Customise resolution for Rugby 08 (PC)!

Howdy, I don't know how many of you got a widescreen monitor at home but I do and I've been running my past rugby games on 1920x1200 thanks to the EA Sports Rugby 2005 Resolution Changer. Unfortunately it doesn't work on the latest Rugby 08 and it's annoying playing on 1600x1200 on the 24" screen so I found a way to change the resolution. For this example, I've set my current profile to 1600x1200.

1. You'll need a hex editor, such as this one. http://www.chmaas.handshake.de/delphi/free...xvi32/xvi32.htm

2. Backup your profile under EA SPORTSâ"¢ Rugby 08 folder located in your My documents folder.

3. Use the hex editor to open up a profile you would like to edit and you will see a table full of hex numbers

4. Use the search function to find the follow hex pattern 40 06 B0 04 (1600x1200). The first two bytes are your horizontal resolution and the second two bytes are your vertical resolution. Change it to your desired resolution (please make sure you don't change anything else or it might stuff your profile up!) for example,

1920x1200 would be this:
80 07 B0 04
1680x1050 would be this:
90 06 1A 04
1440x900 would be this:
A0 05 84 03

5. Save it and run the game with the edited profile and enjoy!
After the change, I found the game is more pleasent to look at and @ 1920x1200, it's very playable with my AMD 2600XP, 9800pro setup so I don't need to upgrade my computer for another year! (I don't play any other games apart from Rugby)

I hope it'll work on your PC as well. have fun. :)

Hi, how do you calculate the hexadecimal values? I want to try my native resolution and it's not one of your examples.

Coming from xbox last year to pc for '08 it looks surprisingly good at high res :) [/b]

Yeah I've always like it on PC with all that details it's more enjoyable!

I'm not an expert when it comes to hexadecimal values. I think bytes are stored in reverse order. For example, 1920 in hex = 07 80, which is stored as 80 07. Only reverse the order of BYTES, not the entire number.

To save you some time, in HEX:
2560 = 0A00 stored as 00 0A

1600 = 0640 stored as 40 06

1920 = 0780 stored as 80 07

1200 = 04B0 stored as B0 04

1680 = 0690 stored as 90 06

1050 = 041A stored as 1A 04

1280 = 0500 stored as 00 05

900 = 0384 stored as 86 03

(Or just use the windows caculator in scienfic mode and flip between DEC & HEX view to convert)

Hope it helps. ;)

Hmm. Doesn't work for me, it doesn't find any of those codes, not 40 06 B0 04 for 1600x1200, or 20 03 58 02 which would be for 800x600 for example and not with any other number. It seems my profile doesnt have any resolution information, or it saves it somehow diferent.

Could someone of those for whom it worked upload a profile with the resolutions already included?

I installed the game on two different PCs, tried 5 or 6 different hexeditors, created a dozen of profiles, but the result is the same there is absolutely no resolution information in those profiles! :%#%#:

this is the string fro my profile, there aren't any numbers to be found that you use. :wall:

Could someone please upload a profile where it worked or just post the string of it?
