Rugby Canada released a preliminary roster of players that will form the squad at various points of the summer, sadly the list is lacking a little specifics about what comps the players will be involved in, though it was mentioned that Pritchard, Cudmore, Sinclair and Van De Merwe will be unavailable for the first USA game along with Trainor being unavailable till the RWCQ's due to a broken ankle.

Any players Irish fans should look out for that wouldn't be known over here?

Any players Irish fans should look out for that wouldn't be known over here?

The entire team barring Cudmore....:D

Seriously though.

Tyler Ardron and Jeff Hassler are two names that I think will really get some more exposure this summer, they both played well in the last ARC and in November for Canada. Ardron might get a start vs. Ireland though I think both will be more likely coming off the bench as impact subs. I'm not 100% sure who will be available for the Ireland game so I can't give you an entirely accurate lineup for what will be like that game, but I'll edit in what I'd like to see as our best possible side for the game.

(This is a HIGHLY conjectural side, availability will effect the final choices as will form through the PNC it's also a side I would LIKE to see not nessecarily what Crowley will choose)

1. Hubert Buydens
2. Ryan Hamilton
3. Andrew Tieddemann(or Marshall if the coaches think he won't get into discipline trouble)
4. Jebb Sinclair (hate to use him here but we are low on Locks)
5. Jamie Cudmore (If available, if not possibly Hotson or Beukeboom would be a massive boost for the team if Cudmore comes out)
6. Adam Kleeberger (If in game shape this is a HUGE question mark though since Kleebs only just got back into playing and training, if not lots of choices like Dala, O'Toole etc. )
7. Tyler Ardron (possibly flipped with Carpenter)
8. Aaron Carpenter
9. Sean White (On a short leash, Wilson or Mack if White has a poor PNC)
10. Connor Braid (Weak spot at moment for Canada, tons of prospects coming up but all 1-2 years away, Evans could possibly be used here as well Hirayama is an option)
11. James Pritchard (The entire backline has an inordinate number of possible combinations since every single one of the Canadian backs can play multiple positions, 11-15 are situational choices)
12. Phil Mackenzie
13. DTH Van De Merwe
14. Taylor Paris (Or Hassler....as Psychic pointed out)
15. Matt Evans

16. Ray Barkwill
17. Jason Marshall (or Tiedemann whoever dosen't start)
18. Doug Wooldridge( or Dolezel, hopefully they won't be needed for long since neither is really an international level prop)
19. Tyler Hotson
20. Chauncey O'Toole
21. Phil Mack ( Or Wilson)
22. Harry Jones or Nathan Hirayama (unless Crowley is willing to have Evans slot into #10 in which case this spot can be used for whatever is the best possibly back)
23. Jeff Hassler( unless a utility back is needed in which case Hearn can play here)

Don't worry I don't think we're that ignorant about Canda...just. :D

Cudmore is lucky PO'Cs not going ;)

I'm going to rate Cudmore's chances of playing against Ireland at about 35-40%, unless Clermont get shocked this upcoming weekend, I think he'll most likely only turn out for the RWCQ's.

And don't worry BG 8 I was just teasing, DTH, Kleeberger and to a lesser degree Mackenzie and Sinclair are fairly well known ( some of the team will be known to those that watched Canada's RWC games), but with Ireland not having a 7's side I think many of the Canadian players will be less well known to Irish fans than they are to many other countries fan bases.

Edit: On a humourous aside I tweeted Rugby Canada earlier today asking where the heck the summer roster was!!! Than two hours later got my wish LMFAO!!!

Hassler should be ahead of Paris. Other than that spot on. Shame Sinclair has to play lock. I think perhaps Cam Pierce could get a chance as lock options aren't of the level of before, and he was supposed to be Cudmore's apprentice in the Clermont setup. Players like him will get chances considering the tight schedule in the PNC which is a pretty devalued tournament anyway.

I think Paris vs. Hassler will be a situational choice, Hassler is a much more physical player with a straight ahead running style, similar to a gridiron back(which he used to be) while Paris is more of a darting runner and is probably the more technically skilled of the two. If Ireland puts out a physical backline I would prefer Hassler, I like them both and Crowley usually makes the right choice in these cases.

I think will see a lot of the younger guys in the PNC( agree with you on Pierce an exciting prospect), I expect the game next weekend to feature an especially experimental lineup, the Japan game is also likely to feature some lesser known players due to the shocking lack of rest Canada will face between the Ireland game and that contest.

Hassler looks for work and comes into the game. Paris just hangs out on the wing and you won't notice him if you don't have the ball or others don't create for him. Pity about Trainor's injury btw.

Yeah it's a blow, he would have started at #12 and Mackenzie at #14 with Hassler/Paris/Hearn et al. moving to the bench, hopefully he'll be back for the RWCQ's. It's a testament to the growing strength of Canadian backs in general that we have some decent players that can jump in, if only we had the forwards we had 10 years ago!

Is this guy a French Canadian?

Mostly French, he has a Canadian passport with ancestry routed in Quebec, but was raised in France and played in Federale 1 for a while(at Romans) and was at Montpellier academy for a bit. The Cudmore's convinced him to try his luck in Canada when his Federale 1 contract expired. He could be decent for depth at Hooker(though Barkwill has been like a fine wine with age, he is already 32 and will probably be done after the next RWC cycle.)

I'd swap Dolezel for Govorchin (they misspelled it.)

He's a ridiculous athlete and I am pleased to see him making this far.
He is the epitome of a beast and his only knock was picking the game up late. Clearly if he's on canada then that's not a problem anymore.
Micha was a tackle/d end in football, power forward in basketball and something or other in lacrosse.
I'm excited and wish I was there to shout abuse at him.

Bad news for Canadian Fans, as Van De Merwe is out until August and Mackenzie also looks very doubtful for even the Ireland and Japan games and may also not return till the RWCQ's. As a consolation Sinclair and a now healthy Pritchard have linked up with the side.

Edit: Evans and Hassler were also out with injuries last week, Evans is expected to be in the lineup possibly on Wednesday, if Hassler can get healthy that could be a possible centre pairing. Still Canada's chances of a scalp against Ireland seriously lowered without our two best backs.
