In an effort to repeat their 1999 World Cup success John Connolly has decided to select the exact same 30 players that went to Wales 8 years ago.

Although many of the following players have been retired for a long time, Connolly feels that their experience will guarantee success.

Forwards: John Eales (capt), Phil Kearns, Toutai Kefu, Patricio Noriega, Andrew Blades, Dan Crowley, Matt Cockbain, Mark Connors, Michael Foley, Owen Finegan, David Giffin, Richard Harry, Jeremy Paul, Tom Bowman, Tiaan Strauss, David Wilson, Jim Williams.

Backs: Rod Kafer, Stephen Larkham, Chris Latham, Jason Little, Joe Roff, Scott Staniforth, Ben Tune Matthew Burke, George Gregan, Nathan Grey, Daniel Herbert, Tim Horan, and Chris Whitaker.

Connolly was hesitant about adding Jeremy Paul to the squad but with Rod Macqueen being appointed coach solely for the World Cup there shouldn't be any issues.

This is wind up right?

I thought that John Connolly was meant to bring a breath of fresh air to Australian rugby!

hehe yeah pisstake, but it brings back memories.... good memories :D

and after hearing the news, Graham Henry has decided to do the same and bring back some legendary All Blacks to bolster his current squad.

Forwards:

Olo Brown, Tony Woodcock, Carl Hayman, Kees Meeuws, Sean Fitzpatrick, Keven Mealamu, Anton Oliver, Chris Jack, Ali Williams, Keith Robinson, Colin Meads [C], Jerry Collins, Michael Jones, Richard McCaw, Josh Kronfeld, Zinzan Brooke, Rodney So'oialo

Backs:

Note: Michael Jones will have the dubious task of playing for the ABs while at the same time coaching the Manu Samoa.

Seems the quality of matches from '98 is better than what we're seeing at the moment

The funny thing is that John Connolly actually did call up one of those players in to the squad. 34 year old second rower Matt Cockbain.

While he's at it, why hasn't he given Totai Kefu a call up. Probably still the best Australian No.8. By all accounts he's been tearing them apart in Japan.
