Cornish Pirates boss Chris Stirling will 'take a sabbatical' for a year from the end of the current season.

This also comes with the news that the Pirates would not be promoted if they were to win the Championship this season... The RFU have turned down the offer from Plymouth Argyle to share Home Park...

But they are not really serious contenders for promotion, especially after the defeat at Bristol. They are now lying 5th in the league with plenty of other good sides above them.

Pirates are still contenders for the promotion, lying in 5th is nothing in the Championship, Bristol could lose a couple and so could some of the other clubs in the top 4... also it all depends on the Play Off Final... People thought Leeds and Bristol would walk the Championship, but the Championship is more competitive than ever...

League postition doesn't really matter a massive amount, considering the huge playoff system in place
Obviously finishing higher does put you in better stead, but you could finish way down the table and still win the whole thing

Ridiculous decision, they should have said yes: until your new stadium is finished.
Not as if there aren't other teams ground sharing with football teams (London Irish/Reading, Wasps/Wycombe Wanderers, Saracens/Watford - kind of Sale, but EP was a rugby ground before football, and Sale technically bought the ground from Stockport)

Yes, of course, I'd forgotten about the big play-off bonanza. Although Exeter surprised a lot of people by beating Bristol in the final they did so from a position that was almost certainly stronger than CP's is today. But I suppose anything can happen. What the RFU appears to be saying (from the CP website link) is that they can't use Home Park whilst their new stadium is still only a proposal. But that does seem to be at odds with the examples you quote where the ground share arrangements seem to be "permanent". And Plymouth Argyle could sure use some extra income.
