Blues winger David Smith has signed a two-year contract with Wellington for the 2009 and 2010 seasons and will play for the Hurricanes next year in the Super 14.

Smith will re-join his former province after this year's Air NZ Cup.

Smith, 22, was a draft player in the Hurricanes Super 14 squad last year where he made 12 appearances and scored one try.

"David very much enjoyed his time here in Wellington last year and we are delighted that he has decided to join us," Wellington Rugby chief executive Greg Peters told NZPA.

"He is one of the most exciting players in New Zealand rugby and will be a huge asset to both Wellington and the Hurricanes."

Ironically Smith's current team the Blues meet the Hurricanes on Friday in a crucial Super 14 match in Auckland and the result of the match will have a large bearing on who plays who in the semi-finals.[/b]

David Smith is a future All Black wing. I remember him playing for the Hurricanes, I think, and he is definately a live-wire. He has pace to burn and great acceleration off the mark. New Zealand selectors please do not let his size stop him getting an All Black cap. He could become a great player, perhaps another Eric Rush.

Yeah he's awesome we need a bit of firepower out wide because we've really only got 1 specialist winger Hosea Gear. But if David Smith slots into the other wing it could be quite explosive.

Definately a future All Black he has power, pace and is very elusive and his defense is pretty good too.

David Nucifora's parting gift - not satisfied with sending the best lock in the world to the Crusaders, he's now managed to isolate the potential next great All Black wing enough to sign for Wellington.

David Smith in for the Hurricanes, that's awesome. Adding to that, he proved to the 'Canes and the fans last Friday night that we really want him back. I agree with jawmalawm24. We do need a good winger, he will definately be a good combination with Smith and Nonu in the midfield.

Oh and let's not forget about Victor Vito. He too will be joining the Hurricanes, no doubt. But 1 big problem is will he be getting game time? Vito plays flanker. Again and again Wellington is producing more loose fowards. So the three bouncers (Collins, So'oialo and Masoe) will limit Vito's game time just like what is happening to Waldrom. Or perhaps Vito could be in the backs, like what some people believe that he could become "the next Jonah Lomu". I don't think he's that fast but he could try out the midfield, maybe centre.

Apart from A-Town being his hometown I couldnt understand why he went back up. He got more game time in Wellington, I hope his stay is permanent. I'm praying that a hot girl from Welly will put him on lock down haha.
