade. Some bottle stores were looted etc. Now, basically no one can get alcohol. They made it illegal to brew it yourself. This article show how they even went to houses and destoryed home brews, then they thought while they were at it they would also throw away the food these people were making. its horrifying as these people dont have much food, many go to bed hungry because they are not getting money since the economy is shut down. Do yourself a favour and go check the images in this link below. https://www.thesouthafrican.com/news/is-homemade-beer-banned-illegal-during-lockdown/ Also, the transport of alcohol is illegal so the breweries can't even transport their produce to cold storage facilities, now millions of litres of beer are going stale. People still find cigarettes on the black market, generally at the corner stores run by Pakistani men and woman. But the idea from the government was to only allow essential goods, and they said alcohol will make people beat each other in confinement and cigarettes is not good for coronavirus. People became more ****** about this then they did about the actual lockdown. In fact people widely supported the lockdown and commended the government, but their draconian measures really turned opinion very rapidly. look at the American alcohol ban years ago, it just went underground.
