Difference in Goal width between RU and RL

RU goal width -- 5.6m
RL goal width -- 5.5m

Could anyone explain this great 10cm difference? Is there any problem about having same size goals for 2 codes?

Its conversion error converting feet and inches into metres

At one time all the dimensions for BOTH codes were defined in yards, feet and inches. The goal width was 6 yards 6 inches (or 18 feet 6 inches).

If you convert this using the rough formula 1m = 40 inches, then it comes out to 5.55m (rounded down to 5.5m)

If you convert using the more accurate formula of 1m = 39.37 inches, then it comes to 5.64m (rounded down to 5.6m)
