Champions Cup 24/25 - Semi Finals - 3 & 4 May

So the biggest loser today was Jac Morgan really. JVDF was our vest player and Pollock bettered him. No way both don't tour.
Yeah … I've been hesitant to join the Pollock hype train but to be as influential as he was in a game of that magnitude is very, very impressive.

The Lions' have a tradition of taking a bolter, but there's argument to say he's among the top performing back rows in Europe this season.

I've gone from dismissing talk of a Lions call-up as ridiculous to now thinking he's got an excellent chance of touring and possibly even featuring in the tests

Sooooo….

Do I do a weekend in Cardiff and sack off slam dunk? Or watch the games on tv and go to slam dunk.

@TRF_Olyy thoughts? As I feel you can help
Tough one,
Cardiff is a great city to get on the lash though, especially when the rugby's in town - Champions cup final, pretty much every neutral there will be a Saints fan....I'd be leaning that way

Pollock is a brilliant young lad and let’s embrace that….but the backrow has the hardest competition of all positions in my opinion.

Just looking at 7 options:

Earl, undersmash, Curry 1, curry 2, VDF, Darge and Morgan.

He could get in as he offers something different but that’s a hard competition list.

I’m gutted I can’t go to the final as I’m in Italy at the time. Gutted.

Oh noooo I'm going to be in Italy 😅

It’s mad that saints season would have until now seemed to be pretty poor when compared to last seasons largely understandable due to the personnel who left at the end of the season and now if they were to win it would actually top last in terms of silverware and achievement.

I really rate Morgan, but he’ll only make it if Farrell wants a token Welsh forward.

It’s not a straight choice between the two, but Pollock has put in a series of excellent performances in a competition regarded as the closest thing to test rugby whereas Morgan’s been scrapping it out in he lower reaches of domestic (ish) competition. I can’t see how he competes?

I'd pick Morgan for the club matches at least, he was a rare ray of light for (much of) Wales' 6ns and it would be extremely weird to have the 'mostly Irish some English and a few Scottish Lions'

I’d argue that Jac is in better form than VDF at the moment, certainly more present in the 6N. And trust me, I am not biased on this one, I’ll only riot if Tomos Williams isn’t at least on the plane.

Back to Leinster, I know we knock them for it in the URC (which is largely unfounded as they usually top the league), but is it about how they manage players too? Northampton are almost a week in week out battle hardened team, been in the trenches in the tough games in games with b ‘lesser’ teams or teams with a largely varied game etc. This version of Leinster basically rock up for Europe only and maybe some big derby games from what I’ve seen. I saw a difference in passion, organisation, sharpness both mental and in their systems for Northampton. Just viewing from the outside, as that Leinster team should be winning pretty much everything most years and they aren’t doing it at the business end.

I guess it depends on how big the squad is. That back row is wildly competitive and choosing any Welsh players in close calls for primarily sentimental reasons doesn’t sit well with me.

Is Morgan in the top 5 flankers right now? IMO, no.

Did Saints winning prive that the biggest thing stopping prem clubs doing well in Europe is the prioritising of the Prem?

Like Saints have prob used the entire build up to focus on this one game, rotated players etc

I wouldn't discount it but at the same time Leinster were not great. They had three yellow cards in their advantage and looked complacent from the start (kind of understandable in a way after nilling their last two opponents). It seemed like Northampton turning up to play was a surprise to them

I’m not sure that’s full blown proof but certainly likely to play a part, not having to compete on two fronts, peaking at the right time and only being able to focus on a single game/competition at once are all probably contributing factors, they haven’t really won anything yet though, need to back it up in the final, just hope it’s not like England in 2019 blowing their load in the semi.
